Dot & Key Melt Away Makeup Remover Balm Review

Product Description
Dot & Key Melt Away Makeup Remover Balm is a moisturizing makeup remover balm infused with nourishing natural oils such as almond and coconut that removes makeup and deep cleanses the skin without drying it. The melt-away balm makes the cleansing routine easier.

Apart from clarifying the skin, lime essential oil also balances the skin's oil production. With almond oil, this cleansing balm improves the skin tone and treats dryness. The addition of macadamia nut oil nourishes and moisturizes the skin, while coconut oil has antibacterial properties that protect the skin from toxins.

Benefits :
• Removes stubborn makeup with ease
• Deep cleanses the skin without drying
• Nourishes and moisturizes the skin
• Made with natural oils and is free from harmful chemicals

Dot & Key is an Indian skincare brand with a nature-forward approach to formulation that ensures  ingredients and actives are in their most natural skin-friendly usable form. Looking at their range of products from skin to hair products, you would notice they are housed in cute packaging with a bright pop of colour, that may vaguely reminds one of Korean skincare brand Frudia.

I purchased Dot & Key Melt Away Makeup Remover Balm with several other products from Aardae when it was having a sale. This was my first haul from the online store where the products were made in India.

However, unfortunately, most of the products I purchased were expiring this year and the prices for those products dropped even more at time of writing, so go check them out if you are keen. It would be more ethical if they could have indicate the expiry dates on the listing pages but oh well...

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Dot & Key Remover Balm Review

Dot & Key Melt Away Makeup Remover Balm comes in a 50ml glass jar with an inner lid as shown above. A small white plastic spatula is enclosed in the packaging for easy access to the cute pot of balm goodness. It has a subtle Neroli and Lime scent mixed with fragrance.

The balm is blue in colour with a buttery soft consistency and a hint of oiliness.

How To Use :
1) Scoop out a sufficient amount of the makeup cleansing balm using spatula
2) Massage in the makeup remover balm till all the makeup melts, and steam it off with a warm face cloth while breathing deeply
3) Use a hot towel to clean excess oiliness off the skin afterwards
4) Rinse eyes with water

Performance and Ingredients

Are you a fan of cleansing balms? Cleansing balm helps to remove makeup, dirt, and impurities from the skin. It is typically formulated with nourishing ingredients like oils and antioxidants that hydrate and protect the skin. Some of my favourite cleansing balms are Banila Co. Clean It Zero Cleansing BalmKat Burki Vitamin C Nourishing Cleansing BalmThree Aiming Cleansing Balm and Heimish All Clean Balm

Dot & Key Melt Away Makeup Remover Balm works differently than most cleansing balms, it is more similar to Kat Burki Vitamin C Nourishing Cleansing Balm where you need a hot/warm/damp cloth as the balm is extremely oily, however, unlike Kat Burki, this requires a warm face cloth to "clean" the face after application.

Formulated without Parabens (methyl, propyl), Sulphates (SLS, SLES), Alcohol (Ethanol), PABA, Phthalates, Triclosan, Formaldehyde, heavy metals and synthetic dyes, Melt Away Makeup Remover Balm wasn't love at first use as I initially thought it works like the usual cleansing balm where I can just rinse off with water, however, due to the number of oils contained in the product, it wasn't meant to be so.

Dot & Key Melt Away Texture Shot

This remover balm is soft and pudding-like and once massaged on the face, it becomes pretty oily, so much so that my palms are oily as well with a layer of film left over on the face after cleansing and when the oils got into the eyes, it can get pretty irritating.

Thereafter I learnt that my method was wrong as a hot towel should be used to "cleanse" off Dot & Key Melt Away Makeup Remover Balm after massaging. It worked pretty well on sunscreen and minimal makeup, but not so, on eyeliner and mascara as it took me several tries before I removed them cleanly. Once everything is off the face, my skin is left feeling so soft and smooth. It also provides some deep cleansing on the sides of my nose, where I "clean" up the sebum with my cotton bud.

That said, I tend to forget to bring my cleansing towel into the bathroom so Dot & Key Melt Away Makeup Remover Balm isn't a good fit for my skincare routine for now.

The key ingredients are...

Almond Oil : Rich in Vitamin E to keep skin soft, smooth and healthy.

Coconut Oil : The oil breaks down waxy, inky, long stay makeup, and leaves delicate skin hydrated.

Jojoba Oil : Contains anti-inflammatory properties to help tame skin chafing and chapping, reduce redness caused by drying, and keep skin calm and comfortable. Rich in vitamin E, it helps in skin repair.

Macadamia Nut Oil : Rich in skin nourishing fatty acids to restore the skin's barrier function and reduce water loss.

Argan Kernel Oil : Containing omega fatty acids, vitamin E and linoleic acids to  nourishes and hydrates skin deeply. It is lightweight and non comedogenic, and leaves skin with a subtle sheen.

Citrus Aurantium Amara Flower (Neroli) oil & Lime Oil : Enriched with neroli and lime essential oils which leave behind a fresh, energizing fragrance on skin.

Capric Caprylic Triglyceride, Almond Oil, Coconut Oil, Ceteareth 25, White Bees Wax, Ceresine Wax, Jojoba Ester, Macademia Oil, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Lauryl Laurate, Fragrance, Tocopheryl Acetate, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Citus Aurantiun Amara Flower (Neroli) Oil and Lime Oil.

Conclusion

Dot & Key Melt Away Makeup Remover Balm

To conclude, Dot & Key Melt Away Makeup Remover Balm left skin clean, soft and smooth after cleansing with a hot towel, to get rid of the oiliness left behind. It is not a repurchase for me as I tend to forget to bring my hot towel to the bathroom so the usage doesn't fit my routine for now.

After this oily experience, I need to get off cleansing balms/oils for several months and will be using a micellar water next. Look forward to one from Origins in a few months' time.
