Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment Review

Product Description
Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment deeply exfoliates the dull surface of the skin for instant glow and radiance. As dull, dead surface cells are removed, clarity and smoothness is restored. Visibly brightens the appearance of dark spots and discolorations. Instantly plumps the look of fine lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes.

I redeemed a 5ml sample size of Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment with my Sephora points last year. After hearing so much raves about their products, I was looking forward to trying this even though some of the glowing reviews may be fake ( read more below ). This came in just in time, as I just depleted IDS Facial Scrub recently.

Made in USA, Sunday Riley combines active scientific ingredients with efficacious plant-based botanicals where each carefully researched product is said to deliver immediate results and long-term payoff thanks to its high-tech formulations.

Back in 2019, Sunday Riley was accused of posting fake reviews of their products on Sephora's website for two years after a Reddit user leaked an email that showed employees being asked by the company to create fake Sephora accounts and post "glowing" reviews of products.

Definitely not very ethical but at the same time, it also made me more intrigued to try out their products.

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment comes in a pump dispenser with its full retail size, however, for my 5ml travel size, it is in a tube form which is understandable.

Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment texture

There was a subtle citrus scent which was hardly discernable and the white creamy texture was lightweight with a smooth consistency.

How To Use :

FOR ALL SKIN TYPES:
Apply 1-2 pumps to clean, dry skin, day or night, as a leave on treatment.

FOR SENSITIVE SKIN:
Use as a mask. Apply 1-2 pumps to clean, dry skin and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse well and pat dry.

Good Genes can be applied on top of Luna Sleeping Night Oil, and before your moisturizer. Oily or combination skin may not even need to moisturize!

Performance and Ingredients

Cruelty-Free, Sulfate-Free, Paraben-Free, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free, Phthalate-Free, Fragrance-Free and Vegan, Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment is said to rapidly exfoliate and boost naturally youthful radiance, while visibly reducing the look of lines, wrinkles and dark spots.

High potency, purified grade lactic acid exfoliates dull, pore-clogging dead skin cells, to instantly clarify and reveal smoother, clearer skin. Together with skin brightening licorice, this super-concentrated treatment visually reduces the look of dark spots and discoloration caused by exposure to the sun, for naturally brighter, even-toned skin.

Initially, I was pretty worried about how it may perform on my sensitive skin so I started off with using it as a mask where I cleanse it off after 15 minutes. Thereafter, after observing no reactions to the product, I use it as a leave on treatment twice/thrice a week.

The lactic acid treatment has such an unbelievable lightweight texture and was really gentle to the skin. However, to be honest, I couldn't see any difference on face, except that my skin felt smoother to the touch. I believe 5ml may be too small a quantity to see any noticeable difference. That said, it did help to minimize the large skin tag I have on my forehead.

Do note that its best to use the product in the evening but if you use it in the day, do remember to wear sunscreen as AHAs may cause your skin to be more sun-sensitive. And also avoid mixing lactic acid with other acids, exfoliants and retinol to prevent any potential skin irritation. If you have sensitive skin, please do a patch test.

The key ingredients are....

PURIFIED LACTIC ACID : One of the most hydrating Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), Lactic Acid exfoliates the surface layers of the skin, revealing a more clarified, fresher, smoother, younger-looking complexion. Helps fight a build-up of dead skin cells and excess sebum, which can lead to skin bumps, dullness, skin congestion, blackheads, and eventually, acne. Helps diminish the look of discolorations and dark spots.

LICORICE : Naturally brightening properties, licorice helps improve skin radiance.

LEMONGRASS : Astringent and skin refreshing for a toned complexion.

ARNICA : Soothes the skin, reducing the feeling of skin discomfort.

PRICKLY PEAR EXTRACT : Rare desert cactus extract that instantly soothes skin.

BOTANICAL BLEND [WATER/EAU/AQUA, OPUNTIA TUNA FRUIT EXTRACT, ARNICA MONTANA FLOWER EXTRACT, ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF EXTRACT, CYPRIPEDIUM PUBESCENS EXTRACT, OPUNTIA VULGARIS LEAF EXTRACT, AGAVE TEQUILANA LEAF EXTRACT, SACCHAROMYCES CEREVISIAE (YEAST) EXTRACT, LEUCONOSTOC/RADISH ROOT FERMENT FILTRATE], CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, SQUALANE, LACTIC ACID, PPG-12/SMDI COPOLYMER, PROPANEDIOL, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, STEARIC ACID, DIMETHICONE, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, PHENYL TRIMETHICONE, DISILOXANE, CETEARETH-20, GLYCERYL STEARATE, PEG-100 STEARATE, STEARYL GLYCYRRHETINATE, GLYCYRRHIZA GLABRA ROOT EXTRACT, CYMBOPOGON SCHOENANTHUS (LEMONGRASS) OIL, POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE, PHENOXYETHANOL, XANTHAN GUM, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, CHLORPHENESIN, SODIUM PHYTATE

Conclusion

To conclude, Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment is a gentle product which provided me with smooth skin, however, for the sample size which lasted over a week, I have yet to experience any spectacular difference. Its non-drying and did not cause any irritation to my skin so thats definitely a bonus point.

Hopefully, with the large size, one can see improvement for small, rough and bumpy skin texture as well as general unevenness of tone and texture.

If you are looking for a dupe with a lower price point, you can consider The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2%.
