Review : Derma Sukin Daily Hydrating Wash

I first came across Derma Sukin while checking out Sukin products in Chemist Warehouse Australia. DermaSukin is said to be laboratory tested and dermatologist certified as non-irritating and non-sensitizing on the skin, ensuring they are suitable and safe for use on dry, itchy and problem skin. They are fragrance free, and very different in consistency to the Sukin products as they are targeted towards problematic and condition-prone skin.

I was intrigued and promptly paid for a 500ml bottle of Derma Sukin Daily Hydrating Wash. Anything that is meant for sensitive skin is a winner for me. While I don't have very sensitive skin, but products that are gentle and soothing tend to attract me.

Presented in a pump bottle for easy use, this soap free wash uses ingredients calendula and aloe vera to deeply hydrate the skin and lock in moisture, ensuring that you're left feeling cleansed, soft and supple.

However, unfortunately, Derma Sukin Daily Hydrating Wash was a let-down. Despite it being touted as a body wash designed specifically for sensitive, dry skin type, it was slightly drying for my skin, since the first usage.

I used it twice a day, morning and night and every usage does left my skin feeling alittle taut. Its not very drying but you do feel that little drying sensation, the moment, you lather the body wash on your body. The foams are moderate and works fine for me, however, it is just not hydrating enough.

I wouldn't recommend it for very dry and sensitive skin but if you have normal skin, go ahead and try it as its pretty affordable and comes with a pump dispenser that is convenient in the bathroom.

Review : Sukin Organics Renewing Body Scrub (Green Tea + Jojoba)

During my last trip to Sydney last year, I have purchased 2 Sukin body scrub products and one of them is this Sukin Renewing Body Scrub with Green Tea and Jojoba. The price difference between Singapore and Australia for the scrub isn't too much and goes down even further when there's discount in Guardian. At that point of purchase, I didn't realize that this scrub was available on our local shores. Ha!

Review : Sukin Energising Body Scrub With Coffee & Coconut

I picked up the Sukin Energising Body Scrub With Coffee and Coconut from Melbourne at AUD12.95 last year. Unlike most scrubs which are abrasive and harsh on skin, this sukin body scrub is creamy and gentle, perfect for sensitive skin.

The coconut and coffee scent is subtle and does not leave a lingering smell on skin. And because of its creamy texture, the scrub does not make a mess on the bathroom floor, commonly found in dry body scrub.

It exfoliates gently without any after-drying or oily-greasy feel. And while I wouldn't peg it as the smoothest skin after each exfoliation, I do foresee that it would be handy during drying and sensitive skin days.

Sukin Purifying Shampoo and Nourishing Conditioner

Suitable for everyday use and normal hair.

I bought the set of the shampoo and conditioner for $15 each in our local Watsons store. Nicely fragranced with rosehip scent, the light yellow contents are fluid enough to lather on the hair which provides light suds. However on my thick hair, it feels slightly dry-out with a straw-like feeling during the washing process. The end result is moderately fine. Clean but not overly dry.

The conditioner, with its white soft creamy texture and the similar lovely fragrance left my hair soft and smooth but it did not detangle my hair. My dry hair ends has kinks that took some effort to brush it out.

Both products are SLS and paraben-free and does not contain artificial fragrances, animal derivatives, harsh detergents,  petro-chemicals, artificial colours, triethanolamine and  mineral oils.

The shampoo scored 3 from 10 users on Makeupalley while the conditioner scored 3.2 from 9 users.

Review : Sukin Organics Purifying Body Scrub

Product Description

With micro particles of bamboo extract and ground walnut shells to purify combined with aloe vera, chamomile, rose hip, jojoba and sesame to hydrate skin.

This full body scrub gently polishes and refines skin texture leaving clean, radiant skin. Enriched with aloe vera and chamomile to soothe skin and rosehip, jojoba and sesame to replenish and revitalize.

This creamy but runny scrub reminds me vaguely of Coast To Coast Rainforest Invigorating Body Exfoliant with its light brown colour and texture with its exfoliating particles. Housed in a tube, the contents ooze out easily making a slight mess on the gap with its contents.

It smells nice and is hardly abrasive to my skin. It left my skin moderately smooth but not the soft supple skin which I was expecting.

Sukin's products are free of Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS), Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLES), synthetic fragrances, animal derivatives, harsh detergents, propylene glycol, artificial colours, triethanolamine, mineral oils, EDTA and parabens.

I picked it up from our the local Watsons at about $11.90, if I remembered correctly. Sometimes there may be a 20% discount going on too, though not very frequently on this body wash.

Packaged in a 250ml pump dispenser bottle, the gel-like texture glides on well on the body, with a lovely rosehip scent. It left the skin feeling clean and well-pampered, without any drying or greasy after-feel.

The bottle is dark in colour, supposingly to protect the ingredients from external light to maintain the effectiveness of the product.

I like it, for being affordable and not containing bad ingredients though some may disapprove of the preservative "Phenoxyethanol" in its list.

It scored 4.4 from 8 users on Makeupalley.

Review : Sukin Organics Hydrating Mist Toner

Product Description
This alcohol-free, skin hydrating mist combines German chamomile and rosewater to help soothe, tone and cool tired skin

I used to be quite a big fan of facial mists and this was one of those products that I have been wanting to try out. Hydration! Check! Mist! Check! Natural! Check! Into my basket, it goes.

It was my first product from the brand and being a fan of hydrating products, it was on my to-buy list.
I have to say that, it does disappoint me greatly when I first used it and I neglected it for a while and went back to using it only recently. I just need to finish it up within the 6 months "once-opened" period.

Key Ingredients :
German chamomile : soothe and calm the skin with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties
Rosewater : tone and balance the skin with its light and low astringent properties

The product is housed in a brown opaque bottle which is good to protect light sensitive ingredients. The spray mist is abit fine so I tend to spray more. It has a light rose scent which is lovely in a subtle way.

I used it when my skin was dehydrated but it failed to revive the hydration level on my skin. I sprayed it on cotton pads and used it as a toner but it stings my skin. I used it when my skin was irritated and red but it failed to soothe the skin. I hated it then and churn it aside for a while.

Now, I am back to using it again, but used it like a refreshing toner and I don't expect any spectacular results. Its just not for me.
I would just spray it on the face and dab it gently with a tissue paper or I just follow up with a serum after my skin is slightly damp from the mist.
