The Body Shop Winter Jasmine Shower Gel Review

Product Description
Smell seriously festive this Christmas with our special edition Winter Jasmine Shower Gel. Squirt a dollop of our body cleanser into your palm, lather up and slather all over. Take in that refreshingly crisp and floral winter scent – your shower routine just became oh-so-Christmassy. Made with jasmine extract from India, it cleanses skin, leaving it beautifully fragrant and refreshed. This floral treat is the perfect little Christmas gift or stocking filler.

Founder Dame Anita Roddick started The Body Shop in England in 1976, using ethically sourced and naturally-based ingredients from around the world, in no-nonsense packaging you could easily refill. Their products were never tested on animals and didn’t exploit anyone in making them. They worked fairly with farmers and suppliers, and helped communities thrive through our Community Fair Trade programme. You can read more about the history on their website

The Body Shop collections have always been one of my go-to for Christmas gifts for friends for several years as they were packed in pretty boxes and were presentable as gifts. However, along the way, with more brands sprouting up, I haven't been visiting The Body Shop for quite a long while but their round cotton pads would always be a constant in my skincare routine.

The Body Shop Winter Jasmine Shower Gel was a Christmas gift from a good friend and its always nice to receive Christmas editions which are limited designs.

Packaging, Scent and Texture

The Body Shop Winter Jasmine Shower Gel comes in a pretty Christmas design with 250ml size contents in a clear plastic bottle with a flick top cap.

With notes of orange flower, fresh jasmine and rose petals, it certainly smells like jasmine tea which is so sweet and relaxing. The shower gel is clear in colour and lathers well.

How To Use :
1. Lather up into a thick foam.
2. Slather all over damp skin.
3. Rinse.
4. Feel seriously refreshed.

Performance and Ingredients

Lilac green in colour, the shower gel with its refreshing and sweet scent lathers well with light suds to cleanse head-to-toe. Unfortunately, after about 50% used up, the shower gel started to get drying for my skin.

In terms of ingredients, The Body Shop Winter Jasmine Shower Gel contains Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES ) as the second ingredient in the list.

According to David Suzuki, SLES may be contaminated with measurable amounts of ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane. The International Agency for Research on Cancer regards ethylene oxide as a known human carcinogen and 1,4-dioxane as a possible human carcinogen. Ethylene oxide can also harm the nervous system and the California Environmental Protection Agency has classified it as a possible developmental toxicant based on evidence that it may interfere with human development.

As for 1,4-dioxane, it doesn’t easily degrade and can remain in the environment long after it is rinsed down the shower drain. 1,4-dioxane can be removed from cosmetics during the manufacturing process by vacuum stripping, but there is no easy way for consumers to know whether products containing sodium laureth sulfate have undergone this process.

The industry panel that reviews the safety of cosmetics ingredients notes that sodium laureth sulfate can irritate the skin and eyes (though approving of its use in cosmetics).

Aqua/Water/Eau, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Glycerin, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Chloride, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Parfum/Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Sodium Benzoate, Citric Acid, PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, Benzyl Salicylate, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Benzyl Alcohol, Linalool, Benzophenone-3, Nyctanthes Arbor-Tristis Flower Extract, Benzoic Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Polysorbate 20, Sodium Hydroxide, CI 15985/Yellow 6, CI 42090/Blue 1

Conclusion

To conclude, The Body Shop Winter Jasmine Shower Gel is a decent shower gel if you do not have sensitive/dry skin or allergic to SLES.
