Tomato Pulp
Ah, the good old tomato. Tomatoes are said to be extremely effective when it comes to shrinking large pores. The pulp can also fade those pesky pimple scars and clear your skin of blackheads and impurities. To create your homemade detoxifying solution, apply fresh tomato juice to a clean face and leave it on for around 15 minutes before rinsing.
Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe vera gel is a great hydrator and has been widely used for its anti-inflammatory properties. Don’t just use it on sunburns though! The gel apparently does wonders when it comes to fading marks on your face. Fresh gel, straight from the plant, is especially great for your skin, so keep a live plant in your kitchen to reap its benefits!
Raw Potato
Potatoes have long been used to treat skin discolouration, making it the perfect solution to fading out those unsightly scar marks. Use them raw - you can either grate one and apply the juice to your scars, or cut a slice and rub it on the affected are. The bleaching properties of the juice will help to lighten dark marks.
Cucumber
Cooling cucumber makes for a fantastic treat for inflamed skin. Just one fresh slice is all you need to give your skin the soothing it needs. Just like with the dark circles around your eyes, frequent use of cucumber can lessen the visibility of acne and acne scars. Just gently rub a cucumber slice against your skin to coat it in the juice, then rinse off after 20 or 30 minutes.
Baking Soda
Baking soda has a myriad of uses, from whitening your teeth to removing stains on your clothing. Baking soda also acts as an exfoliant, and can be used as a natural homemade scrub to slough away dead skin cells and help with the renewal of more radiant skin. Just mix a teaspoon of baking soda to some water to create a liquid paste, which you can then use to rub against your skin in gentle circular movements before rinsing off.
Almond Paste
You can soak a few almonds (about three or four) in some milk overnight, peel off the skin the next day and mash the almonds to form a paste. Rub this paste onto acne scars and leave on for 30 minutes before washing it off your face. Nutrient-dense almonds help to fade blemishes and pigmentation. Follow this remedy three times a week.
Honey
Honey acts as an antibacterial potion that contains plenty of nutrients that your skin could benefit from. Honey also makes a fantastic anti-inflammation moisturiser for your skin, which can help to reduce the duration of acne and stave off the formation of scars. You can use honey straight from the jar - just apply it straight to your face using a slightly wet finger, leave it on for 10 minutes, and rinse off.
Tea Tree Oil
This miracle oil has been used to treat everything from itchy mosquito bites to rashes. No surprises that it can be used for acne and acne scars too! Most beneficial for raised acne scars, the anti-inflammatory effects of the oil can definitely help to diminish their appearance and calm the skin down. Just remember to dilute the oil before using it topically. 2 drops of oil to every tablespoon of water should be sufficient.
Apple Cider Vinegar
As an astringent and natural disinfectant, apple cider vinegar can definitely keep those pesky pimples away. But it can also act as a good solution to removing dead skin cells and keeping the pores clear, which can in turn fade away acne scars pretty effectively. Dilute apple cider vinegar in equal parts water and apply the solution on affected areas. Leave for 5 to 10 minutes before washing off with water. Do this once a day.
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice has natural bleaching properties. While it isn’t advised to be used as a long-term solution (as lemon juice can be very potent), and you certainly shouldn’t go outside with lemon juice on your face as the natural alpha hydroxy acid in the juice could react badly with sunlight, it can be effective as a diluted solution when added to your skin for a short amount of time. Squeeze a few drops of lemon juice into a cup and dilute with a little water, dab the solution onto your scars and leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing off thoroughly.
