when they say "natural", what does it means actually for skincare? thanks, Agnes

Hi Audrey,
Basically, natural and organic beauty items are touted to be free of toxins.
Some people believe that conventional products (non-natural)contain phthalates, propylene glycol, parabens, and other chemicals that can increase cancer risk, lead to organ system damage, cause reproductive harm and other health hazards.
However, there have been studies that claimed that for such risks to happen, the product will require high amount of the "bad" ingredients in it, to be able to cause harm to humans.
Thanks for reading.

oh, thanks so much for your lessons. i think organic beauty also can contains bad oil that will cause acne or skin irritation . i think mineral oil is good for sensitive skin though. i always wanted to try kate pressed powder (available in watson, separate topic suddenly haha) but it contains petroleum and this term immediately spells alert but according to beautypedia, petroleum means emollients and is safe for skin..so ya, like u said, depends on the concentration and intensity of the ingredients.

Hi Audrey,
Where petroleum ingredients are concerned, there are studies by the non-profit Environmental Working Group that say that it does cause cancer (cancer-causing chemical 1,4-dioxane).
However, its also been argued by others that petroleum used in cosmetic skincare products is not the same as industrial petroleum chemicals.
