Alright, this is yet another mask from my Korea stash. Bought 2 sheets to try it out.
As with all Skin Food sheet masks, it comes heavily fragranced. Some may like it, some don't.
And since its all in Korean language, the ingredients are not listed on the back.
The fibres on the sheet mask seem to tear easily as it got into my spectacles during my treatment which is rather surprising. There was a slight stinging effect for the initial 5 minutes but it soon disappeared, leaving the essence to sink into my skin.
Its recommended to be removed after 15minutes but I usually had it for 30minutes or so. Once removed, I do see a slight dewy glow. Skin feels abit sticky though.
Retailing for $8 in Skin Food stores.

Review : Etude House Moistfull Mask Sheet
Monday, July 26, 2010
Product Description
Essence formulated mask sheet supplies rich collagen and moisture to facial complexion
Alright, I admit that I have been hemming over this mask for the longest time but never really got round to buying it locally till I was in Korea and I just grabbed 2 boxes of these.
Moistfull range under Etude House contains mainly collagen and I only got this mask under its range.
Snobbish as I may sound, I believe in spending more on skincare products but I am fine with using cheaper sheet masks. I baulk at spending on expensive sheet masks where I threw away after 1 use. You may not agree with me of course, but its just my own preference.
So back to this mask, it contains 2 important active ingredients. Collagen is self-explanatory but what is Baobab tree extract exactly?
According to this source and this journal , Baobab is the IN thing this year.
"The ingredient, made from the African baobab tree, is packed with riboflavin, niacin, and vitamins C, A, D and E. Because it is relatively new, baobab is not backed by as much clinical research as some other super fruits."
The tree bears fruit once a year and all the main parts of the fruit can be used.
From the pulp to the leaves and to the seeds, there are various usages for it. The seed oil, leaves and bark can serve well in the cosmetic industry to make creams, masks, shampoos, conditioners, lotions and exfoliants
Each mask is individually packed. Once opened, there is a thin mesh layered inbetween the sheet. There is nothing unbearable about the scent although there is a slight tinge of alcohol in it which I do not really like.
Its soaking wet with essence but without the dripping messiness.
The material of the sheet is thin but but smooth. Quite nice, actually.
I usually had it for more than 1/2 an hour and once removed, the remaining essence on the face gets absorbed into the skin easily.
Skin feels soothed, unbelievably soft and brimming with moisture which lasted till the next day.
For its inexpensive price, its a value buy but its alcohol content as its 5th ingredient held me back so I probably would not get it again.
Active Ingredients : Baobab Tree extract (Adansonia Digitata) and Collagen
You can purchase the mask from Amazon

Different Types of Vitamin C used in Skin Care
Friday, July 23, 2010
Vitamin C is a very unstable vitamin and any exposure to heat, light or air will degrade it very quickly. Therefore it’s vital to choose the most stable type of vitamin C possible.
Read more about Vitamin C here and how it can help us here
In a nutshell, Vitamin C can reduce the effects of aging and damage in several ways:
(source), (Cosmeticscop)
•Stimulates collagen
•Stimulates elastin
•Maintains cellular integrity
•Acts as an antioxidant to fights free radicals
•Naturally exfoliates skin
•Prevents redness and inflammation even after sun exposure
•Kills bacteria
•Wound healing and reduce inflammation
•Protect skin cells and skin’s support structure from UV-related damage
•Improve the appearance of sun-damaged skin
•Strengthen skin’s barrier response
•Enhance effectiveness of peels and microdermabrasion
•Lessen hyperpigmentation (at levels of 5% or greater)
•Boost the efficacy of sunscreen actives
Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, (MAP) is a water soluble derivative of vitamin C with a collagen boosting effect. It is able to increase collagen production but is effective in lower concentration. This type of vitamin C is much more stable than the pure vitamin which means it does not degrade as fast. It is so gentle, it can be safely used on sensitive skin. To protect MAP from degrading and oxidizing it is best to store it in a dry place away from sunlight.
L-ascorbic acid is a natural form of vitamin C which must be properly stored as L-ascorbic acid oxidizes very quickly when exposed to sunlight and air and can be very irritating to certain skin types. It is water soluble and easily absorbd by the skin. It is recommended by professionals that if you do not know the correct way of using L-ascorbic acid, it's best to stay away from it. L-ascorbic acid is not suitable for those with rosacea or sensitive skin.
Ascorbyl Palmitate is similar to the MAP type of vitamin C, but does not work quite as quickly or quite as effectively as the former. It is a fat-soluble antioxidant and is at least as effective as vitamin E in protecting the skin from lipid peroxidation (a key type of free radical damage in the skin).
Ascorbyl Palmitate, much like L-ascorbic acid, must be carefully looked after and stored away from sunlight and air, as this form of the vitamin tends to degrade quite quickly. To be able to achieve the effects of collagen boosting with this type of vitamin, you must use it a lot more frequently and in much larger doses than you would have to use with L-ascorbic acid.
Ascorbyl Methyl Silanol is a Vitamin C derivative which is more stable than L-Ascorbic Acid. However, its
not able to be absorbed into the skin easily and would not convert into L-Ascorbic Acid by the skin.
Ester-C is a trademarked name of Vitamin C where it contains Calcium Ascorbate.
Do note the harmful effects of using oxidized Vitamin C as it can increase the formation of free radicals.

Review : Etude House Collagen Eye Patch
Thursday, July 22, 2010
Product Description
These elastic adhesive strips supply collagen moisture and lift the eye area to improve fine lines and eye bags.
Formulated with collagen to revitalize and improve appearance around eyes.
Active Ingredients
Collagen 1%, Vitamin A&E and Green Tea extracts
I bought 5 pcs of this when I was in Korea last year and only get to use them recently as I have too many eye masks in stock. I just could not resist buying when I was over there because its just so affordable. :)
Each pair comes protected in a clamp-shell plastic packaging case, soaked in essence. There is a layer of mesh material inbetween the patches. There is a scent of alcohol mixed with some floral fragrance.
Its pretty wet when I tried to layer it on my undereye area but it did not have the messiness of dripping all over the place. Its just wet and may easily slipped down every now and then, so some adjusting is required.
As with all wet eye masks, it gives a refreshing feel but I do not see any visible improvement on my undereye area even after using 5 masks over 2 weeks.
Just a note : on the packaging, its recommended to use it for 15 to 20minutes and not 10mins as claimed by Komart.

Review : Smashbox Oil-Free Photo Finish Foundation Primer
Product Description
Create a perfect canvas for foundation application with this silky, lightweight blend of vitamins A & E, grape seed extract and green tea. Worn alone or under foundation to increase its longevity, our best-selling Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Oil Free helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and pores for flawless skin with a velvety-smooth finish. In a new square airless pump for freshness to the last drop.
Smashbox makeup artists use this product to create a perfect canvas for foundation application. The silky blend of vitamins and antioxidants smoothes and perfects skin, while the unique formula helps to inhibit the destruction of collagen, and fills in fine lines and pores for a flawless finish.
This product have been receiving rave reviews all over the world though there are some who dislike silicon-heavy primers.
I bought this colourless formula from Sephora Singapore at $75 ( or was it $72? ) while Sephora USA is just selling it at US$36.
A good friend love this to bits and thank me for recommending her this product. She just could not stop gushing how awesome this product it is, to everyone she met.
This silicon-heavy primer glides on easily on the face and dries up quickly, literally disappearing into the skin within seconds. It feels and seems almost weightless and made my skin velvety smooth, silky and soft. My make-up stayed well throughout the whole day.
Pores look smaller and lines seem to be smoother, making the skin a better canvas for a flawless looking finish. The best thing is, its oil-free.
What I really hate about, is the short nozzle in the bottle. It made it difficult to reach the ends and corners in the bottle. I have only used up 50% of the contents and I cannot seem to use the nozzle to push out the contents anymore. Guess what I did? I used a cotton bud to scoop out the contents instead.
Its quite bothersome and wasteful of my cotton buds but there is no better idea which I can see.
It also comes in different colours to correct the different issues on your skin, ie. redness, uneven tones, etc.
However, note that some people may be sensitive to silicion laden products.
Awards :
Winner of Best of Sephora Award for Best Primer, one of Marie Claire's "25 Products That Will Change Your Life", an InStyle Best Beauty Buy.
Ingredients :
Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Isopropylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Butylparaben, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Propylene Glycol, Water, Grape Seed Extract, Kolanut Seed Extract, Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract

Review : True Bio Skin Phyto Balancing Repair Cream
Thursday, July 15, 2010
Product Description
Contains Mimosa, Chamomile, Hawthorn and Passionflower Extracts which help stabilise the metabolism of sensitive skin; control the secretion of the sebaceous glands; and strengthen the self-healing ability of the skin. Reduce incidents of redness in the skin; improves the removal of waste products from the skin tissues; and enhances the supply of nutrients to the skin.
This moisturiser is part of the trial size set ( which I bought at $200+ )as recommended by Susan, the owner of True Bio Skin, after assessing my skin condition.
There is a slight scent, which is not unbearable but its does not fall into the fragranced category, thats for sure.
Slight yellowish in colour, it falls between gel to cream form, more on the latter than the former.
Its quite gentle and gets absorbed into the skin easily without leaving any greasy film.
However, I only use this when my skin is in its optimal condition ( read : no redness, no breakouts, no dehydration ) because it does not hydrate my skin.
I complement it with my hydrating masks at night so that I would have the best of both worlds.
I only have the 5ml size so I cannot really comment if it has indeed improve the sensitivness of my skin as I believe that this can only be observed only after a long usage.
The good news is, I do noticed that my T-zone is slightly less oily during mid-day. Less blotting with a tissue paper is needed.
It would be good, if it can provide some hydration factor to the product though
Ingredients :
Chamomile Extracts, Passionflower Extracts, Hawthorn Extracts, Mimosa Extracts, Grapeseed Oil, Wheat Germ Oil.
It costs $320 for a 30ml size, so I strongly recommend you to try their trial size before committing to the full retail size.

Review : Christian Dior Diorskin Sculpt Lifting Smoothing Concealer
Wednesday, July 14, 2010
Product Description
Conceal imperfections and impart an ultra natural radiance with this new generation concealer. Infused new generation powders work to minimize fine lines while Dior's A-Resist complex improves the overall tone of the skin. This unique coverup recontours the face and imparts a youthful glow.
For some of you who are observant enough, you may noticed that I do mainly skincare products reviews and hardly make-up products reviews.
However, I cannot do without a concealer nowadays.
The younger me, do not really care about concealing all my eye flaws in the past but now, I felt downright ugly without a concealer. Do you feel the same way as me?
This is my first Dior product but its not a perfect one for me. Its difficult to find a good concealer which can conceals my dark circles, minimize the appearance of eyebags and will not sink into fine lines.
Although there are tons of reviews out there, everyone's concerns are different and its only through my own trial and errors, can I finally search for the perfect one, just for me only.
This little concealer lasts for a long while because a little bit goes a long way. And the more you applied, it tends to look unnatural and cakey underneath those fine lines. So apply sparingly with your fingers.
I usually use the wand applicator to dot the contents onto the back of my palms and then use my fingers to spread and blend on my undereye area as I can have better control of the amount used.
This concealer comes in 3 shades Ivory 001, Beige 002 and Honey 003 and mine is the Ivory 001 shade.
Its not as runny as a liquid concealer but denser than that. Slight thicker, I would say.
The product description sounds almost unbelievable as I do not see what it claimed to be.
I have been using this for almost 6 months but I hardly see any lift or any minimizing of fine lines.
Yes, it does help to conceal ( its a concealer, right? ) but not enough for my dark circles.
My undereye area does look better with the concealer than without but its just not enough. And whats that about its claims on minimizing the fine lines? It does not do that, at least on my skin.
And because my undereye area is generally dry, applying the concealer after my eye gel does not improve it but instead made my fine lines more prominent.
It blends easily and is actually quite easy to use.
But I would recommend this for those with light dark circles and no fine lines though I believe there are other concealers which can do a similar job with a lower price tag.
Sad to say, this product is just not for me. Its just a light concealer, as far as I am concerned.

Review : The Body Shop Papaya Bath & Shower Gel
Monday, July 12, 2010
This is yet another one of my TBS shower gel conquest, probably the last one in my stash. I am slowly gearing towards organic/natural body products but I can never resist travel sized products. Small, cute, portable, its just so irresistible.
I brought this along to my Vietnam & Taiwan trips recently and its I simply love the scent. Papaya - fresh, delicious and juicy.
Foams and lathers well, its almost on par with the rest of TBS shower gel products. This papaya gives off a fruity smell which lingers on the body for a short while.
How It Works :
Papaya seed oil : moisturizes skin and is rich in essential fatty acids that help to repair skin’s moisture barrier, leaving skin smooth and supple.
Derivatives of sustainable palm oil and glycerin : cleanse and condition skin.
Ingredients :
Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Glycerin, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Cocamide DEA, Coco-Glucoside, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Benzoate, Citric Acid, Carica Papaya (Papaya) Seed Oil, Fragrance, PEG-55 Propylene Glycol Oleate, Propylene Glycol, Limonene, Benzophenone-4, Hexyl Cinnamal, Disodium EDTA, Linalool, Citronellol, Citral, Methyl 2-Octynoate, Caramel, Orange 4, Red 33

Review : My Beauty Diary Black Pearl Sheet Mask
Sunday, July 11, 2010
Product Description
This face mask contains natural active ingredients of Black Pearls to whiten and soften skin. It also contains Pineapples, Limes and Cucumbers Extract for accelerating cells turnover for a more radiant and fair look. Skin becomes brighter and smoother right after using it.
Benefits :
Firming, regenerating, moisturising, whitens and brightens the overall complexion
Another mask which was raved about by my friends after Intensive Rice Mask. It was supposed to be in second place, with the Rice Mask being in the first place. I was not that overly impressed with Intensive Rice Mask but its definitely good value for money.
With this Black Pearl Mask, I felt that its better than the Intensive Rice Mask in terms of hydration. At least I do see an improvement in my flaking skin while in the air-conditioned room during my stay in Taipei.
It smells very nice and reminds me of bubble milk tea which is probably how it derived its name. Even after 30mins, its still pretty soaked in essence on my skin.
The cut-out area is slightly wider on the eyes area. It would be good if it can cover more of my eye area. Its soaked in essence in each individual pack but it does not have the dripping messiness. I can layer it on the face comfortably.
After removing the mask, the essence absorbs into my skin easily, leaving a well-moisturised and dewy complexion.
And the next day, my skin feels exceptionally soft and smooth which lasts over a few days.
Its been claimed that the lime, cucumber and pineapple extracts gently removes dead cells. And I do notice that the pores on my nose are cleaner after each treatment. Blackheads were softened and I was able to remove it easily with a tissue paper.
Just a side note on its ingredients -
Pineapple,Lime extracts and Perfume may be irritants for some sensitive skin so use with care.

Updates
Its been some time since I update this blog because I have been away from Singapore. I was in Ho Chi Minh last weekend, touched down on Sunday and flew to Taipei on Monday. It has been a hectic week for me. I just came back yesterday.
Ho Chi Min was a short vacation trip with some friends while Taipei visit was a business trip.
I did not manage to shop much in Taipei as everyone was tired after work and dinner with our vendors.
However, here's my beauty haul of my visit.
Today, I went to Kinokuniya at Liang Court and bought this. A lovely bag when it was featured on the magazine but its actually a dull grey in colour. However, its quite roomy and its made of canvas material. Natural Beauty Basic Bag. $16.70

Review : Esuchen Treatment Shampoo and Acidifying Conditioner
Thursday, July 1, 2010
I received this complimentary set of shampoo and conditioner and after my hair perm at Hair Inn in January, its my second time receiving this and I thought I may as well review it.
Shampoo
Helps to nourishes hair with Arnica extracts and protein, restores luster and softness and moisturizes, seals split ends and rough cuticle layers
Shampoo Key Ingredients : Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein and Arnica
Shampoo Ingredients :
Conditioner
For hair after chemical treatment and as a 3-min instant treatment after shampooing. It nourishes and repairs the hair with hydrolyzed collagen.
It helps to restores natural pH of hair, replenishes lost moisture, oil and protein, promotes elasticity and increases shine and keep true colors and detangle.
Conditioner Key Ingredients :
AHAs - Alpha Hydroxy Acids are supposed to smoothen fine lines and surface wrinkles, improve skin texture and tone, unblock and cleanse pores. AHAs also improve oily skin or acne, and improve skin condition in general, thus making it equally as beneficial for the scalp.
Conditioner Ingredients :
Esuchen as printed on the back of both bottles come from Chino Hills, California but its manufactured in Taiwan. It has quite an impressive range of hair products
White in colour, with an almost creamy and moussy texture, the shampoo smells and feels minty when applied on the hair. Very refreshing for the scalp too. It foams up easily too.
It made my hair feel soft however, conditioner is highly recommended together for better detangling effect. My hair is dry hence, it tangled up easily. The first few initial usage without the conditioner was fine but subsequently, the hair becomes stiff and hard to control and manage.
The conditioner has a chemical smell which I do not quite like. It works in harmony with the shampoo to give softness to the hair, making it easier to manage. However, I failed to see any shine on my hair and its still lack of moisture.

Wonderful Uses for Witch Hazel
1. Spot and Blemish Control
Witch hazel can reduce the inflammation on a pimple. Some people claim daily use helps with acne, and witch hazel can be found in many Over The Counter treatments. Application with a Witch Stick is the most convenient, but you can dab it on with a cotton ball.
2. Soothe and Heal Diaper Rash
If your baby's rash isn't healing quick enough, apply witch hazel solution with a cotton ball and you should see immediate improvement to your baby's bottom.
3. Shrink Bags Under The Eyes
Some people say that the application of Hemorrhoid cream to those little baggies under your eyes can take them away. It’s not an old wives tale. One of the magic ingredients in a product like Preparation H is witch hazel, which helps tighten up the skin and reduce the bagginess.
4. Soothe and Reduce External Hemorrhoids
Not only does witch hazel tighten skin, it’s also a good anti-itch remedy. By combining witch hazel with aloe, glycerine or petroleum jelly and rub it on external hemorrhoids, you will reduce itching significantly and dry up most bleeding.
5. Varicose Vein Relief
Soak wash cloths in witch hazel and lay on legs, which are propped straight out, to reduce pain and swelling from varicose veins. The witch hazel helps to tighten the veins, relieving the discomfort temporarily
6. Soothe Poison Ivy and Poison Oak
Just like acne and blemishes, the witch hazel reduces itching and relieves swelling.
7. Treat Chicken Pox Blisters
A combination of aloe, honey, lavender and other essential oils create a spray that will vastly reduce the discomfort of Chicken Pox blisters. And it’s all-natural. Here’s what to do:
Mix together 1 tablespoon honey, 40 drops lavender essential oil, 15 drops lemon essential oil, 15 drops bergamot essential oil, 5 drops peppermint essential oil, 1 teaspoon carrot seed oil and 1/2 cup aloe vera gel.
Once completely mixed, and 1/2 cup distilled witch hazel and mix again. Pour mixture into spray bottle and use on affected areas (avoiding eyes). A more potent and less unsightly way to treat the Chicken Pox than traditional Calamine lotion.
8. Heal Your Bruises Faster
A thrice-daily dab of witch hazel can help speed up the healing time of the bruise.
9. Soothe Razor Burn
The anti-inflammatory properties of witch hazel stop itchy bumps from forming up around your irritated hair follicles. Apply before or after shaving, it should certainly have an impact on your itchy red skin (and that includes ladies, too).
10. Treat and Soothe A Nasty Sunburn
Healing damaged skin is one of witch hazel’s specialties. But as sunburn is also a type of skin inflammation, witch hazel is ideal for treating this too (despite swelling not being obvious). Treating sunburn with witch hazel will lessen healing time and prevent the infamous skin peeling and flaking.
11. Treat Dry Skin
Especially useful after showering, witch hazel can lock in the moisture in your skin. By applying witch hazel immediately after showering, you are locking in the moisture that has just soaked into your skin.
12. Use to Heal and Soothe Various Cuts and Bruises
Many chemists and pharmacists refer to witch hazel as nature’s answer to Neosporin. Applying a dab of it will cleanse the cut, protects against infection, and encourage quicker healing of minor skin breaks.
13. Take The Bite Out Of Bug Bites
With it’s anti-itch and anti-inflammatory properties, witch hazel is ideal for treating bug bites. Just dab a little on the affected area.
14. Refresh Tired Eyes
Soak a clean rag in witch hazel and cold water and placing the cold compress over your closed eyes. After 10 minutes, your eyes should be refreshed, and any redness should be gone.
15. Make Your Own Deodorant
Witch hazel is often used in deodorants due to it’s natural skin-healing and skin-care properties. Here is a home-made recipe you may want to try.
Ingredients:
1 tsp high proof vodka
10 drops geranium
10 drops cypress
8 drops bergamot
5 drops neroli
4 drops lavender
3 drops black pepper
4 tb sp (40 ml) witch hazel
2 tb sp (25 ml) cornflower water
2 tb sp (25 ml) orange flower water
1. Measure the vodka into a 4 oz (100 ml) glass bottle with a spray attachment.
2. Carefully add the essential oils, one by one.
3. Shake vigorously to dissolve the essential oils.
4. Pour the witch hazel into the bottle, using a funnel if necessary, followed by the two flower waters. Shake well.
5. Label the bottle and the deodorant is now ready to use.
6. Before you use the deodorant each time, give the bottle a good shake to ensure the essential oils are fully dispersed
