So does Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Mask live up to its hype? Lets find out!


Oil-free, alcohol-free, paraben-free, sulphate-free and phthalate-free, this anti-ageing treatment is said to help soften fine lines and wrinkles for a younger, brighter appearance and help you look extra radiant and refreshed for a gorgeous and smooth look.

Science has mixed reviews on gold’s effectiveness in skin care. A study conducted just last year found benefits when gold nanoparticles were combined with collagen and hyaluronic acid.

On the other hand, in a study by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery suggested that this particular trend does the opposite of what it’s intended to do. Namely, that gold nanoparticles actually accelerate the aging process, while also slowing down the body’s natural wound healing process.

I owned the 14ml travel size product which is part of my Sephora Favourite Mask Wonderland purchase and has been using it twice a week for the last couple of weeks. Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Mask is a gorgeous mask, the gold colour payoff gives off a luxurious vibe and you can't help but to ogle at the beautiful shimmering hue. However, peering closely, it just felt like they pour in massive amount of gold glitter in it, to make it look glowy and gimmicky.

Thick in consistency, the 24K Gold Mask goes onto the skin with a slight stickiness and you can see the beautiful glitter on your skin, almost making you feel like a movie star for that 10 minutes. While I have no major issues with rinsing it off with water, but some of the tiny glitters get "left behind" and stick to my skin. I carried on with my skin routine - serum, lotion, etc, and the glitters seem to have disappeared.

To be honest, I don't feel an amazing difference after each masking session, which I would apply up to 20 minutes before rinsing them off. For the price point, I was far from being blown away but it did feel like a pampering treat - slathering 24K Gold on skin, as opposed to going for a 24K Gold Facial in a salon.

That said, my skin felt and looked less tired - fresher and healthier looking for about 2 days but its not a long term effect, as with all masks. The firming effect is not apparent on my skin as I don't have a sagging issue to be able to see a difference for now, thankfully.

Note that there was a slight itch whenever I use it prior to InstaNatural Pro Radiant Skin Brightening Serum and Naruko Magnolia Brightening and Firming Lotion or some stinging and itching sensations after applying Handmade Heroes Beauty Warrior Hibiscus Vitamin C Boost Face Mask which disappeared after awhile. It seems that Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Mask has a tendency to react to Vitamin C products so do be careful.

In terms of ingredients, I like that the active ingredients are found mainly in the first 1/3 of the list which meant that the concentration is high enough to be able to make a difference to skin.
