Review : Skin Origin Cleansing Milk
Thursday, February 28, 2013
Product Description
A soft cleansing milk for all skin conditions, in particular for irritated and sensitive skin. Effectively cleanses all traces of makeup and impurities without causing any damage to the skin natural barrier system. Leavs the skin soft and supple.
After the "demise" of the Dermalogica Ultracalming Cleanser in its original formula, the beautician at my regular facial salon recommended this brand "Skin Origin" to me. Since I was in need of a good cleanser, I took the plunge and purchased this 200ml product for $75 ( GST excluded ).
Manufactured in Spain, Skin Origin products are touted to contain Penta Peptides which is a chain of
five amino acids that works at the cellular level and transforms skin with less abrasiveness. It is said to diminish skin sensitivity and allergic reaction which is essential to my skin. Adding on to the fact, that the beautician told me that it could help in alleviating eczema concerns, it had me pulling out my wallet almost instantly.
You can check out the rest of the products here.
Benefits of Penta Peptides
1 Intensive Lightening Effect Penta peptides inhabit tyrosinase, thus regulating skin pigmentation and spots. It also fade the appearance of dark areas by degrading existing Eumelanin, and produce Pheomelanin (T3) that returns skin to its natural colour tone.
2 Activation of Collagen synthesis by the fibroblast cell
It has the unique ability to stimulate collagen production, promoting firmer contours and improving elasticity of the skin allowing the skin to regain lost vitality and slow the onset of aging.
3 Increases moisture retention of the skin
It has the ability to restore and bind skin moisture; by transporting active ingredients into the cellular level so as to activate and strengthen the natural functions of the skin.
4 Elevate cell penetrating activity
It stimulates cell penetrating activities thus allowing active ingredients to carry out its properties.
5 Increase the binding of vitamins
It has the ability in binding of vitamins, which stimulate the skin's own regeneration process, improves the skin's own defenses against environmental strains and acts as a free radical scavenger.
6 Aids in DNA repair
It encourages the skin's DNA repair mechanism to self correct. It aids in rejuvenating immunity enhancing, and tissue-supporting development to promote cellular regeneration.
I was skeptical of using a cleansing milk as a cleanser since its usually known as a make-up remover. I had used cleansing milk many years ago, as a cleanser and it usually leave a film on the skin.
However, I have to honestly say that I never regret my purchase this time. My search for the perfect cleanser has ended. Finally.
I love this cleanser so much, much much more than the Dermalogica Ultracalming Cleanser. I am a harsh critic when it comes to my holy grail products and this cleanser won me over for being gentle and effective. Not many people like cleansing milk though, because of the layer of film it left behind, however I do highly encourage and recommend this product to those with sensitive skin. You have to try it to understand why I love it so much! Words just can't express my delight and joy each time I used it.
The white creamy and soft texture glides around the skin beautifully with a gentle and moisturising formula. It leaves a comfortable after-feel, with soft and supple skin in its place. Mild and without any harsh exfoliants, it moisturises the skin with a very thin layer of film which is hardly noticeable.
On skin which has eczema flare-ups, it helps to minimize and treat the dry, scaly and reddened skin within 3 to 5 days, depending on the severity. Each time I had an eczema flare-up which usually occur around and on the nose, this cleanser is my saviour. Even my Dermalogica Ultracalming Cleanser can't beat that.
In terms of ingredients, do note that the product contains Phenoxyethanol and Triethanolamine.
Review : Biotherm Skinergetic Eyes
Wednesday, February 27, 2013
Product Description
Targeting the five major signs of eye fatigue (dark circles, bags, fine lines, sagging eyelids and puffy eye lids), Skin.Ergetic Eyes offers a global solution to the signs of fatigue across the eye zone.
The light creamy formula is slightly tinted to immediately boost its effects against tired-looking eyes. Suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.
Proven Visible Results: For 80% of women, eyes looked less tired. Dark circles and bags look reduced, lines are smoothed and sagging eyelids are minimized. The entire eye area appears refreshed and rested.
Key Ingredients :
Chlorella V. Extract and Haloxyl™: Combat dark circles
Water retention-reducing Caffeine: Decrease eye bags and puffiness
Cellular density-boosting Adenosine: Reduces appearance of wrinkles and lack of firmness
Phitovityl C and Vitamin E: Helps detoxify skin
Protein-rich Soy Extract: Makes skin look less tired and stimulates energy-producing mitochondria
The 2 complimentary sachets I received as part of my Biotherm purchase during last Christmas lasted me for about 2 weeks of usage. I don't have a good impression of Biotherm eye treatment products in the past as most of them are too mild for my undereye area concerns.
This particular eye cream is slightly different, differ from its usual gel formulation. Instead it is creamy with a lightweight texture that sinks hungrily into my undereye area.
Being beige in colour, it can also doubled up as a light concealer but on my undereye area, it hardly made a difference.
I actually quite like the after-feel on my undereye area because it is refreshing and absorbs well.
This product glides well and made my undereye area smooth and supple. During the first week of usage, fine lines were minimized slightly.
However the results did not last long. By the end of the second week of usage, the effects were not that apparent.
Note that eyecare products usually require a longer duration to see a more permanent effect.
It retails at $70 for a 15ml size.

Review : Sophie Monk Mineral Diamond Brightening Mask ( Little Twin Stars )
Monday, February 25, 2013
Product Description
- Brightening
- Moisturising
- Deep cleansing
Yet another sheet I owned from the brand which I purchased from Sasa for $2 each. Similar to the Strawberry Whitening Mask , the cutting of the sheet mask is slightly larger for the undereye area. The scent is also overpowering but dissipates after awhile.
Soaked in essence, the mask provides adheres moderately well. The material is thin but sturdy. The brightening effect is very subtle but the moisturising effect is good, giving the skin a smooth and refreshing feeling.
Review : Derma E Evenly Radiant Makeup Remover
Sunday, February 24, 2013
Product Description
Evenly Radiant Makeup Remover is a natural, gentle formula that quickly removes all types of makeup, even waterproof mascara. It provides antioxidant, anti-irritant protection and is suitable for contact lens wears and all skin types.
Fragrance-free and oil-free, this makeup remover contains Chamomile, Cucumber and other botanical extracts to calm and soothe the delicate eye area.
Key Ingredients :
Chamomile and Cucumber extracts : soothe, refresh, and tighten skin
Eyebright extract : protects against inflammation and irritation
Bilberry extract : promotes healthy circulation
Green Tea extract : delivers important antioxidants to the delicate skin around the eyes
I purchased it for US$8.93 from iHerb mid last year. With a flip-top opening, the gap is abit small, but decent enough to control the amount. Gel-like texture, I need to spread it out on cotton pads before using it on my eye area. It stings slightly when it gets into the eyes though.
I like that its fragrance-free and oil-free, hence there is no oily residue at the end of each cleansing. It cleanses away normal eye make-up effortlessly but a cotton bud is still essential to ensure that the last remnants are totally cleared. Note that I do not use waterproof mascara so I won't be able to comment on its efficiacy.
A little bit goes a long way so each 118ml bottle will be able to last quite a while. You can read more about Paula's take on the brand and its poor choice of packaging which may cause deterioration of antioxidants.
Ingredients :
Water (aqua), disodium cocoamphodiacetate, decyl glucoside, glycerin, euphrasia officinalis (eyebright) extract, vaccinium myrtillus (bilberry) extract, allantoin, cucumis sativus (cucumber) fruit extract, panthenol, organic camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract* (.1%), organic chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract* (.1%), xanthan gum, phenoxyethanol, ethylhexylglycerin.
*Certified organic by Quality Assurance International
- Cruelty-free/gluten-free/vegan/pH balanced
- Never any harmful parabens, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, petrolatum, mineral oil or artificial colors
Review : Sophie Monk Strawberry Whitening Mask ( Little Twin Stars )
Saturday, February 23, 2013
Product Description
This mask contains the best popular beauty essences for moisture and brightening care. It includes collagen, strawberry extract, bilyberry extract, citrus extract, and more. A unique mask experience with Little Twin Stars!
Key Functions
- Moisturising
- Nourishing
- Brightening
- Whitening
I owned a sheet which I purchased from Sasa for $2. Its my first foray into this brand, so I thought I will just check it out to see how it fares on my skin.
I believe the heightened awareness of the brand is further elevated by having "Makiyo" fronting the Taiwanese brand.
It is said that "Sophie Monk’s revolutionary formula with natural botanical extracts intercept amped up melanin production and acts like a cluster-buster to remove coloration and restore clarity that the skin deserves."
Soaked in essence, the mask adherence is moderately fine, with a slightly larger cut-out on my undereye area. It left my skin feeling smooth and supple but did not exactly hydrate the areas on my nose where eczema flares up.
The scent is overpowering but dissipates after a while, though I rather do without the fragrance, if possible.

Review : Earth Therapeutics Hydrogel Undereye Recovery Patch
Wednesday, February 20, 2013
Product Description
Consisting of nutrient-enriched gel sheet layered on a soft cloth patch, these unique treatment strips stay positioned on the face to offer a clean, convenient, one-step process for soothing, replenishing, rejuvenating delicate skin around the eyes.
Enriched with a beneficial blend of plant extracts, green tea, and anti-oxidant vitamins, the gel sheet is actually an Active Hydrogel Delivery Matrix™ that cools and comforts on contact-while delivering a continuous, concentrated flow of nourishment and hydration to the skin.
Tired eyes are soothed and refreshed. Tired skin is replenished and revitalized. Puffiness and swelling are relieved. Dark circles are diminished. And used regularly over time, the Recovery Patches may even help to visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Your skin will look as good as it feels... nurtured and nourished... smooth and radiant.
Key Ingredients :
•Green Tea : organic anti-oxidant polyphenols that help to protect skin from the aging and damaging effects of free radicals
•Anti-Oxidant Vitamin Complex [Vitamin A + Vitamin C + Vitamin E] : smoothes, protects, and conditions the skin. Accelerates skin cell renewal and prevents skin cell damage
•Aloe Vera : soothes and hydrates
•Cucumber : ease puffiness and swelling
•Chamomile : comforts and relieves
Containing 5 pairs in a re-sealable package, the packaging looks simple but with a touch of class, as each individual packaged sheet is dark green in colour with a slight sheen.
Each pair of eye masks is shaped like a cresent moon and stuck to each other when I first pulled it out of the packaging. There is a protective layer between both sheets.
Cushioned and dry, it adheres well to the undereye area, with a slight tightening effect. It has a lovely orange scent and with a tinge of coolness to it. Having it in the fridge may probably elevated the effects of reducing the puffiness.
I can't really say that it works wonderfully well on me, though it does seem to do a subtle job of reducing the puffiness slightly, and with an addition of a good eye concealer, my undereye area does look slightly better. It does not seem to work everytime though.
Soothing, hydrating, comforting and relieving are not really there, at least for my skin.
It scored 3.7 from 3 users on Makeupalley. I purchased mine from Drugstore for US$7.03

Review : Enavose Cellogist Neck Lift Cream
Sunday, February 17, 2013
Product Description
Arrest telling signs of ageing and affirm youth with spectacular toning, firming and tightening of the v-zone (area from chin line to the cleavage). This powerful neck lifting cream considerably improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkling and sagging skin. Fight the “turkey neck” effect with robust youth-rousing actions that start from deep within to give you an attractive décolletage.
A lovely package awaits me, from the lovely folks at Enavose. Wrapped with a pashima shawl, it aptly shows the care needed for the neck area and that is where this neck lift cream becomes important.
Neck is often the most neglected part of the body but it is actually important to pay attention to it because it shows the real age of a person easily. The skin on the neck is thin and delicate and because it does not have any fat deposits, it is much prone to wrinkles.
Similarly to how we take care of our face, we should also exfoliate the neck area at least once a week and apply a neck cream to it.
Prior to receiving the product, I have never ever use a neck cream before. I have to admit that I used to be one of those who neglects the neck area but I have been diligently using my moisturiser on my neck area since 2 years ago. While I can't say that the face moisturiser has improve the condition of the horizontal lines around my neck significantly but I am hoping that this neck cream with its speciality for the neck is able to do so, and perhaps shave off some years from my neck age. LOL
I am not new to Enavose, having tried their FloraComfort Micellar Cleansing Water, Cellogist Youth Guard Cream and their Probotics Exfoliance Gommage since last year. You can check out their range of products here.
Enavose believes in skincare with integrity which helps to establish their 5 guiding principles
- No parabens, SLES, mineral oil, allergenic fragrances
- No animal testing
- Use of natural preservatives as much as possible
- Tested under dermatological supervision
- Obtain ingredients and raw materials with species protection in mind
Based on the 2009 Nobel Prize-winning discovery of telomeres ( found at each end of chromosomes in our DNA structure ), it helped to reveal the secret to ageing and urged us to look inside the very essence of human life: our DNA.
This Cellogist Neck Lift Cream incorporates a Cell Senescence Intervene Technology (CS-IT) which defies skin aging through comprehensive skin health support.
CS-IT is powered by TeloMax – a superb age-defence active that delves deep into skin’s core – and synergised with InterCell System, a foremost encapsulation technology that promotes greater penetration to cross barriers in skin. To achieve enduring youth, CS-IT targets the core of ageing right where it matters most.
I have been using this neck lift cream for more than a week, twice daily with uplifting movements.
Personally, I think it would be excellent if Enavose can include some neck lifting massage movements to enhance the absorption of the cream and maximise the benefits of the product, like what Clarins does for its lifting products.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed using the neck lift cream, knowing that I am giving my neck its well-deserved pampering.
This product comes in a jar form, with an airless mechanism to dispense the contents, in order to maintain its freshness since you only dispense what you need. Convenient and hygenic, it fits our daily hectic lifestyle, without the use of fingers and spatula ( frequent washing required! ).
What I dislike about it, is that there is a silver lining around the jar, which I supposed, is to prevent the contents from coming into contact with air or bacteria. The silver paper creases and silver flakes come off, dirtying the top of the jar where the contents are dispensed. Refer to the picture above for better understanding. It irritates me since these silver flakes get stuck to the jar and my fingers and perhaps even my skin, if I am not careful.
Active Ingredients
Telomax, Vitamin A Palminate, Kigelia Africana Plant, Sodium Hyaluronate
The neck lift cream has a distinct floral scent that may be overpowering to some, but it dissipates after a short while. The white cream is of medium consistency that is neither light nor heavy, leaving a slight sticky layer which takes some time for it to sink into the skin.
The usage may have been too short to get a good review or to see any visible improvement but adding a neck cream to our skincare regime is definitely an essential step to fight the turkey neck effect!
If you have always been thinking about getting a neck lift cream, yet do not know where to start, here's your chance to get the product at the current price of $69 for a 50ml size, which was originally retailing at $99.50.
And with every Cellogist Neck Lift Cream purchase, get 20% off all regular-priced merchandise from the Cellogist range.
Promotion ends Thursday, 28th Feb 2013.
What is great about Enavose is that it has a 30 Day Satisfaction Guarantee! It simply means that they take pride in their products.

Review : Paula's Choice Pure Mineral Sunscreen SPF15
Friday, February 15, 2013
Product Description
I have been using the one and only sachet as my morning sunscreen lately. With a distinct sunscreen scent, it has a creamy texture that glides on the skin beautifully without any stickiness, heaviness or greasiness. Skin feels comfortable without any tautness. Because it contains some silicone ingredients, it also leave the skin feeling smooth to the touch.
Note that there is a slight white cast which can be easily concealed by my BB cream and loose powder.
While I like that it contains mineral sunscreen agents like Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide, its percentage for Zinc Oxide and SPF are so much lower than my favourite Dermalogica Super Sensitive Faceblock SPF30.
Zinc Oxide provides a broad spectrum protection for both UVA and UVB so its definitely essential in a sunblock for the face, while Titanium Dioxide itself offers only partial UVA protection and full UVB protection.
It also contains several preservatives which I rather have them to be reduced.
It scored 3.5 from 49 users on Makeupalley.
Ingredients :
Active Ingredients: Titanium Dioxide 6.94%; Zinc Oxide 2.25% (sunscreen agents).
Other Ingredients: Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone (silicones used as skin conditioning and suspending agents for the sunscreen actives), Methylpropanediol (slip agent), PEG-10 Dimethicone (silicone thickener), Glycerin (skin-identical ingredient), PEG-10 Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer (water resisting agent), Alumina (thickener), Acrylates/Dimethicone Copolymer (water resisting agent), Camellia Oleifera (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract (antioxidants/soothing agents), Methicone (skin conditioning agent), Triethoxycaprylylsilane (binding agent), Butylene Glycol (solvent), Sodium Chloride (stabilizer), Magnesium Sulfate (thickener), Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben, Isobutylparaben (all preservatives)

Review : Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum Infusion
Thursday, February 14, 2013
Product Description
Everyday pollution can damage the delicate eye area and accelerate visible aging. Now, discover this super-potent serum with anti-pollution technology to help significantly inhibit the appearance of visible damage from environmental assaults. Tested and proven to dramatically reduce the look of fine lines, wrinkles, dark circles, dryness and puffiness.
I owned 5 sachets of this product which I started off using it alone and moving on to using it before an eye cream. It lasted me for slightly more than a week, with twice daily usage.
Containing Hyaluronic Acid to help skin lock in moisture and strengthen its protective moisture barrier as well as powerful antioxidants to neutralize environmentally generated free radicals before they can cause future damage, this serum is lightweight in texture and sinks into the skin easily.
My undereye area has always been dry and this serum is not capable enough to hydrate the area sufficiently. In fact, layering an eye cream on top of it is definitely necessary and essential. After more than a week usage, I failed to see any improvement to my undereye area. Then again, eyecare products usually take some time to perform its magic, if any.
Note that Hyaluronic Acid ingredient is in the middle of the ingredient list, so that says alot about the concentration of it, which isn't alot. You can also read Paula's take about the product here.
A 15ml sized product retails for $96.

Review : Yadah Brightening Mask Pack
Tuesday, February 12, 2013
Product Description
Key Ingredients :
I purchased a pack at S$7.92 ( down from the original $9.90 ) which consists of 3 sheets of individually wrapped masks. The illustrations on the packaging is very cute, definitely with teenagers in mind.
The material of the mask is moderately thick and does not tear easily while the texture of the mask is sturdy without being scratchy. However, the cutting of the mask does not really fit the contours of my face, as the area of the nose was cut too large, leaving a large gap near the wings of the nose. Eye flaps were included which can doubled up as an eye mask.
The mask is soaked with essence ( but with no drippy mess ) and remained so, even after 30 minutes of treatment. There was a slight itch nearer the end of the 30 minutes treatment but it did not leave my skin red after removing the sheet mask. There was a slight tightening effect during the treatment though.
My skin stayed hydrated, smooth and soft till the following morning as my make-up glides on well. Skin looks brighter and more radiant.

Benefits :
- Repairs past visible damage
- Helps protect skin's future
Dermatologist-tested, Ophthalmologist-tested, Fragrance-free, Non-acnegenic and with 20+ patents worldwide, this product is one of Estee Lauder's famed products.
I have used it before many years ago but it did not leave a deep impression on me, probably due to my relatively young skin at that point in time. I am not sure if the formula have been tweaked since then, but the name certainly sounds slightly different.
1982 : Night Repair Cellular Recovery Complex
1991 : Advanced Night Repair Protective Recovery Complex
2009 : New Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex
I have 7 sachets of this product which lasted me for about 2 weeks since you just need a few drops of the contents for the whole face.
This product is best to be used at night, before a moisturiser. I used it alone for the past 2 weeks at night, without any moisturiser, to deem its efficacy.
The texture is gel-like with a slippery feel. Honey-coloured, it glides and sinks into the skin rapidly leaving a smoother base in its place, without any greasy feel. Skin feels soft and smooth to the touch. I wouldn't peg it as very hydrating, though during the usage period, I have not experienced much flakiness, so it does hydrates the skin moderately.
Oddly enough, the effects of this product seemed more pronounced when I use Loreal Youth Code Pre-Essence in the morning and this product in the night which boasts of the same main ingredient - Bifida Ferment Lysate.
Overall, my pores appeared more refined, skin is more radiant, smoother and there is less redness.
A 50ml size retails for $142. Check out the reviews on Makeupalley where it scored 4.1 from 414 users. You can also read about Paula's take on this product here.

Haircut at H49 Salon
Sunday, February 10, 2013
Salon : H49 Salon at Midpoint Orchard
Location : #B1-09 Midpoint Orchard S(238852)
Tel : 67388849
Stylist : Alson (Creative Director)
Together with my friends, we bought vouchers for a no-part bangs haircut, thinking it will be a refreshing change from our usual boring center-part, side-part, or forehead-baring hairstyles. We top up an additional $20 for a whole head Japanese craved cut.
The salon is small, cramped and messy with lots of hair on the floor. It was crowded with customers. Even though our appointment was for 430pm, it was actually 545pm when one of the directors is finally free to cut my hair. I am annoyed that they tried to brush us off with an excuse that we should not come in 4pax. I meant, Hello! you were the one who told us there are available slots for 4 persons at 430pm.
While waiting for my turn, sitting near the cashier, I overheard the exchange between the stylist and the customer and or every customer who paid at the cashier, none of them were pleased with their haircut. That sounds bad. I saw at least 3 customers who were complaining about their new haircut. "It wasn't what I expected", "Can I still refund even if I am not happy?" and " why is it so frizzy after the cut? "
Observing at my 2 friends who were having their haircuts done, both were not that pleased with theirs too. That prompted me to quickly flip through a Japanese magazine and choose a hairstyle that looks decent and pretty enough for the no-part bangs haircut.
There are no stylists or senior stylists, all of them are either Creative Directors or Salon Managers.
Alson, an amicable and friendly stylist layered my hair too much and changed my parting to the other side, saying its easy for me to manage whichever parting I wanted, just that I need to blow my hair. What is it about "no-part bangs" haircut then?
He did not exactly taught me how to style my so-called bangs, he just emphasized that I should blow my hair.
He was keen in recommending Shiseido products to me, but without aggressive hard-sell. One for the grey hair, one texturizing spray and one volume spray. He looked disappointed that I bought none but still maintained a smile.
The end result looks fine to me though not exactly as pretty as the picture in the magazine. However, once I stepped out of the salon and the wind blowed, I looked like a wild cat, all of a sudden. Sigh.
Back home, I changed it back to my usual hair parting and with the "too much" layering, I looked nothing like the picture. My face did not look smaller as what the voucher claimed. Still, I do need some time to adjust to this haircut.
$39 for a simple haircut is not that cheap either.

Review : Laneige Pore Tight Essence
Friday, February 8, 2013
Product Description
Tightens unsightly, open pores and manage sebum production.
Contracts the skin around pores to give it a tighter appearance, making it look younger and smoother while detoxifying and firming the pores at the same time
Benefits :
- Tightens enlarged and drooped pores with cooling texture when applied.
- Keeps your skin look smooth and clean by quick absorbing without stickiness, elastically tightening pores, and controlling excessive sebum.
- A pore-tex peptide ingredient tightens enlarged pores and contracts the skin around pores by functioning to recover bone growth proteins and elastic proteins that prop up skin cells and pore barrier.
- Thuja orientalis seed extract, patent ingredient of AMOREPACIFIC, takes control of excessive excretion of sebum, and keeps pores look more clearly refined.
- With pore berry complex ingredients, it helps feed the supply of water into the skin whose hormonal balance was disturbed by excessive sebum secretion and lack of moisture, and it fortifies the defense system against skin troubles.
I received 3 sachets as part of my birthday perks from Tangs last year. I hardly ever use any pore-tightening or sebum-controlling products because 1) I am skeptical of any pore-tightening products 2) I rather use the natural way to dab on my skin oiliness with a tissue paper than to block it with a product unnaturally 3) My T-zone oiliness is still not that drastic yet.
White in colour, the texture is gel-like which I use on the trouble areas, namely on the T-zone and the slightly open pores beside my nose. It has a strong alcohol scent, giving rise to a cool minty feel. With the usage of this product, I do notice a subtle appearance of lesser oil on the nose ocassionally. The pore size looked about the same which is something I have expected.

Review : Hada Labo Cleansing Oil with High Purity Olive Oil
Thursday, February 7, 2013
Product Description
With High Purity Olive Oil for powerful cleansing and Super Hyaluronic acid for moisturising, even waterproof mascara can be removed with ease while being gentle to the skin. The water soluble Cleansing Oil also washes away easily without any greasy residue, stickiness or dryness.
With a "Perfect X Simple" philosophy, Hada Labo uses only the purest, finest and effective ingredients that are beneficial to the skin, with no unncessary additives that burden it. It is free of fragrances, mineral oil and colorant. Skin PH balanced. Low irritation.
I have a sachet of this cleansing oil which enabled me to use it for 3 days. I am not a fan of cleansing oil and this product still did not win me over, unlike Shu Uemura cleansing oil ( it contains mineral oil so it is out of my list ).
This cleansing oil is their latest product and is touted to be effective and hydrating. The texture is similar to most cleansing oils and is supposed to be used on dry skin first before emulsifying and all make-up gunk will be cleansed off, once it comes into contact with water.
The scent is abit pungent to my senses and the cleansing oil, surprisingly, left my skin feeling taut after every cleansing session. I did not use it on the eye area so I cannot comment on its effectiveness for eye make-up.

List Of Common UV Filters and Blockers
Wednesday, February 6, 2013
In recent years, there have been some controversy on chemical UV filters increasing cancer-causing free radicals, thus causing more damage than they prevent. In short, it meant that photo-unstable sunscreens may damage our skin. ie. Oxybenzone
Hence, simply applying sunscreen with ingredients like avobenzone, bemotrizinol, or benzophenone-3 (Oxybenzone) isn’t enough. Stabilizers are often needed to protect against ingredients that degrade easily. ie. in a sunscreen that uses avobenzone as a UV blocker, it may have octocrylene as a stabilizer. This increases the risk of irritation and adds to the low-level toxicity of the product.
Along with UV filters, its recommended to have an antioxidant to reduce the production of free radicals.
A sunscreen filter is photo-stable if it does not degrade in sunlight. In practice, the most photo-unstable filter is avobenzone. Octyl methoxycinnamate is also photo-unstable but it does not degrade quite as quickly. However, the combination of avobenzone and octinoxate degrades faster than either alone. Oxybenzone (benzophenone-3) is also photo-unstable.

Review : Bioderma Photoderm SPF30 Mattifying Sun Fluid
Tuesday, February 5, 2013
Product Description
The high anti-UVB efficacy and unmatched anti-UVA performance of Photoderm AKN Matsafely protect against sunburn.
A major advance against risks of cell damage, its exclusive patented Cellular BIOprotection® complex* provides optimum protection for the skin cells.
The sebo-regulating Fluidactiv® complex*, a BIODERMA innovation, improves sebum quality and helps to keep the skin clear and healthy. Photoderm AKN Mat guarantees a long-term matifying effect. Colourless when applied, Photoderm AKN Mat leaves no oily film and no white marks. Photoderm AKN Mat guarantees excellent tolerance. It is non-comedogenic and photostable.
I owned a 15ml sized sample which I brought it along for my Hainan trip. Recommended for oily or combination skin, the texture of this sun fluid is not really fluid-like texture despite the name claims.
White in colour, it is thick and creamy. I used it for the hands and neck, rather than the face, since it looks like it could clog my pores. It has a distinct sunscreen scent as well.
In terms of sunscreen ingredients,
Octocrylene protects against partial UVA and full UVB rays
Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol is an organic compound that absorbs ultraviolet (UV) light.(source )
Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane ( also known as avobenzone ) protects against full UVA and partial UVB rays
Octocrylene
According to TIA, Octocrylene can penetrate into the skin and act as a photosensitizer, resulting in an increased production of free radicals. Free radicals can induce indirect DNA damage and potentially contribute to the increased incidence of malignant melanoma in sunscreen-users. Maximum recommended by FDA is 3%. You can also read more about it in EWG.
According to this source, Octocrylene appears to be a strong allergen leading to contact dermatitis in children and mostly photoallergic contact dermatitis in adults with an often-associated history of photoallergy from ketoprofen. Patients with photoallergy from ketoprofen frequently have positive photopatch test reactions to octocrylene. These patients need to be informed of sunscreen products not containing octocrylene, benzophenone-3, or fragrances
Avobenzone
According to this source, tests have revealed Avobenzone’s tendency to significantly degrade in light over time, lessening its sun protection capabilities. For this reason, most sunscreens containing the ingredient also include photo-stabilizing ingredients like octocrylene.
Avobenzone appears to be relatively non-toxic and non-irritating to the skin. However, because it is often used in conjunction with photo-stabilizers, there is a greater risk for skin irritation and low-level toxicity. Furthermore, some studies have demonstrated it to be absorbed by the body and secreted into urine, and is therefore not recommended to use on children or pregnant women

Review : Paula's Choice Earth Sourced Antioxidant-Enriched Natural Moisturizer
Monday, February 4, 2013
Product Description
Ideal for those with rosacea, mild eczema, or sensitive skin, this 98% natural, 100% fragrance- and colorant-free moisturizer is with an antioxidant-rich formula stimulates collagen production. Rich yet surprisingly light texture nourishes dry skin, leaving skin looking younger and feeling silky-soft.
This antioxidant-rich moisturiser is a welcomed choice to my usual hydrating moisturisers.
This antioxidant moisturiser has been my daily day moisturiser for the past 3 weeks when my skin was at its optimal level. Paula's Choice products are not widely available in Singapore, but you can purchase it from their Singapore-based site.
The Earth Sourced line by Paula's Choice is a natural skin care line. According to Paula, this product is packed with natural ingredients proven to help skin, the formula contains numerous plant-based antioxidants plus cell-communicating and repairing ingredients. These ingredients work to hydrate and smooth skin plus help it look and act younger.
Recommended for Normal, Combination and Oily Skin, it is said to be effective for those with Anti-aging, Eczema, Extra Sensitive Skin, Redness and Rosacea concerns as well as being gentle enough for baby's skin.
I wasn't too impressed with its sunscreen formulation during my first foray into the brand, which was a little drying for my skin hence there was no expectation for this range, when I first used it.
As part of a sample kit, I have 4 sachets of this moisturiser which I use faithfully every morning.
I was pleasantly surprised by its seemingly rich texture, but surprisingly light lotion feel that gets absorbed into the skin comfortably. It is touted to hydrate the skin while treating it to a combination of antioxidants and skin-repairing ingredients which supposingly helps to stimulate collagen production and renew skin cells.
There is no scent and the moisturiser just glides on the skin easily and effortlessly. On optimal skin, it works beautifully, hydrating it and giving it a soft and natural glow. On flaky skin, it is just not hydrating enough to combat those flakiness.
The ingredients are great for the skin and the product seemed gentle enough, however there is a tacky feeling on the skin if you applied it with a heavy hand after the toner and it does takes a long time for it to sink into the skin.
It takes some trial and error to get that "just right" combination that suits my skin. Less is more, in this case.
It scored 3.8 from 13 users on Makeupalley.

Saturday, February 2, 2013
Product Description

This formula is based on a specialized, proprietary technology that truly captures the best of nature fused with science. Because of this technology, this toner stands alone for repairing and rejuvenating skin. Using this toner drenches your skin with antioxidants, preparing it for the next step in your skin care routine.
Benefits
The 4 sachets I owned are part of the Sample Set I purchased last year. Alternatively, you can also check out the full size products on the SG website.
The toner has a slippery texture that is akin to a gel-like formulation. Hazy white in colour, the gel-like formula meant that I need to spread it out alittle on the cotton pads before using it on the skin. Alternatively, I also used it directly from hands to face, tapping on it, after application, to boost blood circulation.
It scored 4.5 from 11 users on Makeupalley. You can also check out the type of ingredients here.
I like the fact that the toner is loaded with antioxidants which is essential for those aged above 25, where anti-aging regime comes into play. It does not have added fragrance or colorants but instead is rich in antioxidants, anti-irritants, plant oils, amino acids, and other skin conditioners.
My skin feels refreshed and comfortable, with lightweight hydration but sometimes tacky if I applied too much.
