Product Description
Antipodes Flora Probiotic Skin-Rescue Hyaluronic Mask is designed to soothe sensitive skin while targeting blemishes, offering a creamy vegan mask experience enriched with high-performance probiotics for a calm, clear complexion.
Probiotic rinse-off masks are designed to support the skin’s natural ecosystem while providing hydration and soothing benefits. Depending on their formulation, they may contain probiotic-derived ingredients, humectants such as hyaluronic acid, and calming ingredients to help maintain a healthy skin barrier.
Antipodes Flora Probiotic Skin-Rescue Hyaluronic Mask promises to hydrate, soothe redness, and support the skin barrier with its probiotic-derived ingredient and plant-based moisturising ingredients.
I had consciously avoided purchasing products from Antipodes for several years following a disappointing experience with the brand. An Instagram friend and I had both won a giveaway on its Instagram page, but neither of us received our prizes. When I followed up, I was told that the item had been sent out (without any tracking numbers) and was told to wait. The lack of a satisfactory resolution left a bad impression ever since.
When I came across Antipodes' rinse-off masks in Perth last year, I hesitated before eventually deciding to give them a try. I needed replacements for my recently emptied Wafood Made Uji Matcha Pack and Pixi Rose Remedy Mask, so I decided to put my reservations aside and see how the products performed.
Packaging, Scent and Texture
Antipodes Flora Probiotic Skin-Rescue Hyaluronic Mask comes in a 75ml squeeze tube with a screw-on cap. The packaging is straightforward and makes dispensing the creamy mask relatively easy. The mask has a calming fragrance with notes of wild rose and lavender.
How To Use :
1) Smooth a generous layer over cleansed face and neck.
2) Leave for up to 15 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.
3) Apply two to three times a week to keep skin calm and clear.
Performance and Ingredients
The formula is marketed as a cooling, skin-rescuing mask intended to help soothe discomfort, redness and blemish-related irritation. With its combination of hydration-focused ingredients and probiotic-derived technology, it sounds promising for skin that needs extra comfort and moisture.
Despite its promising name and soothing skincare claims, the Antipodes Flora Probiotic Skin-Rescue Hyaluronic Mask turned out to be a major disappointment for me.
My first attempt was to use it to calm the redness caused by the Eve Lom cleanser. I had been a little too enthusiastic when I first started using the cleanser, which has exfoliating properties and was not suitable for me as a daily cleanser at that time.
The mask caused a slight stinging sensation when applied. Although it seemed to calm most of the redness, the largest patch on my cheeks remained noticeably red. Given that the mask was marketed as a skin-rescuing product, I had hoped for a more comfortable experience.
I gave it another chance on different days, but the stinging sensation persisted. I also noticed a subtle feeling of tightness around my philtrum, the area between the base of my nose and upper lip. Neither experience inspired much confidence in a mask intended to soothe sensitive and stressed skin.
Things were even worse during my Hokkaido trip. I brought the mask along, hoping it would help replenish moisture and soothe my skin after long days outdoors. Instead, it stung quite badly when I applied it. My skin had become particularly sensitised during the trip, possibly due to prolonged sun exposure, and the mask was clearly not providing the comforting experience I needed.
While I cannot say whether the formula itself or my skin's compromised condition was responsible for the reaction, the repeated stinging made it difficult for me to enjoy using this mask. If a product marketed for soothing and skin-barrier support consistently causes discomfort, it simply does not work for my skin.
Do note that the PAO period is 6 months which simply meant you need to use up the mask within 6 months after opening.

Conclusion
To conclude, Antipodes Flora Probiotic Skin-Rescue Hyaluronic Mask sounded promising on paper, with its probiotic-derived ingredient, plant-based hyaluronic acid and New Zealand harakeke flax gel. Unfortunately, my experience did not live up to its skin-soothing and hydrating claims. The repeated stinging sensation and tightness around my philtrum made it difficult for me to enjoy using this rinse-off mask, especially when my skin was already sensitised.
While the formula may work differently for others, it was not a good fit for my sensitive, easily irritated skin. I had hoped this probiotic face mask would help calm redness and replenish moisture, but it left me disappointed instead. Not a repurchase. Just glad that there was a sale and I didn't pay AUD50 for this rinse-off mask.
