Coco & Eve Body Sunscreen SPF 50+ Review
Product Description
Coco & Eve Body Sunscreen SPF 50+ is an Australian-made SPF 50+ body sunscreen with broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection that ensures you're protected from harmful rays while unlocking soft, silky-smooth skin. Infused with Coconut Oil, Aloe Vera, and Vitamin E, this lightweight sunscreen nourishes and hydrates your skin, leaving you with a healthy and radiant glow. Not only is it fast-absorbing and nourishing, but it also boasts 4 hours of water-resistant protection, perfect for working out or a day at the beach or pool.

This is my first Coco & Eve product.

According to the brand, if you want smooth, even, healthy-looking skin, the one product you should use every day is sunscreen. Why? Because if you forget to protect your skin from the sun, not even the very best Vitamin C serum or prescription strength retinol will save you from premature fine lines, dullness and pigmentation - or the nastier skin issues!

Coco & Eve Body Sunscreen SPF 50+ Comparison

This is my first product from the brand and I purchased both sunscreens during a Sephora sale, so look out for for the face sunscreen review next year, as I just started using it not long ago.

Made in Australia, Coco & Eve products do not include drying or damaging sulfates, phthalates, or parabens. Their famed products are Like A Virgin Hair Masque and Sunny Honey Bali Bronzing Foam.

It carries a classic sunscreen scent that fades quickly, while the milky lotion texture spreads effortlessly across the skin. The formula offers a light cooling sensation on application, giving it a refreshing feel, especially in Singapore’s humid weather.

How To Use :
Apply an even layer of this lotion on skin 20 minutes before sun exposure.
Reapply frequently especially after swimming, sweating or towelling.

Performance and Ingredients

Coco & Eve Body Sunscreen SPF 50+ boasts of a formula made with skin-loving ingredients, including vitamin E (which acts as an antioxidant, helping to protect cells from damage), coconut oil (which plumps, smooths and soothes skin) and aloe vera (which provides long-lasting moisturisation along with anti-inflammatory properties) this Coco & Eve sunscreen is an absolute must-pack if you’re jetting off to warmer climes. What’s more, the Body Sunscreen SPF50 is water-resistant for up to four hours, making it ideal for an afternoon at the beach or by the pool.

Coco & Eve recommends 2 tablespoons worth of sunscreen for the body, for adequate protection. Are you applying enough?

On the skin, this body sunscreen feels lightweight and non-greasy, but it does leave a noticeable tackiness that never quite dries down. The stickiness was obvious enough that my sister even asked why my arms felt “sticky” when she brushed against me so this is something to keep in mind if you prefer a dry-touch finish.

As a chemical sunscreen, it uses a blend of broad-spectrum UV filters to deliver SPF 50+ protection.

The 4 UV filters are....

Coco & Eve Body Sunscreen SPF 50+ UV filters

Homosalate : An organic compound that belongs to salicylates. It is an ester formed from salicylic acid and 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol, a derivative of cyclohexanol. Salicylates prevent direct skin exposure to the sun’s harmful rays by absorbing ultraviolet (UV) light. Homosalate specifically absorbs short-wave UVB rays, which are associated with DNA damage and increased risk of skin cancer.

Octocrylene : It protects the skin against short UVA and long UVB rays, however from this research study, Octocrylene appears to be a strong allergen leading to contact dermatitis in children and mostly photoallergic contact dermatitis in adults with an often-associated history of photoallergy from ketoprofen.

Octyl Salicylate : Ethylhexyl Salicylate ( also known as Ethylhexyl Salicylate or Octisalate ) is an organic compound used as an ingredient in sunscreens and cosmetics to absorb UVB (ultraviolet) rays from the sun. Although the Cosmetics Ingredient Review notes that reproductive and developmental toxicity can occur in relation to Salicylic Acid, one of the two primary components of Ethylhexyl Salicylate, it has determined that the levels used in cosmetic and beauty products would not cause any adverse reaction. Importantly, the FDA has approved Ethylhexyl Salicylate for use in sunscreen with up to 5% concentration. Ethylhexyl Salicylate receives an EWG hazard rating of 4.

Avobenzone : Also known as Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, it appears to be relatively non-toxic and non-irritating to the skin. However, because it is often used in conjunction with photo-stabilizers, there is a greater risk for skin irritation and low-level toxicity. Furthermore, some studies have demonstrated it to be absorbed by the body and secreted into urine, and is therefore not recommended to use on children or pregnant women

However tests have revealed Avobenzone’s tendency to significantly degrade in light over time, lessening its sun protection capabilities. For this reason, most sunscreens containing the ingredient also include photo-stabilizing ingredients like octocrylene.

* Active Ingredients: Homosalate 100mg/g, Octocrylene 80mg/g, Octyl Salicylate 50mg/g, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane 30mg/g

Purified Water / Aqua, Homosalate, Octocrylene, White Beeswax / Cera Alba (Beeswax), Aloe Vera / Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Octyl Salicylate / Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Isopropyl Palmitate, Cetostearyl Alcohol / Cetearyl Alcohol, Cyclomethicone / Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Ceteareth-20, Cocos Nucifera / Cocos Nucifera Oil, Dl-Alpha-Tocopheryl Acetate / Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Carbomer 941 / Carbomer, Benzyl Alcohol, Hydroxyacetophenone, Phenoxyethanol, Trolamine / Triethanolamine, Citric Acid

Conclusion

To conclude, Coco & Eve Body Sunscreen SPF 50+ offers solid UV protection with a refreshing gel-lotion texture, however the noticeable stickiness makes it less ideal for humid days or when you’re out and about.
