A good friend of mine, has been wow-ing about Skin Inc products for awhile and so, I decided to pop in by the store during one of our chit-chat sessions together. I have previously tried out Skin Inc Pure Deepsea Hydrating Mask and Skin Inc Renew Coenzyme Q10 more than 4 years ago but wasn't overly impressed then so perhaps its time to revisit the brand.

Skin Inc is a Singapore brand but their products are made in Japan, with 0% paraben and 0% scent. It has won over 100 awards from renowned beauty authorities and insiders across the globe. Said to be suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin, the brand is famed for their custom serums, with patented encapsulation technology from Japan. The caviar-inspired capsules protect active ingredients from exposure to light and oxidation, keeping them fresh and potent for maximum effectiveness. The serums are versatile and compatible with any skincare and makeup product which one can add them to masks, moisturisers, primer and foundations.

In the store, I was tasked to fill in a Skin Identity Questionaire ( Skin Inc’s proprietary self-diagnostic tool developed by Skin Inc scientists based on decades of skin aging research ) about my skin problems and concerns. Thereafter, I was given 2 x 5ml sizes of the Skin Inc Serum in Chlorella and Vitamin A and told to mix both together ( 3 drops from each bottle ) to be used.

Word of mouth is really powerful, especially when it comes from those who are close to you and I am definitely glad to have revisited Skin Inc this time.

Skin Inc My Daily Dose ( Chlorella ) is a clear serum with purple bits within it. It has a viscous texture and is slightly sticky upon application. I tend to use the serum prior to a facial mist, so the stickiness is at its minimum. It sinks into the skin pretty quickly and made my skin feeling soft.

I started with 1 drop of Chlorella Serum for 1 week  ( day and night ) but did not see much difference with the short duration and moved on to using Vitamin A Serum for another 1 week ( day and night ). I just wanted to compare both serums before mixing both so I use them singularly at the initial stages.

By the 3rd day of using Vitamin A Serum, the transformation of my skin was simply amazing. It was super velvety smooth and supple and my skin looked really good even without makeup. There was no redness that my skin is commonly associated with, around the nose edges.

A week later, I can see that the pores on my nose were more refined and blackheads were almost non-existent. I think the blackheads are there but just not visible, because when I switched products, the blackheads become visible yet again, like a strawberry.

The texture of Skin Inc My Daily Dose ( Vitamin A ) serum is similar to that of Chlorella serum, where it is also a clear serum but with pink bits in it. It is not a Retinol serum but Retinyl Palmitate, which is a milder form of Vitamin A. I was told that even pregnant ladies can use it.

After 2 weeks, I mixed both serums together, 1 ~ 2 drops each, from each bottle to be used twice a day. Overall, my skin tone looked fresher, younger, smoother, clearer and more even toned. I love touching my velvety smooth skin!

Unfortunately, the Skin Inc My Daily Dose ( Chlorella + Vitamin A ) did not solve my undereye concern which was my priority. Fine lines, dark circles and eye bags were issues that I wanted to get rid of but it did not go away. In fact, my undereye area still looked as dreadful. So while I am indeed happy about my skin but my top concern still remains.

Both Skin Inc Chlorella Serum and Vitamin A serums were alittle drying so a good moisturiser is key. Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask works pretty well for me. It is an overnight mask but is rich enough to double up as a moisturiser where I will use it after the serums application.

Last year, Skin Inc teamed up with Y7 Yoga founder Sarah Levey to create some facial yoga routines that will slim your face, make it glow and make applying your serum more like giving yourself a nice facial massage.

0:36 is where the steps for the facial massage start.

Both Retinol and Retinyl Palmitate are widely used ingredients in skin care products. Retinol is popular in skin care products because the skin naturally converts it to Retinoic Acid, which helps to stimulate collagen production, increase cellular rejuvenation, and decrease pore size, creating softer, smoother skin.

Retinyl Palmitate is considered to be a gentler, milder form of vitamin A and is about 20% less potent than Retinol. It is a better option for those with sensitive skin but it will not stimulate cell turnover in the same dramatic way like Retinoic Acid. ( However, do note that this also depends on the concentration of each product that is used. If Retinyl Palmitate is high in the ingredient list, it can be just as potent as Retinol. ) Studies show that Retinyl Palmitate will plump the skin and increase collagen production. You can read more about it here

Although Retinyl Palmitate has many proven benefits, the Environmental Working Group's Cosmetics Database rates it as a moderate hazard ingredient. It warns of potential side effects including cancer, developmental and reproductive toxicity, violations, restrictions and warnings, cellular level changes, and organ system toxicity. Also, according to FDA scientists, Retinyl Palmitate breaks down in sunlight to photomutagenic compounds, forms free radicals in the presence of UVA and UVB radiation. However, the FDA's final assessment has not yet been made public. You can read about it here

There has been concerns that if you use Vitamin A ingredients on skin, you must avoid the sun as Vitamin A products increase cell turnover and exfoliation, leaving skin more susceptible to damage from UV rays but the article here by a dermatologist refuted those claims.
