A good friend has recommended Dove Nourishing Oil Care Nutri-Oil Serum while we were shopping in Watsons, City Square Mall Johor Bahru. Upon realizing its cheaper than in Singapore, she promptly added a few bottles into her shopping basket, and of course I added to my purchase too, despite not having been a mainstream hair brand user for awhile.
A 40ml size retails for S$8.90 in Singapore but unfortunately, I can't really remember how much I got it for, in Malaysia.
According to Dove, Coconut Oil and Sweet Almond Oil are chosen because Coconut Oil is high in protein yet has a low molecular weight, allowing it to penetrate the hair shaft and protect it from damage, while Sweet Almond Oil is a vital component of the hair cortex and is known to strengthen the hair fibre.
However, a look at the ingredient list reflects that both Coconut Oil and Almond Oil are right down at the bottom of the list which meant that the precentage of it is pretty low. There are many "silicones" ingredients on top of the list, so this serum will definitely makes your hair feel smoother and almost silky-like. For those who are allergic to "silicones", you may not want to consider this product.
Housed in a clear bottle, the serum is dispensed through a tiny nozzle. I usually use 3 to 5 pumps for my long tresses, where I will apply it from the middle to the bottom of my hair shaft. Somehow, I always like to apply serum on dry hair where results are more visible.
On damp hair, I felt that the Dove Nourishing Oil Care Nutri-Oil Serum doesn't make much difference. But on clean dry hair, the serum makes my hair so much smoother, softer and easier to manage. There is no stickiness or greasiness despite it being an oil.
The sweet scent adds a fragrance to the hair while the lightweight texture of the oil acts like a "tamer" to my frizziness.
According to Her World, you can also use it like a pre-wash treatment where you apply it to your damp hair and leave it for 10 minutes before washing it off. It acts like an oil cleansing component of the skincare ritual where the lipids will lift away styling gunk for fuller penetration of the goodness from your treatment shampoo. Another way, is to add the oil in your conditioner to make it like a conditioning rinse-off hair mask.
