Review : Naruko Brightening and Firming Spray

Product Description
Naruko Magnolia Brightening and Firming Spray not only can act as a moisturizer for daily use, it is also a product you can take along with you anywhere. This product can inhibit the production of melanin, help with spots and prevent aging skin. In particular, the form it comes in, a spray, will not affect your makeup in any way. It provides you with an easy, light, and fragrant moisturizer you can use anytime.

Key Ingredients
Plantain Extract Complex, Phytoferulin®, Magnolia Pure Gel, Hyaluronic Acid, Tranexamic Acid

I picked this up from the local Watsons at $21.90 sometime back and have been using this for the past 3 months though not at a daily basis.
It comes in a white clear bottle as shown in the picture above, with a spray that provides a fine mist to deliver its contents. It is touted to provide hydration and deliver whitening nutrients. Lightens the complexion while energizing, balancing and soothing the skin.

Formulated with vitamins and patented Phytoferulin complex as well as other healing herbs, it effectively brightens your look and prevents the creation of hyper-pigmentation.
I thought the name sounds misleading as the description on the bottle did not provide any inkling of having any firming effects but rather, on hydration and whitening effects.

I wasn't overly impressed during the initial month of usage, hence I stopped using it as a daily toner. While I understand that whitening products do take some time for it to take effect, but the fine mist that comes with each spritz would be too little for it to be effective on my skin. In fact, in each mist, I hardly see or feel any visible improvement, either in terms of hydration or whitening.

As recommended on Naruko's website, you can use the product in 2 ways - as a toner mist or as a lotion mask. I prefer to use it as a toner mist because the scent is overpowering for my likes so a lotion mask is an overkill for me.

This face spray is refreshing and feels mild and gentle which may be suitable for all skin types.
The fine mist is slightly tacky but sinks into the skin after a few minutes so I like to use it either as a quick pick-me-up or as a toner. It made the floor sticky as well, which is something I dislike very much. I do not see any hydrating or whitening improvement to my skin though.

Despite not containing parabens, please note that it still contains preservatives like Phenoxyethanol, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate and Methylisothiazolinone.

As with all Naruko products, you can recycle the packaging to something else as shown below.

what a pity, their product contains
Methylisothiazolinone, i read this is a dirty ingredient in goodguide or something.

speaking of skincare, have you thought of buying a cleansing device like clarisonic mia? i heard it deep cleanse and what is your thought on this? seems like a lot really saw better skin improvement after use.

Hi Audrey,
Yes, it is considered as a dirty ingredient - an allergen and irritant as well as affecting the nervous system. :(

According to Paula, it is a preservative that is generally recommended only for use in rinse-off products such as cleansers or shampoos. Among the preservatives used in leave-on products, methylisothiazolinone is known to be sensitizing. Best to avoid for those with sensitive skin.

According to TIA, it seemed that although many connections are made between Methylisothiazolinone and Alzheimer's disease and other conditions, research by CTFA.org and News-Medical.net shows that the concentration levels found in cosmetics and beauty products are so low that there is no risk in using products with this preservative.

Indeed, Clarisonic Mia is highly raved and widely popular but for now, I have not really taken an interest enough for me to purchase it. It reminded me of the difference between a battery-operated toothbrush and a manual toothbrush.
I guess I am still skeptical and probably unable to part with the $ for something that sounds too good to be true. There was a minority of people who suffered worse skin after using it though most of them do give the thumbs up.

Makeupalley scored 4.3 from 758 users.

Do share your take with me, if you have purchased it! I would love to hear your views. :)

Hello Agnes

Happy 2013 to you! Sorry for replying late, was down with flu.

Yes, it's far better to err on the safe side of any dirty dozen in our skincare, why risk right? plus there are so many organic product that is good for our skin these days.

yes me too, i also heard a few not so good cases about cleansing device, but that's for very very sensitive skin.

we know Clarisonic Mia got the "name" under cleansing device..as i googled i also realize there are few others too, like to share my findings with you too

1. Nu face toning device
a partner introduced this to me when i asked what keep her skin so young! so i googled and found a local website sells this:
http://feelbeautiful.com.sg/c/505/nuface
( not sure if the price is justifiable..KIV too)

2. Runve AR999
i never hear about this brand before but after i google i heard many ladies rave about this in flowerpod forum. their posts seems credible since they are not promoting and belong to the senior group of forum member. they said it's availabe in guardian, wow how easy! but price, i wasn't too sure. i will go check it out and see if i can find. maybe in larger store like Ngee ann city.

Runve ar999

REJUVENATOR/405797199

i will let you know when i am confident enough to buy a cleansing device. maybe this date, i am more sure of getting the Clarisonic device with sensitive head. that should be good for our sensitive skin :)

Hey Agnes,

like to share with you, in the end i bought the HABA ION esthe 2 roller , it use the technology of negative ion to cleanse face and has positive ion to penetrate serum deeper. they have promotion with this set, they comes with free 18ml fair lady and a small lift serum. the only pet peeve is the SA told me their device is proven to penetrate their product better but you know we use other product too..so i thought this can equally do well on other skincare since it's the device technology (of course i think SA wants to sell their brand ma..) hope it works, i just bought only! :P

Hi Audrey,
Haba as in the store at Taka basement? I have yet to try their products.
Sure do hope that yours work beautifully! Cheers

Hey Agnes
yes, haba is located at the Taka basement, near the Singtel and precious moment store. that booth near the escalator. it seems many people seem to ignore that slot haha

yesterday i tried their cleansing function over a facial mask..hmm, i didn't feel any "mild heat" which i thought supposed to, perhaps i set to Low. i am monitoring. perhaps it's meant to work silently. after the cleansing motion using the esthe 2, i felt my face somewhat brighter and with better clarity. hmm, but i like to use more to determine results. yesterday it's just my first time using. :P
