Product Description
A Tapir's Tale Baby Protect UV is an ultra-lightweight sunblock that blends well with the skin and has a smooth finish without stickiness. Specially formulated for babies and children, it has added hyaluronic acid to enhance the skin’s natural moisturizing factor. Water-resistant and sweat-proof, this is a gentle sunblock that does not use any ultraviolet absorber. Mild enough for everyday use.
I have been eyeing A Tapir's Tale Baby Protect UV for awhile since it is a mineral sunscreen and caved in when I chanced upon a 20% discount on Motherswork sometime back.
A Tapir's Tale is a homegrown paediatric skincare label that features a range of skincare solutions based on high-quality botanicals and proven skincare actives that are safe, clean and effective. Their products are produced in Japan and free from nasties and additives like colouring, synthetic fragrances, alcohol and parabens.
Packaging, Texture and Scent
A Tapir's Tale Baby Protect UV is a 30ml product, housed in a white tube. It has a runny white milky texture with a slight white cast and a layer of film that felt slightly greasy on my combination skin. There is no fragrance.
The small size makes it travel-friendly and the tube design doesn't leak easily.
How To Use :
1) Shake the container well and take an appropriate amount on a clean palm for use.
2) Quickly apply it to areas needed on the face and body.
3) Reapply after every few hours to prevent sunburn.
Note : Because it is a waterproof type, double cleansing is recommended. If sunscreen gets onto clothes, please wash carefully with detergent and warm water.
Performance and Ingredients
A Tapir's Tale Baby Protect UV SPF30 PA+++ is a mineral sunscreen combining both Zinc and Titanium Dioxide. It protects against both UVA and UVB Rays.
UVA : Long wave ultraviolet A (UVA) rays penetrate deep into the dermis, the skin's thickest layer and causes premature skin aging, wrinkling and dark spots.
UVB : Short wave ultraviolet B (UVB) rays burn the superficial layers of the skin and is the main cause of sunburn and skin cancer.
PA : More + signs mean longer protection against UVA
SPF : Higher numbers mean longer protection against UVB
At SPF30 PA+++, this will not be my top choice if I need to be under the sun the whole day, as SPF50 PA++++ will be much preferred, however, I don't mind wearing it for work, armed with a brolly during lunchtime.
A Tapir's Tale Baby Protect UV SPF30 PA+++ has a slight white cast with a smooth consistency and a subtle oily finishing ( due to Squalane, as confirmed by the brand ), leaving my combination skin looking slightly greasy. It settles down after 5 minutes to a minimal white cast and less shiny face.
As it contains Hyaluronic Acid, this sunscreen does not over-emphasize dry patches although slight flakiness can still be seen.
Unfortunately, using this, on my combination skin in humid climate like Singapore, left an oil seed on my left jaw, which thankfully was extracted during my facial. And because of the oily finishing, I tend to use lesser than what I normally use, which does not provide adequate sunscreen coverage hence I prefer to use on my arms instead.
The key ingredients are....
Squalane : Helps to neutralize damage caused by UV light and lubricates the skin, leaving it feeling comfortable without greasiness
Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid : Hyaluronic acid that has been broken down into elements small enough to penetrate the skin keeping it moisturized
Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract : Suitable for sensitive skin that needs soothing or evening of skin tone
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract : Has cooling and anti-inflammatory properties making it one of the most popular natural remedies for sunburn.
Hydrolyzed Collagen : A popular safe ingredient considered to be an antioxidant and has strong biocompatibility with the skin. It has good moisturizing properties because it acts as a humectant. It enhances the appearance of dry or damaged skin by reducing flaking and restoring suppleness.
