Made in Korea, Lannue skincare products contain Western and Asian ingredients which are carefully curated for optimal balance and effect. The ingredients aim to provide the skin with 4-in-1 action of moisturizing, calming, anti-aging, and brightening.
Packaging, Scent and Texture
Aesthetically pleasing to the eyes, Lannue Sun Cream has a premium vibe with its beige exterior and its textured box packaging. At 50ml, the actual tube looked to be only 50% full, so the tube is larger than it should be, which could be a marketing gimmick. The packaging has since been changed to a slimmer tube at the point of writing.
This sun cream has a floral fragrance with a lovely creamy consistency that applies with a subtle cooling sensation.
How To Use :
Apply a proper amount as the last step in your skincare
Performance and Ingredients
Lannue Waterfull Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ seemed promising at first, with a lovely creamy consistency during application but unfortunately after 3 minutes, the oily sheen sets in, leaving a greasy and shiny appearance on the face.
Due to the oily sheen, I skipped tinted sunscreen and just use Derma E Sun Protection Mineral Powder which helped to minimize the shine and with a highlighter, my skin looked fresh with a naturally dewy glow.
I don't fancy skipping my usual tinted sunscreen as it meant removing an additional layer of sunscreen protection but this is my workaround for this sunscreen on my combination skin type on non-working days.
On working days, I will add tinted sunscreen after this sunscreen, paired with Derma E Sun Protection Mineral Powder or RMS Beauty "Un" Powder for more coverage. The dewy glow is more apparent on optimal well-hydrated skin condition.
That said, my skin turned red after coming back from a morning jog ( with just this sunscreen alone ) before so I would have to monitor further, and will report if there's adverse results.
Lannue Waterfull Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ contains the following 6 UV filters :
Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate : Often listed on sunscreen products as Octinoxate, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate (also called Octyl Methoxycinnamate) is used in products that are applied to the skin to absorb, reflect or scatter UV rays; it protects the skin from sunburn and other damaging effects of the sun. Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate also protects cosmetics and personal care products from deterioration caused by UV rays and allows them to last longer in high UV conditions.
It is a chemical sun blocking agent that absorbs ultraviolet radiation in UVB range.
However, when Octinoxate is exposed to sunlight, "it is converted into a less UV absorbent form hence it is not very stable. This conversion can be partly prevented by certain other UV blockers, particularly bemotrizinol (Tinosorb M). Note that if Octinoxate combined with Avobenzone, it degrades even faster.
According to EWG, Octinoxate is a moderate hazard, primarily because it can lead to developmental and reproductive toxicity through enhanced skin absorption. It can produce estrogen-like effects and should not be used by pregnant women and children.
Octocrylene : It protects the skin against short UVA and long UVB rays, however from this research study, Octocrylene appears to be a strong allergen leading to contact dermatitis in children and mostly photoallergic contact dermatitis in adults with an often-associated history of photoallergy from ketoprofen.
Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine : A broad-spectrum ( full UVA and UVB protection ) chemical sunscreen agent which is also known as Tinosorb S. Hardly deteriorates in the presence of UV.
Ethylhexyl Salicylate : Ethylhexyl Salicylate ( also known as Octyl Salicylate or Octisalate ) is an organic compound used as an ingredient in sunscreens and cosmetics to absorb UVB (ultraviolet) rays from the sun. Although the Cosmetics Ingredient Review notes that reproductive and developmental toxicity can occur in relation to Salicylic Acid, one of the two primary components of Ethylhexyl Salicylate, it has determined that the levels used in cosmetic and beauty products would not cause any adverse reaction. Importantly, the FDA has approved Ethylhexyl Salicylate for use in sunscreen with up to 5% concentration. Ethylhexyl Salicylate receives an EWG hazard rating of 4.
Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane : In the United States, when this ingredient is used in sun protection products, it will be listed on the label as Avobenzone. Avobenzone, when applied to the skin, absorbs UV rays. In addition to causing sunburn, UV radiation is a significant cause of premature aging of the skin and contributes to the development of melanoma and other forms of skin cancer.
According to this source, tests have revealed Avobenzone’s tendency to significantly degrade in light over time, lessening its sun protection capabilities. For this reason, most sunscreens containing the ingredient also include photo-stabilizing ingredients like octocrylene.
Avobenzone appears to be relatively non-toxic and non-irritating to the skin. However, because it is often used in conjunction with photo-stabilizers, there is a greater risk for skin irritation and low-level toxicity. Furthermore, some studies have demonstrated it to be absorbed by the body and secreted into urine, and is therefore not recommended to use on children or pregnant women
Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate : A new generation, chemical sunscreen agent with high UVA protection and high photostability. Also known as Uvinul A Plus.
Water, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Octocrylene, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Butylene Glycol, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, 1,2-Hexanediol, Glycerin, Caprylyl Methicone, Polysorbate 60, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Crataegus Pinnatifida Fruit Extract, Cichorium Intybus (Chicory) Root Extract, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Scrophularia Buergeriana Extract, Salvia Miltiorrhiza Root Extract, Sophora Angustifolia Root Extract, Codonopsis Lanceolata Root Extract, Hydrolyzed Codonopsis Pilosula Root Extract, Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract, Aspergillus Ferment, Bacillus Ferment, Lactobacillus Ferment, Saccharomyces Ferment, Bifida Ferment Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, Origanum Vulgare Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Extract, Ethylhexylglycerin, PEG-100 Stearate, Beeswax, Butyrospermum Parkii(Shea) Butter, Polyacrylate-13, Polyisobutene, Xanthan Gum, Fragrance, Tocopherol , Disodium EDTA, Polysorbate 20, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Sorbitan Isostearate
Conclusion
To conclude, Lannue Waterfull Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ works best on optimal skin condition where it left a dewy glow on skin after makeup. On other days, I prefer to skip my usual tinted sunscreen and instead I am good to go, with just Derma E Sun Protection Mineral Powder and highlighter for that fresh and dewy look.
