While preparing for my brother's wedding in late November, I start searching around for some eye masks as I wanted my undereye areas to be at my best. Stumbled upon Dr. Hu Treatment Eye Masks and promptly purchased both Dr. Hu Bird Nest Peptides Collagen Eye Treatment Mask and Dr. Hu Collagen & Seaweed Eye Treatment Mask.
The eyes are the windows to your soul and the main purpose of under eye patches is to moisturize the delicate skin under the eyes. Skin around the eyes contains less amount of sebaceous glands which makes skin in this area to be prone to dryness and it is also thinner hence, it is delicate and prone to wrinkles and other signs of aging.
Good moisturizing is therefore important but unfortunately, I have yet to find a good eye mask hence my search for that perfect pair of eye masks is always on-going.
Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Debra Jaliman explains that eye masks are loaded with beneficial ingredients, which you place on the periorbital area. While there are tons of eye masks on the market, Dr. Jaliman suggests using ones with ingredients that can tighten and brighten the under-eye area.
Look for ingredients that target puffiness, dark circles, dry skin, and fine lines such as hyaluronic acid, cucumber, peptides, collagen, retinol, and caffeine.
Packaging, Scent and Texture
Dr. Hu Bird Nest Peptides Collagen Eye Treatment Mask comes in 8 Patches + 4 Patches Free as stated on their box. I am assuming that the original set comes with only 8 Eye Patches but has free 4 Eye Patches now. I am not too sure if its a limited time promotion or a marketing gimmick to make you buy.
A box contains 6 individually packed foil which are tightly sealed, so much so that it takes some effort to pull apart the foil. 2 gold patches sit prettily in in the foil. The gold colour looked luxurious and reminded vaguely of Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Mask, Skin Inc Soothe and Purify Black Gold Mask and Petitfee Gold EGF Eye Patch.
The hydrogel patches are jelly and glooey-like and there was an unpleasant weird rubbery scent which I do not like having so near to my nose.
How To Use :
1) After cleaning, remove the eye mask hydrogel film from the foil packaging and gently apply it to the under-eye part
2) Leave it on for 10-15 minutes to achieve the hydration effect
3) Gently remove the eye mask and discard it, then gently pat the eye zone to help the active ingredient to be fully absorbed by the skin.
note : It is recommended to use it once or twice a week.
Performance and Ingredients
Unfortunately, most eye patches do not work and the same goes for Dr. Hu Bird Nest Peptides Collagen Eye Treatment Mask. The jelly-like patches are slippery and slipped down easily on the undereye area. It was an hassle to keep adjusting the patches so its best to lie down which may minimize the movement. I haven't try this method for this box of eye masks as I enjoyed watching my Kdramas while donning my eye patches. :P I am a multi-tasking gal!
There was no difference to my undereye area after 20 minutes of eye masking session. I used it every day for a week and I developed a tiny red bump under my right eye which was entirely my fault since its recommended to only use it twice a week. I can't really fault it since it was never meant to be used it that way.

Conclusion
To conclude, Dr. Hu Bird Nest Peptides Collagen Eye Treatment Mask was a disappointment. Other than the unpleasant rubbery weird scent, it was slippery and one has to re-adjust it every now and then. Adding on, there was no difference at all. Not a repurchase for me.
