I had a big angry zit on my chin during Chinese New Year. It developed after my regular facial at the salon which made me pretty upset. Turned out that there were "3 heads" in the inflammed zit and it took almost a month with another visit to the facial salon, before the inflammed zit subsided.
My brother recommended acne patches which I was aware but never took heed in the past as I thought they were gimmicky but it turned out to be a game-changer. I purchased 3M Nexcare which was what he had tried before.
Pimple patches are made of hydrocolloid, a squishy, plasticky material used in wound healing bandages in hospitals. The material absorbs fluid from a wound, forming a gel that gets trapped in the bandage, turning the area of the bandage white.
Hydrocolloid can help speed healing by keeping the underlying area moist, a key tenet in wound-healing.
Nexcare™ Acne Patch (Thinner) is a drug-free, non-drying way to absorb oil from clogged pores. They work on a variety of skin types, and act as a protective cover, reducing the urge to squeeze or pick at a blemish. Nexcare™ Acne Patch is also breathable and comfortable to wear.
How To Use :
1) Cleanse your face and hands well.
2) Gently pat dry with a clean towel
3) Peel open the plastic pouch.
4) Select a patch which is able to cover the acne and place it centered on the acne opening.
5) Gently press the edges of the patch with clean and dry fingers for better adhesion.
6) Once the colour changes from skin colour to white, it means that the oily secretion has been absorbed. The acne patch should be replaced with a new one.
Tips : Keep unused patches in the plastic pouch and store in a cool, dry place. If you are wearing makeup, apply the acne patch first.
Made in Taiwan, the 30 round acne patches (8mm) for day use are said to be thinner hence more invisible so that you can wear it out but I only wore it at home so far. Each tiny patch is made of a water-based material that acts like a sponge to absorb the oily secretion, fluid or pus.
It also acts as a barrier over the acne to reduce hand contact and infection. The hydrocolloid dressing is waterproof yet breathable to improve healing.

Overall, I am impressed with how it speed up in pushing the pus out to the surface and slowly heal on its own, without any other ingredients.
Do note that as one of the key functions of hydrocolloid dressings is to absorb extra fluid from wound, it naturally follows that hydrocolloid pimple patches are most effective on open and oozing lesions, such as a popped pimple. Cystic acne which forms deep under the skin without an open head requires stronger acne medications than acne patches.

Made in Taiwan, Nexcare™ Acne Patch contains 8mm x 24 round patches and 12mm x 12 round patches which are much welcomed. The larger size fitted my inflamed zit perfectly as it covered it well, compared to the smaller size. Unfortunately, there are only 12 patches and I have used all.
These are slightly more obvious than the Nexcare™ Acne Patch (Thinner) but its not a major issue for me as I mainly use them at home. The effectiveness for both sizes did not appear to differ much, except I like the larger size as it adhered better on my large inflamed zit.
Pimple patch isn't an overnight miracle and on my large inflamed zit, it almost a month to heal, as there were 3 angry "heads" in the zit. However, I did appreciate it helped to flatten the zit gradually after pushing the pus out to the surface. My regular Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Oil didn't work.
