It has been awhile since I last used Mentholatum products so when I chanced upon Mentholatum Sunplay Skin Aqua Tone Up UV Mist at 50% off with a 6-month expiry date, I purchased it.
The Mentholatum Company is a manufacturer and marketer of non-prescription drugs and healthcare products based in USA. The company, privately held for 99 years, was acquired by Rohto Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. of Osaka, Japan in 1988.
Packaging, Scent and Texture
Mentholatum Sunplay Skin Aqua Tone Up UV Mist SPF 50+ PA++++ is a 70g can that dispenses the sunscreen in a mist. Lavender in colour to colour-correct and brighten complexion while enjoying UV protection, this sunscreen mist also comes in a pretty mermaid-inspired packaging.
It has a hint of lavender and alcohol scent with a cooling mist texture.
Since its launch in May 2018, this antioxidant-rich and nutrient-packed sunscreen has been consistently selling out, and has remained as Japan’s favourite sunscreen.
How To Use :
1) Apply the sunscreen evenly over face or body.
2) Reapply regularly especially after sweat or towelling dry to ensure maximum effectiveness.
3) To remove, wash and rinse thoroughly with soap.
Performance and Ingredients
Sunplay Skin Aqua Tone Up UV Mist is an unique lavender-coloured sunscreen that colour-corrects yellowish undertones to bring out skin's translucency while iridescent strobe pearl powder brightens complexion and conceal skin imperfections.
It is infused with Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid and Pure Nuance Complex for clear supple skin.
The Pure Nuance Complex is a trio of fruit extracts that help to improve your skin’s overall appearance. Prune helps suppress skin darkening and inhibits melanin production, Passionflower calms skin and reduces puffiness while Chestnut rose offers impressive anti-aging properties and lessens redness caused by UV damage.
The lavender colour actually comes from a combination of blue and pink tints. Blue imbues a glass-skin translucency while pink gives your complexion a healthy radiance, coming together for a unique lavender hue that also helps to correct yellow undertones.
I hardly ever use sunscreen mist as more of the product often ends up in the air than on our skin. This sub-par application can increase your risk of sunburn and exposure to ultraviolet radiation, however, it serves well as a secondary sunscreen protection on very sunny days and great for the arms and body as the continuous mist makes it an easy application over large surfaces.
Being in a mist, Sunplay Skin Aqua Tone Up UV Mist serves as an easy reapplication for the face and body as it dries instantly to a weightless, matte finish. I use this primarily as a body sunscreen and I mainly spray it all over my arms and hands, and sometimes on my legs too, depending where I am heading to.
Because of the lavender tint color, if you spray it too close to your skin, it will leave a visible tint on your skin; simply blend it well and it will be gone. The mist texture is ultra-fine, lightweight and the powdery feel after-application made skin soft and smooth.
The 70g size isn't alot and I use it up pretty quickly, like within a month, especially since I mist continuously for more sunscreen coverage.
Said to be packed with iridescent strobe pearl particles to diffuse light for brighter luminous complexion and conceal skin imperfections, the effects on me, unfortunately, were negligible.
Do note that the second ingredient is alcohol so take note if you are sensitive to it.

Conclusion
To conclude, Mentholatum Sunplay Skin Aqua Tone Up UV Mist SPF 50+ PA++++ left skin soft and smooth but the contents isn't alot. I prefer to use this as a secondary protection and for the arms and body as it is easy to dispense the mist over large surfaces.
Containing alcohol, it isn't suitable for those who are sensitive to it.
