Review : Shophouse SixtyFive Fort Canning Lip Balm

Product Description
For Canning was once a british fort, now a wonderfully dark garden, tragically beautiful at night. We thought the place suited the flavour of dark vanilla. we used 100% pure Madagascan Vanilla absolute for this, so don't expect a bakery type of vanilla. This one is rather special but subtle. A true soothing vanilla, that is sure to soothe your lips.
Our lipbalms are made with natural beeswax and an assortment of skin loving oils.

I always have a soft spot for local crafted goods and Shophouse SixtyFive caught my eye with its fancy sounding Singapore names. Personally, I thought the lipbalms were alittle pricey, compared to the wide array of lipbalms out there. But I managed to order 2 lipbalms when I chanced upon a promotion several months ago.

At first glance, the Shophouse SixtyFive Fort Canning Lip Balm looked well-made, with its clean, simple no-frills illustration. However, upon further inspection, I noticed that there was no batch code on it, which is normal, if its a handmade gift for a dear friend, but not when it is for retail. I am not sure if its an isolated case, on my 2 lipbalms though. To me, having batch codes are good for traceability and as freshness indicators.

Lipbalms are one of those essential items of mine, especially since I worked in an air-conditioned office for more than 8 hours daily. I usually keep my lipbalm in the bag so that I can whip it up whenever I need it.

However, I think the twist and turn mechanism at the base requires some improvement as it tends to be loose. Each time when I whipped out the lipbalm from my bag, pulled out the cap and will notice that the yellow lipbalm has moved up ever so slightly, which can get a tad messy when it interferes with the cap, leaving unslightly remnants near the cap opening.

The quality of the printing is slightly lower than norm. Its fonts faded or disappeared after some time. For a lipbalm that costs $9.50 a pop, I would expect better quality. Not sure if its an isolated case, but pulling out such a lipbalm from my bag has become slightly embarrassing.

All those aside, Shophouse SixtyFive Fort Canning Lip Balm actually feels moisturising during the initial usage. The balm is pretty soft and gets even softer during application. It smells good and tastes sweet. In fact, my lips look good with a sheen on top, making it looks hydrated and kissable.
However, the balm tends to sit on top of my lips, making it drier with time, leaving slight white flakes
on my lips.

The last 5% balm also came off together with the white base and was stuck in the cap. Not a big issue for me, since I have almost used it up. However, being one of the more expensive lipbalms in the market, it would be good if the quality can justify for its price.
