Kiehl's Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash is a deep cleansing, foaming face cleanser that helps balance normal to oily skin while gently removing impurities without stripping skin of essential moisture. Formulated with renewable Calendula Extract, which contains five compounds known to help relieve visible redness and discomfort, this foaming face wash for oily skin activates with water to create a dense foam that cleanses as it soothes. This sulfate-free face cleanser is gentle, soothing and non-stripping. It is Paraben-free, silicone-free, sulfate-free, alcohol-free and dye-free.
I received Kiehl's Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash together with Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner and Ultra Facial Cream from its PR agency who reached out to me some time back. The response from the PR agency was somewhat lacking but glad that the Ultra Facial Cream was solid and worked pretty well for me ( so well that I purchased it in a larger size but unfortunately, the formulation has been changed ).
Packaging, Scent and Texture
Kiehl's Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash comes in a sturdy 230ml plastic bottle size with a twist-to-unlock pump dispenser. The rich gel formula activates with water to create a creamy dense foam that was drying on my face. Foamy cleansers never work well on my combination with dehydrated surface so it was expected. It has a lovely calming calendula fragrance though.
How To Use :
1) Dampen the face and hands with warm water.
2) Pump the deep cleansing face wash into your hands and work into a lather.
3) Massage the lather onto your skin with a gentle, circular motion.
4) Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry with a soft towel.
Tip: Avoid direct contact with the eyes. If contact occurs, rinse with water.
Performance and Ingredients
Recommended for normal to oily skin type, this deep-cleansing face wash is said to gently lifts away impurities, dirt and oil, deeply cleansing the skin without over drying or stripping. It helps calm and soothe skin, leaving it looking and feeling instantly refreshed and revitalised.
Unfortunately, it didn’t suit my skin. As someone with a tendency toward skin dehydration, I found the foaming sulphate-free formula a little too stripping for my liking. It left my skin feeling tight, which made it hard for me to enjoy the experience. That said, it did left my skin fresh and clean.
That said, this cleanser found its perfect match—my husband! He absolutely loves it and even prefers it over his previous favorite, the Celimax Dual Barrier Cleanser. It works well for his skin type, leaving him feeling refreshed and clean without any discomfort. In fact, he liked it so much that I went ahead and purchased 4 more bottles for him.
While it wasn’t a fit for me, it’s clearly a winner for those with less sensitive or more oil-prone skin types. Definitely worth considering if you're a fan of foaming cleansers with a deep-clean feel.

To conclude, Kiehl's Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash features a rich gel formula that lathers into a creamy, dense foam upon contact with water. While the calming calendula fragrance is lovely, the foamy texture proved too drying for my combination skin with surface dehydration—as expected, since foaming cleansers rarely work well for me. That said, it’s a different story for my husband, who enjoys the refreshing cleanse. If your skin leans more oily or you enjoy a deep-cleansing foam, this might be a great fit.
