Review : Korres Natural Deep Cleansing Mask

deep cleansing mask

Product Description
Deep cleansing mask, rich in white and pink clay, which absorb sebum and remove impurities from pores. Leave on for 10 minutes and rinse off with plenty of water.

At 16ml, the deep cleansing mask costs $3.43euros in Greece. Containing 87.4% natural content, it has a thin runny texture, unlike most deep cleansing clay masks in the market. The mask gives a slight tightening effect during application and skin feels soft and smooth after rinsing off.

Even though it is touted as a deep cleansing mask, I can't say it makes a difference to the sebum level on my combination skin while the blackheads on my nose only appears slightly cleaner but reappear the following day.

Review : Murad Sensitive Skin Soothing Serum

Product Description
Protects and soothes sensitive skin while minimizing redness. Locks in moisture. Helps restore suppleness and resiliency.

Murad Sensitive Skin Soothing Serum was recommended to me when I was at the Murad counter, after I mentioned that I wanted something soothing to reduce my skin redness.

The water-based serum that feels like a lightweight gel texture is dispensed through a pump dispenser. It spreads easily and is slightly sticky on the skin which requires some time for it to get absorbed.

Even though it contains good soothing agents, water-binding agents and antioxidants, it hardly made a difference to my skin. It didn't particularly hydrate my skin or reduce the redness. When I paired it up with MVO Treatment Mist, it made the serum extremely tacky once applied on the skin, hence I prefer to use it right after cleansing and skip the toner.
It is not a product I would repurchase. Shop Murad Sensitive Skin Soothing Serum, Redness Therapy on Amazon

Review : Skinc Pure Deepsea Hydrating Mask

Skin Inc Hydrating Mask
Product Description
This triple-treat gel mask clarifies, hydrates and whitens in one simple step. Replenishing your skin’s moisture with precious deep-sea water – extremely pure and rich in nutrients – from southern Japan, this deeply hydrating mask also combines soy bean extract for brightening the skin and hyaluronic acid for the extra moisture boost. So gentle that it can used around the eye area and left on overnight, daily. The result? Radiant skin that feels plump and dewy soft. 0% Scent and 0% Paraben

At 30ml, the retail price for this mask is $72, too expensive, in my opinion but I managed to snag a deal during Luxola 30% storewide sale. Just wanted to see if the Made In Japan hydrating mask product is really worth the price. You can check out the rest of Skin Inc products here.

Skin Inc is founded by a Singaporean lady, with a vision of using the best and proven ingredients and then ensuring that the ingredient can be delivered fresh and effectively to the skin – to the skin’s deeper layers where it matters the most. Skin Inc products are said to be designed and formulated with zero percent paraben, zero percent scent and zero percent fuss.

With a clean and minimalistic design, the mask is housed in a plastic tub that looks elegant. The 30ml size lasts me for about 2.5 months where I use it as a hydrating mask once a week. It can be layered on the skin for up to 30 minutes or as an overnight mask although with the gel texture, I don't quite like using it as an overnight mask because it doesn't absorb into the skin unlike the conventional overnight mask from Laneige.

The gel texture is thick and glooey-like but without the messiness. It applies easily on the skin but requires slightly more effort to cleanse it off. It claims to whiten and hydrates but I feel that its performance is not on par with its hefty price.

The hydrating mask hydrates moderately well on optimal skin condition but not sufficient on dehydrated skin. In fact, it stings slightly on flakiness. And the whitening capability is hardly visible on my skin. However, I like the soft and supple skin, right after each treatment though the hydration doesn't last well beyond a day. On severely dehydrated skin condition, I will recommend one to use it every day.

Skin Inc Pure Deepsea Hydrating Mask

Ingredients :
Aqua, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Algae Extract, Natto Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Acrylates / C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Potassium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Tetrasodium EDTA

Update 8/5/18 :
A 5ml sample size was part of my purchase set from Tangs Beauty Box, which came in timely, as I was battling with dehydrated skin after a bad cleanser experience. It lasted me 3 times of usages where I used it twice a day and the following morning.

Even though Skinc Pure Deepsea Hydrating Mask is recommended to be layered on skin for 30 minutes but the mask was absorbed into my dehydrated skin within 5 minutes, leaving a tacky left-behind feel. I washed it off after 30 minutes.

It soothe my parched skin and hydrates slightly. There is no stinging sensation or brightening effect. Just a mask suitable for those with optimal skin condition. Not necessarily one which you will reach for, during emergency cases.

Review : Suisse Platinum Line Eye Contour Lift Cream

Eye Cream for stress, fatigue and premature aging

Product Description
The eyes can reveal the first signs of stress, fatigue and premature aging because the skin around the "windows of our soul" is extremely thin and prone to dryness, wrinkles and loss of elasticity from constant muscle movement. This extraordinary eye contour cream with UVA/UVB filters, lifting properties and a Vitamin E-enriched antioxidant and moisturising complex to replenish moisture and resilience. It visibly reduces puffiness and dark circles, offer a firmer and more beautiful look to the eye contour. It is an excellent make-up base.

Benefits :
  • Argieline-Acetyl Hexapeptide-3: relax the muscle, prevent wrinkles formation
  • B.C.C: enhance cell respiration and oxygen content
  • Superior Moisturizing Complex: keep skin tension and moisture.
  • Multi-Protection Complex: anti-oxidants and remove free-radicals
  • Hydrolyzed Rice Bran Extract: reduce dark circles and puffiness.
  • Jojoba Seed Extract: contain high density fatty acid and vitamins
  • Titanium Dioxide: block and reflect UV rays
  • UVA/B Filter: strengthen protection, blocking UV rays

  • The original retail price for this 15ml eye cream is $155 but my mum bought it for $55 when she purchased 2 of them which were about 9 months away from the expiry dates. My dear mum passed one to me, which I have been using for close to 4 months.

Made in Switzerland, Suisse Programme was founded in 1996 by a group of biologists, chemists and cosmetologists aiming at the creation of a new concept in Swiss made skincare treatment products. I had used an eye cream from the brand many years ago but wasn't impressed enough to continue using it then. Many years later, I have a chance to try it again, to see if it works for me.

Housed in a plastic slim bottle where the contents are hidden within an opaque container and the cap is clear, it opens up to reveal a pump dispenser that dispenses the cream in small amounts.

Lightweight in texture, this eye contour lift cream absorbs into the skin easily however, despite the bold claims, I just didn't see any visible improvement in my undereye area, in terms of hydration, reduces puffiness and dark circles.
I didn't like that it contains mineral oil as the second ingredient or that it contains petrolatum. The more beneficial ingredients like jojoba seed extract and wheat germ oil are more to the middle to the bottom of the list. It also contains several nasties or known as the dirty dozen.

Skin Food Watery Berry Ampoule + Essence Mask Sheet

    Skin Food Mask Sheet

    Product Description
A 2-step program that consists of an ampoule and sheet mask. Berry extracts and sodium hyaluronate promote soft glowing skin.

    * Remarkable moisture supply effect
    * Gel type mask of rich moisture effect
    * Penetrates deep for glowing skin
    * Moisture type with a light finish
    * Berry extract and Hyaluronic acid

I requested a friend to get 3 sheets of the mask sheets for me when she was in Korea. It consists of 2 steps where the first step is to tear the 2.5ml sachet as an ampoule essence application.
The essence has a watery gel consistency but is heavily scented. It applies easily on the skin and before it dries up, I am supposed to layer the sheet mask as the 2nd step.

The sheet mask adheres well, with a just-right cutting that fits my face shape. The mask hydrates well but is not recommended to layer it for more than 15 minutes as it will cause your skin to turn drier with a taut feeling.

If used correctly, it hydrates well but doesn't last till the next morning. Shop Skinfood Watery Berry Ampoule + Essence Mask Sheet on Amazon

Review : HABA Point Repair II

    HABA eye cream

    Product Description
This beauty serum is used around the eyes and mouth where wrinkles and fine lines are noticeable. These areas are delicate because of thin skin layers, but cherry leaf extract helps retinol work mildly without irritating the skin. It is rich in moisture, enriched with Squalane and spreads smoothly. Vitamin A, C and E and yeast extract work together to plump up the skin and make fine lines less visible. Remarkable results can be achieved with just a small amount.

    Retinol (Vitamin A Oil):
Retinol is the most common type of vitamin A which promotes resilience to maintain healthy skin.

    Cherry Leaf Extract:
This extract has an excellent anti-inflammatory property. It is often used in skincare products for sensitive skin to alleviate irritation.

    Yeast Extract:
Yeast extract improves skin elasticity and promotes cell proliferation. It is rich in nucleic acid and amino acids.

I was given a complimentary 2g sachet during my last HABA trial pack purchase. It lasts me for about 1 week but did nothing much to my undereye area. It can also be used on the laugh lines near the lips or on areas where there are lines.

It has a lotion consistency which is light on the undereye area and is non-greasy or sticky. However I have yet to see any improvement on the fine lines on my undereye area despite using it for a week.

    Review : Amazing Cosmetics Concealer

    magic-eraser of celebrities

    Product Description
Amazing Concealer is a full coverage, water-proof concealer that makes all skin imperfections disappear. Provides full coverage without the feeling of wearing any makeup at all. Its high-performing, water-resistant technology covers every skin imperfection including: dark circles, broken capillaries, redness, blemishes, sun damage and more.

The favorite of professional makeup artists, celebrities and enthusiasts from around the world, Amazing Concealer is considered the "magic-eraser" that will transform your skin, into amazing skin.

My never-ending quest for better concealers leads me to the much raved-about Amazing Cosmetics Concealer which I bought for $42 from Sephora Singapore early last year.
Available in 20 shades, I picked the one in Fair, with the help of a friend because there was no promoter around then.

Touted to be a complexion-perfection, highly-pigmented formula that gives a natural-looking finish and full coverage for everything from dark circles to blemishes, it seems to cater to my dark circles and eye bags needs but was later advised by another promoter that it is best to look for a less
thicker formula suitable for the undereye area.

Concealer usually takes a long time to be used up because you only need a tiny bit and with this highly pigmented and heavy concealer, it lasts me for slightly more than a year, though I don't use it on a daily basis. For this 6ml product, it is recommended not to use it for more than 12 months, as indicated by the tiny open-cap icon on the back of the concealer.

Housed in a black tiny tube with a twist and turn cap, the size is handy and portable. It makes slipping into bag easy although I don't have a tendency to bring concealers out. The consistency is thick and creamy, just a tad drying which makes blending requiring more effort as well as settling slightly into the fine lines and creases. It is long lasting and is highly pigmented. It helps to minimize the dark circles but not so, for eye bags. Then again, its never easy for eye bags to disappear without a trace.

I don't use it on other areas of the face because my dark circles and eye bags are my most concerned areas, other light blemishes are just secondary.

In terms of ingredients, mineral oil is its first ingredient in the list. There have been controversial theories in the pros and cons of having mineral oil in skincare products.

    According to Livestrong,
“mineral oil coats the skin like plastic wrap, disrupting the skin's natural immune barrier and inhibiting its ability to breathe and absorb the 'natural moisture factor' (moisture and nutrition). In addition, mineral oil attracts needed moisture from cells deep inside your skin. This means that cell renewal is slowed, collagen breaks down, and the connective tissue is destroyed. Normal cell development is slowed down and the skin ages prematurely when skin cells are robbed of moisture."

Paula, on the other hand, feels that mineral oil is definitely safe and good for the skin in her article here.

The product scored 3.7 from 425 users on Makeupalley. Shop Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer Fair (Ultra Light) on Amazon

Review : Lunasol Modeling Water Liquid Foundation SPF17 PA+ (OC01)

    Lunasol Foundation

    Product Description
The incredible succulent texture of this foundation, with approximately 55% water composition, is so lightweight on the skin that it does not even feel like a foundation. Spreads evenly and covers visible pores and rough textures, bestowing resilience and an elegant glow to the skin. Resistant to sweat and sebum and keeps the skin without the signs of dullness, even after hours.
During the previous Kanebo sale, I picked up this 25ml liquid foundation with the lightest shade at OC01 for $25. This is an old product which has since been replaced by other formulations. I am a skincare junkie, not exactly a make-up wannabe so I go through make-up pretty slow.

At only SPF17 PA+, this is just an added bonus but it can never replace your usual suncare protection because SPF17 is barely enough to protect the skin under the scorching sun in Singapore.

This liquid foundation comes in a rectangular-shaped frosty glass bottle, with a rose gold coloured cap ( a reflective surface that is a light fingerprint magnet ) that gives a hint of understated luxury feel. A pump dispenser dispenses the foundation effortlessly without any messiness on the palms though it does pool slightly around the nozzle and inner cap.

I like it for being water-based because most liquid foundation can be pretty drying so when I was at the sale, I was actually looking out for its highly raved water gel foundation but it wasn't on sale, hence this was my next bet.

The range comes in 6 shades where Ocher refers to OC01 to OC4 while Yellow Ocher refers to YO02 and YO03. Ocher is for neutral skin tones and Yellow Ocher is for yellow and olive skin tones.
The promoter chose OC01 for my fair skin and it blends well with my skin tone.

With its water-based formula, you will be glad to know that the formula is not heavy or thick, in fact, it is lightweight and runny. One spritz is just enough for my entire face so one bottle can actually lasts a pretty long while.

It spreads well and dries pretty quickly so you need to blend it fast. It has a sheer to medium coverage with a semi-matte finishing. The oil-control is moderately well for me, I need to blot occasionally though it largely depends on my skin condition at that time, on optimal skin condition, there were times that I don't need to blot my skin at all, despite having a combination skin type.
The liquid foundation is moisturizing enough for me, without the fear of cakiness and the end result is just natural. With a slight brightening effect, it also made my skin tone looks more even.

In terms of ingredients, it has a long list and in it, there are quite a few of the Dirty Dozens like parabens , mineral oil, talc while alcohol is the 4th ingredient in it.

Review : Acure Organics Lemongrass and Argan Oil Firming Body Lotion

    firming body lotion
    Product Description
Skin reluctant to snap back? Feeling baggy and saggy? Snap out of it! This unique antioxidant formula restores buoyancy and stimulates collagen production with firming Gotu Kola Stem Cells, Chlorella Growth Factor, and Resveratrol probiotics. Organic Argan Oil and Cocoa butter replenish needed moisture. Fight back against free radical damage and firm up.

  • Vegan
  • Paraben Free
  • Sulfate Free
  • Cruelty Free
  • Gluten Free
  • No Synthetic Fragrance

  • I heard good things about Acure Organics so I decided to pick up this from Iherb after reading positive reviews about the product.

At 235ml, it is packaged in a tube that made dispensing the lotion easy. The scent smells wonderfully fresh and tangy and the texture is not thick but lightweight yet creamy. It gets absorbed into the skin pretty quickly without leaving any greasy or sticky after-feel and made my skin feels smooth.

In terms of moisturizing, it works well but in terms of firming capability, it isn't that effective as I do not see an improvement in the firming aspect or better toned thighs and bums. You can shop Acure Organics Lemongrass + Moroccan Argan Oil Firming Body Lotion on Amazon or purchase it from Iherb.

Review : Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 45

Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 45 Review

    Product Description
A transparent SPF 45 mineral powder in a convenient brush applicator that works immediately to block out the sun's harmful UVA, UVB, and infrared rays to help prevent sunburn, skin damage, freckling, and discoloration. The light, matte powder gives the complexion a smooth, radiant, youthful look.

I picked up this product last year, during the Sephora 20% sale for $45.60, down from $57. I had wanted to increase my sun protection because I still think that my current daily application of sunscreen and BB cream are insufficient to protect my skin effectively.

This is my first product from Peter Thomas Roth, a brand where they are known for
good formulas with astonishing results, without the unnecessary additives, fillers, perfumes, etc. The man himself leads all research and development efforts to deliver progressive, cutting-edge products in his own lab and production facility. He is said to scour the earth for the best and most powerful ingredients to deliver state of the art quality at effective concentrations.

Since Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 45 is my first sunscreen powder, I prefer to use it as the last layer of application, after my loose powder. It can also be used alone but because it is translucent, I prefer to have my loose powder applied as well.

I read that the product comes in multiple colours - from tinted, which helps even your skin tone, to sheer, which is simply for sun protection but Sephora Singapore only has it in translucent.

Sunscreen mineral powder is easy to use because it is convenient and portable. For this product, you simply pull off the cap, tap lightly to get the powder out, apply on the skin and finally twist, pull the bottom down and replace the cap. It can be used on face, hands and décolleté and reapply after swimming, excessive perspiring, or towel drying.

The translucent finely-milled talc-free powder, dispenses through a retractable brush, feels weightless and has no scent. Just remember to disperse the powder well as there were times where a glob of powder can be found on my skin.

The powder is matte and does not produce any white cast, however contrary to what the description says, it did not give me that radiant and youthful look although that was never my purpose anyway.

Note that, the brush bristles are coarse, scratchy and stiff which is not welcomed on my delicate skin so I just apply with light and quick movements, taking care not to scratch my skin accidentally. It will be better for those bristles to be used on the hands or décolleté though.

The plastic cap is poorly made though as it cracks after several months of usage although I didn't even realize it. Thank goodness, the cap can still be used although the powder could have seeped through the crack when you store it after usage.

Scratchy bristles aside, what I like about such sunscreen mineral powder is that it can be used anytime for immediate sun care protection ( I don't really mention SPF45 because in general, people don't apply that much powder to get the full SPF ), without having to re-apply your make-up.

The usual reminder for all sunscreen protection is to re-apply it every 2 hours but I don't do it because I like to start with a clean base. ( read : clean skin ) and for some people, how do they reapply it on top of their make-up? So this sunscreen powder fills in the gap there.

Lets say, you are going out for lunch under our humid weather, just blot the skin and then touch-up with this sunscreen mineral powder and off you go, with a brolly.

The product scored 2.5 from 20 users on Makeupalley.

I bought this 4.4g lip balm for $3.78euros from Greece late last year. With 98% natural ingredients, the lip balm is contained in a fat balm size with a twist and turn tube. The design looks complicated with words all over and I always pull out the wrong side in the beginning because the words were upside down. ie. if you refer to the above picture, the correct end to pull out should be the black base but if I pulled out where the black base is, the words would be upside down.

Initially, I also wasn't that used to its bulky fat size because most of my lip balms are slim and the diameter of it just glides on my lips perfectly. With this lip balm, I took some time to adjust with the thickness before I get used to it. The scent is unique with a mixture of shea butter and a subtle hint of beeswax.

It has a sloped top to make gliding on the lips easier but with much application on my lips, it has now become a flat shape. The application doesn't feel sticky or tacky too.
However, even though it feels highly moisturizing but somehow it still fails to coat it with the level of nourishment I was expecting, on my flaky lips under the air-conditioned office.

Review : Marie Veronique Organics Treatment Mist

    Face Mist to reduce redness
    Product Description
Anyone with acne- or rosacea-prone skin shouldn’t have to suffer from chronic redness, scarring and hyperpigmentation.
    • Hydrates, calms and soothes inflamed skin without irritating or drying.
    • Redness and inflammation disappear in seconds, leaving you with calmer, brighter skin.

    Key Ingredients
    BioB's™
This proprietary blend of botanicals and B vitamins has been formulated to boost the effects of B3 (niacinamide) and B5 (panthenol). These Vitamin B derivatives are known for their ability to lighten post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and heal scar tissue.
Licorice Root A botanical extract that delivers two important benefits to inflammation-related skin conditions: it’s a powerful anti-inflammatory and it lightens skin and hyperpigmentation by inhibiting melanin production.
n-acetyl Glucosamine A natural derivative of glucosamine that works synergistically with niacinamide (a form of Vitamin B) to significantly reduce the amount and appearance of hyperpigmentation, age spots and uneven melanin distribution.
Containing 96% organic ingredients, no alcohol, no benzoyl peroxide, no synthetic fragrances, witch hazel or other astringents, this treatment mist comes with an option of a cap and a spray dispenser so you get to choose either one, which is a good consideration for those who travel often. It costs US$37 for a 120ml size and is not available in Singapore, so you have to join a spree to get it shipped over because the shipping costs are high if you just get a few items.

Housed in an opaque brown glass bottle, it helps to protect the ingredients in it. The spray dispenser dispenses the contents in a fine mist which I usually prefer to spray it more generously.

The treatment mist has a heavy herbal scent which I am used to it, due to using its cleanser previously. It can be pretty refreshing and uplifting at times, when I am rushing for work in the mornings.
And even though the contents are dark brown in colour, it is not visible on the skin due to its very fine mist. I usually prefer to spray it generously all over my face and pat it to boost circulation and for it to be absorbed easily. I use it like a toner and apply my usual serum and moisturizer thereafter.

My skin has been in an optimal condition for awhile ( due to using Sulwhasoo and Balm Balm Rosehip serum ) and the treatment mist helps to maintain the condition in terms of hydration and anti-redness but on dehydrated skin, it doesn't help much.
And in terms of hyperpigmentation improvement, I will say its not effective on me yet, at least I didn't feel that the slight pigmentation on my cheeks was reduced.

    - Anti dark circles and anti-puffiness action:
Dark circles and puffiness are less visible (ruscus and holly extracts). Eye area looks younger.
    * In vitro / ex vivo on Iimmortelle extracts

I hardly ever use L'occitane products, it just didn't quite appeal to me. Recently, a friend passed me some samples as she is a fan of it. At 1ml, it has provided me with about a week's usage. Formulated with immortelle floral water, this cream is said to soothe, moisturize, nourish, and tone the delicate skin around the eyes.

With a light floral scent, the white lightweight cream has a smooth texture that glides well on the undereye area. Non-oily and non-sticky, it feels soothing and nourishing but a week is too short to see any long term effects for now.

The product scored 2.6 from 114 users on Makeupalley. Shop L'Occitane Immortelle Precious Eye Balm on Amazon.
