Review : Hada Labo UV Moist Emulsion SPF50+ PA+++

Product Description
This is a 3 in 1 sun protection product which offers high sun protection while caring for the skin. It is also known as Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing UV Milk

The 3 in 1 benefits are
- UV Protection
- Hydration
- As a make-up base

After using up Sunplay Water In UV which I bought from Taiwan, I decided to look around for a body sunscreen that is not greasy and sticky as Sunplay Water in UV has been discontinued.

I have heard good reviews on this Hada Labo UV Moist Emulsion so I decided to get it when it was slightly cheaper in JB sometime back. It is touted to be gentle on skin as it is free of artifical ingredients such as fragrances, mineral oil, alcohol and colorant.

I have been using this sunscreen, mainly for the hands ( from arms to wrists ) on a daily basis, before I left for work. I have learnt to be disciplined with body sunscreen ever since I discovered lots of red tiny spots on the arms which are slowly turning to little moles.

Hada Labo range of packaging is minimalistic as you can see from the design in all their products. It comes in a white bottle with a slight shiny surface. Containing a ball bearing in the bottle, it sort of give a gentle reminder for you to shake before use aka a correction tape.
With a squeeze pressure, the runny lotion dispenses from the small tip easily although on most times, I can just tilt the bottle and the contents ooze out easily.

There is a slight sunscreen scent which is hardly detectable unless you put your nose near it. Milky white in colour, the texture of the moist emulsion is runny and fluid-like.
The texture is not as good as my favourite Sunplay UV in Water because its slightly sticky which took some time for it to disappear and its slightly drying as well.

Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate and Zinc Oxide work together to give UVA and UVB protection which are the 3rd and 4th ingredients respectively. However, the 3 types of Hyaluronic Acid are found right at the bottom of the list, which meant that the concentration levels are quite low.

It scored 4 from 4 users on Makeupalley.

Review : Naruko Rose and Botanic HA Aqua Cubic Hydrating Mask

Review for Naruko Rose and Botanic HA Aqua Cubic Hydrating Mask

Product Description
The Rose and Botanic HA Aqua Cubic Hydrating Mask is a mask that can help lock the moisture in to keep your face hydrated 24hours a day. It also helps to brighten, soothe, and improve the skin's overall condition.

Specially made with CE booster to improve your skin's overall condition. It helps with skin's absorbance, increases metabolism, and allows the skin to quickly absorb Hyaluronic Acid, Snow Fungus Extract, and Allantoin. All worked together to provide your skin with 24-hour moisture.
It is also created with 3 natural rose extracts ( Silk Rose extract, One Hundred Petal Rose extract and Bulgarian Rose extract ) where the nutrients work with Vitamin A and Vitamin C to provide long lasting moisture while nourishing, repairing and providing an anti-aging effect. It forms an invisible barrier on top of the skin so that it will not feel dry.

I have high expectations from Naruko products, since the skincare guru, Niu-er is behind the brand. Sadly, this box of hydrating sheet masks just failed to deliver from the first sheet, right to the last sheet. 10 chances used up and I am still not impressed with it.

The sheet masks are individually packed in a box, where the box can be recycled into something useful as shown here.

The sheet mask is thin and very wet. Although it layered well on the skin, it does not adhere snugly and the sheet near the jaws just keep coming off so its best to lie on bed as you wear the mask. It has a subtle rose scent.
The fit is slightly larger with the nose area being longer and the area near the lips is small where it almost touch my lips. Not exactly a comfortable fit.

Even though its recommended to be used for up to 20minutes, I used the mask for 30minutes since its still pretty wet but it left my skin taut and drying after removal.
For subsequent facial masks, I reduced the usage to 20minutes and even to 15minutes but still, it left the skin tight, especially the cheeks.

I do find it ridiculous that instead of being hydrated, my skin feels so much tighter that its in need of a moisturiser badly. Then why is the mask known as hydrating in the first place?

If you are interested to try it out, you can purchase a box from Amazon. They are pretty affordable to be used as daily maintenance without breaking the bank.

Shiseido Maquillage Nail Color RS722 with Kanebo Coffret Dor Jewelight Nail Color PK153

I purchased both nail polishes at different times from Adambeauty several months ago. I wasn't too keen on Maquillage RS722 when I tried it because the colour was too dull for my liking.
However, recently on a whim, I decided to layer it with Coffret D'or PK153 and that made a big difference. In fact, I really like how the glitters from PK153 are set against RS722. A very sweet feminine match in heaven.

One layer of RS722 that is easy to apply without much smudges. The light rose pink colour has a runny texture that applies easily with its dense brush.

Addition of the next layer with PK153.
PK153 has lots of glitter that adheres well on the nails without being messy. Even after 2 days of wear, there is no chip at all.

Kanebo Coffret D'or Jewelight Nail Color PK153 US$8.50
Shiseido Maquillage Nail Color RS722 HK$59

Removing it with a nail polish remover is slightly tougher than removing the normal nail polishes without the glitter. I literally used up 4 cotton pads for both hands. Then again, I am an klutz when it comes in nail polish.

Makeup Tricks That Erase The Years

As you get older, however, your makeup needs evolve. Fine lines, sagging, and increasing dryness mean old favorites may not refresh like they used to--and can even exaggerate signs of age.

Creamy Concealer
After 40, skin loses elasticity and thins, which can make you look tired and allow blood vessels to show through, heightening discoloration. Concealer lightens dark circles, gives lids the appearance of a lift, and provides an overall glow.
- choose the right hue
- apply it using a small-headed concealer brush, apply a dab along the lower lashes to the innermost corner of eyes and the hollows of the nose. You can also use your ring finger, which has a naturally light touch and added warmth to tap and gently blend
- set it in place with loose powder

Hydrating Foundation
Foundation is key because it addresses three of the most common age-related issues--fine lines, sagging skin, and sun spots--in one fell swoop. Creamy formulas moisturize, plumping up droopy skin and evening out tone. Avoid anything powdery or matte, which makes wrinkles more pronounced.
- choose the right hue
- pat a small amount to areas that need evening out (red spots or blemishes) with a makeup wedge, foundation brush, or fingertip. Blend upward and diffuse out toward your hairline for the most natural effect. Don't go overboard--it will just cake.
- If your skin is on the oily side, finish with a light coat of loose face powder on your forehead, nose, and chin (apply with a blush brush or velour puff) to lock foundation and smooth texture.

Rosy Lip Color
Lips can lose color with age and become more prone to dryness. Ultrabright colors with heavy pigments are wrong at this stage; pick sheer lipsticks and glosses instead to hydrate and add sheen, which helps lips look fuller. Natural-but-better shades, like rose and pinky beige, also mitigate the appearance of fine lines by reflecting light.
- pinky brown, nude, beige pink, rosy brown, and blackberry are universally flattering
- to prevent color from seeping into pesky vertical lines, use a lip pencil that matches your lipstick; line the natural border of your top lip (pay special attention to its V shape) and underneath your lower lip. For fullness, fill in the entire border of your lips.
- use a lip brush to apply; the synthetic fibers help lipstick or gloss adhere and fill in lines like putty. Blend from corner to corner, and press your lips together to seal in the shade
- for added sheen and fullness, dab your lipstick with clear gloss in the center of your mouth.

Lighten Up
Tinted moisturizers with luminescent particles or lightweight liquid foundations are best for skin with lines. Unlike pressed powder, which settles into wrinkles making skin look older, a light-reflective liquid formula creates the illusion of a glowing complexion.

Blur The Edges
As we age, perfectly drawn eyeliner starts looking more dour than dramatic. Rimming lids with an eye pencil will define the eyes and appear to plump lashes, but always smudge the line a bit for a more flattering, soft-focus effect.

Stick to creamy blushes and shadows
Older skin can mean dry skin, so creamy blushes and shadows are your best bet. Powder blushes and shadows tend to settle into fine lines and wrinkles, while creamier products "plump" skin.

Don't go skinny on the eyebrows
Don't get too pluck-happy when tweezing your brows. The higher the arch doesn't mean more years are taken away. Once you hit your 30s, you'll want to be especially careful not to over-pluck eyebrows, as they are less apt to grow back when excessively plucked.

Sunburn Remedies via Food

Potatos

- Potato's starchy compounds will help take the sting out of sunburn
- Cut a raw potato into slices and rub a piece on your most painful sunburned spots. For a more intensive treatment, grate a cold raw potato and apply it as a poultice.

Oatmeal
- Grind up a cup of oatmeal in a food processor, add it to cool bathwater and soak. You can also wrap dry oatmeal in cheesecloth or gauze, run cool water through it and then toss the oatmeal and soak compressess in the liquid, applying every 2 to 4 hours.

Pomegranate
- Pomegranates are a rich source of ellagic acid, which can help protect your skin from UVA- and UVB-induced cell damage

Strawberries
- The berries' tannin content helps reduce the sting of a sunburn.
- Mash a few ripened strawberries and slather on sunburns for natural relief. Rinse off after a few minutes. Or make a paste out of cornstarch and water and slather it over sunburned skin for relief

Cucumbers
- Cucumbers offer sunburn relief on par with store-bought sunburn-relief products, without added with chemical preservatives and harmful fragrances
- Mash a cucumber and apply it to your skin
- Grab an organic cucumber, peel and chop, and then squeeze the juice. Mix it with glycerin and rosewater for protection from the sun.

Guava
- An antioxidant-rich diet could help prep your skin for more potent sun protection before you even step foot outside. One guava contains about five times the amount of vitamin C, a skin-healing antioxidant, as a medium-sized orange.

White Vinegar
- White vinegar's acetic acid acts like a topical nonsterioidal anti-inflammatory drug
- If you're red (just not blistered), dab a bit of distilled white vinegar onto your sunburn. It will kill the pain for about 20 minutes

Tomatoes
- 25 percent more natural protection against sunburn.

Calendula
- This easy-to-grow plant is packed with anti-inflammatory properties that ease burns, including sunburn.
- Make a poultice of calendula blossoms and apply to sunburn to help accelerate healing.

Aloe
- Break off a leaf and apply the juice to your sunburned skin.

Lettuce
- Lettuce's natural pain-killing properties can help wipe away sunburn pain
- Boil lettuce leaves in water. Strain, then let the liquid cool for several hours in the refrigerator. Once chilled, dip cotton balls into the lettuce water and gently wipe over irritated skin.
Fat Free Milk
- The milk creates a protein film on your skin that will help ease the discomfort of fresh sunburn.
- Apply cool, not cold, milk to your skin using a clean cloth or gauze. Apply compresses for 15 to 20 minutes, and repeat every 2 to 4 hours.

  • Removes heavy metals
  • Increases collagen in the skin
  • Reduces skin damage caused by free radicals

Review : L'oreal Total Repair 5 Hair Mask

    Product Description
Damaged Hair can lack the natural cement which keeps the hair strong and resilient. To ensure cohesion and strength, the l'Oreal laboratories have created ceramide cement technology to replace the hair's natural cement, targetting the 5 problems.

    1. Hair fall
    2.Dryness
    3.Roughness
    4.Dullness
    5.Split ends

    Benefits :
    1. Repairs: the hair fibres, the hair structure is re-enforced and hair regains strength like new
    2. Transforms: the hair surface to a regular and smooth condition 2 minute intensive repairing power of the masque for hair that is as if totally repaired

I picked up a box of 5 sachets from Watsons in Johor Bahru some time back this year. Surprisingly, its not found on our local shores. I have not been using Loreal products for a while as it always seemed abit over-rated for the performance it delivers.

Each sachet can lasts me for about 3 times of usages from shoulder to bra-length hair. I used it like a conditioner, coated my hair with it and allow it to penetrate it for the next 3 to 5 minutes and skipped my regular conditioner whenever I am using this.

I hardly ever use hair masks because most hair masks in the market require you to have it on the hair for at least 10 to 20minutes which I can hardly keep to. This deep repair hair mask only requires about 2 minutes for it to weave its magic, on washed or towel-dried hair.

It is difficult to open the sachet, even with the slit available. A pair of scissors will do a better job.
The texture of the white coloured hair masque is thick and concentrated. Each time I opened a sachet, I used it for 3 days because using the whole sachet on the hair seemed to be abit overdosed. Thereafter, I stopped for a few days before resuming the cycle again.

During the initial phase, it made my hair really soft and silky. Even my bad tangled hair was detangled beautifully. But after the 2nd sachet, the magic was gone.
Even though the hair did feel soft and the tangled hair ends were detangled on most of the times ( read : not every time ), the performance seemed on par with a good conditioner, considering that this is a deep repair hair mask.

Hair Fall - I have a normal hair-fall rate. While using this hair masque, I did not notice a significant improvement to the hair fall.
Dryness - The hair masque did nourish the hair but a good conditioner can do a good job as well.
Roughness - This hair masque made the hair soft and silky initially and maintained the softness throughout the usage of the 5 sachets
Dullness - My hair does appear to have more vitality and vibrant, compared to not using the hair masque.
Split Ends - My split-end condition is manageable at this point, so I can hardly see a significant improvement to it.

Review : Genaya Aloe After-Sun Soothing Silk Ice Film

    Product Description
Genaya Aloe After-sun Soothing Silk Ice Film is the best combination of the finest silk and latest US technology. This ultra-thin and breathable full-face mask is lightweight and durable, offering a superior fit, seal and comfort to the face, allowing all the ingredients to be absorbed into the skin. Speically formulated with Aloe Vera extract from Africa, the various bioactive elements in Aloe Vera can penetrate into skin, tighten skin and provide collagen protein and moisture. It provides rich minerals and microelements to replenish skin after sun damage, keeping our skin looking soft, bright and smooth.

This sheet mask was part of the August Glamabox goodies, retailing at $20 per box of 5 pieces. I am not familiar with the brand as I have not heard of it before.

I used the one and only sheet mask after coming back from Sentosa and no, its not all about beach volleyball and stuff, but a flea market with friends. Even though its under a sheltered tentage but the weather was horrible. Humid, sweaty and sticky. I still do walk under the hot sun every now and then, so I thought applying this mask was just the perfect job waiting to be done.

Made of DuPont high-tech elastic fabric mask material, the thin, soft and almost sheer texture adhere well to the skin. It has a refreshing minty scent which feels fresh and cooling on the skin. Containing Aloe Vera extract and multiple nutrients, it is touted to repair the skin by adding moisture and nutrients lost due to the sun.

Skin feels supple and smooth to the touch as well as being slightly brighter.

Review : Garden of Wisdom Skin Friendly Cleanser

    Product Description
This cleanser contains two of the mildest surfactants for those who want a sudsing cleanser. It contains no SLS or SLES or harsh detergents of any kind. Developed for sensitive, fragile skin. Cleansing and moisturizing, it soothes and refreshes with orange essential oil.

    List of Ingredients

    Decyl Polyglucoside

    - non ionic surfactant
    - mild to skin
    Lauryl Glucoside
    - gentle, coconut derived skin friendly cleanser
    Seaweed Extract

    - conditions
    - hydrates
    Orange Essential Oil

    - very high in Vitamin C
    - helps to protect skin
    - antibacterial
    Optiphen
    - broad spectrum paraben free preservative

This is a light gel cleanser, yellow in colour, that turned quite runny upon contact with water. It has a citrus musty scent which I was not used to, initially but has grown accustomed to it. It suds slightly and is gentle for everyday usage.

Meant to be used as both a day and night cleanser, I realized that it is best used as a morning cleanser. When I used it as a night cleanser, after removing make-up, this cleanser left my skin taut and I have to follow up with a hydrating mask.

If I used it as a morning cleanser, it left my skin soft, smooth and supple. However, there were times that it left my skin slightly red around my nose.

It scored 3.5 from 4 users on Makeupalley.

    September Glamabox

This will be my last Glamabox as I have decided to end my subscription with them. Just too many products and samples lying around, waiting to be used. I need to use them up, before new ones come in again.

Here's what I received this month which came 1 week earlier than the last 2 months.
    1) The Body Shop Natrulift Firming Serum ( 1.5ml x 5 sachets)
    2) Infusens Absolute Moisturizing Concentrate 4ml
    3) Louvier DNA Silk Mask
    4) Bach Rescue Remedy Pastilles ( 4 pastilles)
    5) Laneige Special Treatment Water Sleeping Pack_EX 20ml
    6) Tebe Body Moisturising Milk 50ml

I believe most people would be able to get their hands on TBS samples from the stores. I have never try before, but my friend does. And who needs sweets from a Beauty Subscription Box?
A pity that I already owned some sachets of the Water Sleeping Pack, it would be good if its a BB cream from Laneige. I love trying out new BB Creams. And I don't need yet another body cream since I am not a body lotion fan.
Still, I think this month's Glamabox is better than this month's Bellabox.

I am so glad that I have terminated my subscription with Bellabox after 2 months because from what I have read online, the products were pretty bad and not impressive enough for this month.

Review : Silk Timeless Truth Organic Silk Fibre Elixir Mask

    Product Description
An anti-aging treatment with high performing star ingredients, Timeless Truth Organic Silk Fiber Elixir Mask nourishes your skin with brightening and hydrating elements such as Organic Bear berry and Organic Algae. With Organic Eyebright stimulate cell regeneration, improving the quality of skin's collagen and elastin fibers. Using the most delicate silk fiber cloth fits perfectly the curves of the face and helps to improve the organic serum and natural silk fiber cloth to bond within the skin to create a film supportive network. It not only immediately brightens skin tone but also continuously lightens skin beneath layers all night long to give you lasting translucent fairness. Effectively controls the formation of melanin and reduces the dark pigments on face. You will find your skin rejuvenated, hydrated, looking youthful with a radiant glow after application.

I received a sheet mask from the brand, as part of the August Glamabox. Its not a brand I am familiar as prior to the beauty subscription box, I have never heard of it.
Still the name sounds enticing, almost like something soft and cuddly, that is luxurious youth for the skin and face.

Well, how wrong and misleading it was! Because of all the lovely images conjured in my brain, it was quite a disappointment to find out that what I thought is so different from the real stuff.

The fitting of the mask is poor, with their so-called natural silk fiber cloth. There is a protective plastic layer which is jointed to the thin fiber cloth so you have to take note and use the correct side.
The mask felt like it could peel off anytime because it does not adhere so well to the skin. The cut-outs are tiny, especially at the lips area. Its so ridiculous!

Purported to provide nourishment to the skin, I felt let down because I hardly felt and see any visible hydration, brightening and youthful look to the skin.

Review : Leaders Clinic Vita White Beam Essential Mask

Review for Leaders Clinic Vita White Beam Essential Mask

    Product Description
Leaders Clinic Vita Whitebeam Essential Mask is enriched with Whitebeam, Vitamin C and E which offers groundbreaking effect in diminishing melamine, dark spot and freckles, leaving your skin look luminous and radiant!

    Benefits :
    - Brightens complexion with Vitamin C derivative, tocopherol and y-oryzanol
    - Controls the formation of melanin
    - Lightens dark spots or pigmentation
    - Evens skin tone effeciently
    - Dermatology tested and even suitable for sensitive skin

The 2 sheet masks I owned, retails for $2 each in Watsons. As the name implies, this mask is for whitening and brightening purposes. I have previously used their Collagen, NMF Aquaring, Whitelux Ampoule Mask and Caviar Repairing masks.

Made of Silk Cellulose material, it is supposed to adhere to the skin very well. And it does that very well, indeed. It stays well on the skin without any peeling and while it does provide a slight hydration factor to the skin, there was no visible brightening effect.

If you layered it on the skin for more than the stipulated time of 20minutes, the skin will feel tight. I had it on for 30minutes since the mask is still pretty wet but the immediate reaction to the skin is a taut feeling. The mask is absorbing the moisture from the skin!

Definitely not something I would repurchase.

Review : 100% Pure Cabernet Grape Body Scrub

    Product Description
100% Natural, 100% Vegan, Gluten free
Delicious Cabernet Grape body scrub instantly makes your skin soft, smooth, healthy, glowing and vibrant. Highly concentrated with skin nourishing ingredients and powerful anti-aging antioxidants and vitamins. Organic rosehip and apricot oils deeply moisturize and nourish. Truly, 100% Pure- no synthetic chemicals, no artificial fragrances, no preservatives, no alcohol or any other toxins.

Containing much antioxidants ingredients, I know I am using good stuff when I am using this scrub thrice a week. The scent reminds me vaguely of drinking wine though I am not a wine-person. Its very sweet and overpowering at times.

The tub is huge and last me for several months. It is a mixture of sugar crystals with oils and the oils are mainly found at the bottom.
You need to scoop the right ratio of contents in order to get a less coarser scrub. The texture seemed fine but the sugar crystals can appear to be coarse at times, when you used it on dry skin or on under-moisturised skin or just the incorrect ratio of oils to crystals.

As you can see from the ingredient list, there are much oils in them, so its natural that your body may have a film of moisturisng veil on the skin after the scrub. Even my soles were slippery after using it.
I tend to wear bedroom slippers after using this, to avoid having oily stains on the floor.

    Ingredients:
Saccharum Officinarum Extract (Evaporated Cane Juice), Punica Granatum (Pomegranate Seed Oil), Euterpe Oleracea Pulp (Acai) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grapeseed) Oil, Prunus Ameriaca Fruit (Apricot) Oil, Extracts of Vitis Vinifera Fruit (Cabernet Grape), Calendula Officinalis Flower (Calendula), Opuntia Tuna Fruit (Prickly Pear), Punica Granatum (Pomegranate), Euterpe Oleracea Fruit (Acai Berry), Lycium Barbarum Fruit (Goji Berry), Morinda Citrifolia Fruit (Noni), Aristotelia Chilensis (Maqui Berry), Sambucus Canadensis (Elderberry), Rubus Fruticosus Fruit (Blackberry), Organic Rubus Idaeus Fruit (Raspberry)1, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed and Lonicera Caprifolium (Japanese Honeysuckle)

Review : Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact - Rose

    Product Description
This shimmering, brush-on powder creates a soft, rosy glow. Works well with neutral, pink and rose blush shades.

    What it is:
Five bars of pure pearl color for shimmering lids and glowing cheeks.

    What it does:
This shimmering, brush-on powder is handmade in Italy and creates a soft, rosy glow. It works well with neutral, pink, and rose blush shades.

    To apply:
Sweep the Face Blender Brush through all five shades of Shimmer Brick Compact and dust lightly on cheekbones after blush. Focus on applying shimmer on the top of cheekbones - where light naturally hits the face - for the most flattering look.
To add a highlight to eyes, apply the lightest shade in the compact just under brow bone with fingertips or the Eye Smudge Brush.

This blush has been in my stash for some time, which I picked up from Strawberrynet at a steal. Some people have questioned the authencity of their products but thankfully, so far, everything has been fine with my purchased products.

Bobbi Brown is famed for their Shimmer Brick Compact for years and I am glad to have a chance to own them. The packaging comes in a black squarish and thick compact that is not very travel-friendly. I still bring it out at times, but not very often. The mirror is useful for touch-up but the hassle of bringing a brush dampens my mood, hence I prefer to use it at home before leaving the house.

I am not sure if its just my product, but it has a musty weird scent when I took a close sniff. And the life span of the blush is 6 months once opened which is kind of  silly when I can hardly made a significant dent even if I do use it every day. For a product that is so expensive, 6 months just does not justify the price.

I don't wear blush on a regular basis so I can never finish them. This Shimmerbrick in rose is supposed to be layered on top of your regular blush but I tend to use it as a blush itself. Shimmers are apparent if you apply too much. I don't like to use it with a heavy-hand because the shimmers can get pretty glowy against my fair skin.

With a light hand, it goes on smoothly, blends well and gives a subtle glowy, radiant look.
However, if you have unslightly large pores, I think its best to skip this. The shimmers tend to emphasize on those imperfections.

I usually just swirl my brush in the graduation of colours, skipping the white in it.
Just couldn't understand how I can use the white together with the rest. And I have other better products to be used as my highlighter on the face.

This product scored 4.1 from 122 users on Makeupalley.

This weightless Spf 30 tinted skin perfecting gel instantly evens out skin tone and cuts out discolorations. Sheer pigments blend seamlessly into skin with a color adapting effect, leaving a flawless, invisible, no show finish.
Vitamins A and E impart a burst of refreshing and protecting hydration which immediately soothes and smoothes skin. Broad spectrum skin protection shields from damaging and aging UV rays as you watch your skin tone magically improve, creating the ultimate canvas for the rest of your POP makeup! Oil Free. SPF 30.

This product, which was an impromptu purchase overseas have been residing in my drawer for some time, before I whipped it out for some tinted coverage due to my seborrheic dermatitis condition some months ago. It retails at US$24.
I have been turning to this product because I wanted a light coverage without emphasizing on the flakiness on the skin. My usual BB cream from Etude House and Estee Lauder Hydrating Liquid Foundation have a thicker texture which worsen the look of my skin condition during that difficult period.

This nifty slim tube is convenient and easy to lug in the bag, with a sweet girly pink colour on the packaging. The squeeze dispenser also make it a breeze to get the contents out as well as being hygenic. I picked 01 Neutralize which is recommended for fair skin tones.

Their claim : Use neutralize on fair to medium skin tones to minimize red and blue undertones and to brighten complexion and to give it a touch of warmth. Finish off with concealer for an envy-creating skin canvas!

It has a runny consistency and goes on sheer to the skin and blends in so well that its almost non-existent. Its very sheer so it does not provide much coverage but helps to even out the skin tone and gives it a healthier colour to dull skin.
It has a heavy sunblock scent, commonly found in Banana Boat sunblock range. I do not quite fancy that scent. lol

Its hydrating and oil-controlling abilities are moderately well but nothing spectacular to boot.
I use this when I am rushing for time, when I want a lighter coverage ( set it with loose powder ) or just spending a short day outside.

While it has a good SPF factor of 30 which protects against UVB ( B for burning ) however it has a poor protection against UVA ( A for aging ). UVA rays trigger deeper connective-tissue damage (including skin cancer and the wrinkles and sunspots associated with premature aging). In addition, there are two kinds of skin-damaging UVA rays – short and long. UVA rays are longer (320 to 400 nanometers) and penetrate the skin at deeper levels, causing long-term damage associated with signs of aging and skin cancer. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, these rays are "present with relatively equal intensity during all daylight hours throughout the year, and can penetrate clouds and glass." UVB rays, on the other hand, are shorter (290 to 320 nanometers) and are responsible for visible damage to the skin in the form of sunburns. A good SPF sunscreen should protect users from both UVA and UVB rays. The best formulas should contain broad-spectrum chemical or physical sunscreens or a combination of the two.

Physical sunscreens are made with minerals (titanium dioxide and zinc oxide) that form a natural, protective layer on the skin that blocks the sun's harmful rays. Chemical sunscreens (avobenzone, Mexoryl SX and Tinosorb) absorb UV rays. It's important to note that some chemical SPF sunscreens, including the commonly used oxybenzone, can protect only against a portion of UVA waves (those in the lower end of the UVA spectrum). Many sunscreens contain oxybenzone, but they don't contain anything to protect against long-wave UVA. By including oxybenzone, companies are allowed to say their product protects against UVA, but unless it also contains avobenzone, zinc oxide, titanium dioxide or Mexoryl SX, experts say users are not optimally protected against long-wave UVA rays

That said, you have to be forewarned of what this product contains in the list of ingredients. Some people are neutral to them while some people may be concerned about it. I have not been using it since I recovered from my skin condition.

This product contains a high percentage of Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate (7%), Ethylhexyl Salicylate (4%) and Benzophenone-3 (4%) as part of the sunscreen ingredients, however according to EWG,  these active ingredients are known to cause allergies/immunotoxicity and ecotoxicology with Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate and Benzopheone-3 causing further developmental/reproductive toxicity and organ system toxicity.

Benzophenone-3 which is also known as Oxybenzone has a high hazard of 7 according to EWG, which is a sunscreen ingredient associated with photoallergic reactions as it absorbs through the skin in significant amounts.
Acting primarily as a photostabilizer and sunscreen, it is classified as a "chemical" sunscreen agent which is inadequate when used alone. Benzophenone-3 absorbs UVB and short UVA rays but is a relatively weak chemical UV absorber. By absorbing UV rays, it also helps preserve the integrity of other cosmetic ingredients, preventing their deterioration under the sun.

Benzophenone-3 has demonstrated an increase in the production of harmful free radicals and an ability to attack DNA cells. For this reason, it is believed to be a contributing factor in the recent rise of Melanoma cases with sunscreen users. Some studies have shown it to behave similarly to the hormone estrogen, suggesting that it may cause breast cancer. It has also been linked to contact eczema and allergies.
Absorption is also high in humans as studies seemed to have shown that urine samples of individuals with application of 4% usage for 5 days were found to contain them.

On the other hand, you may want to take note that the FDA has approved the use of Benzophenone-3 as a safe and effective OTC sunscreen ingredient, but only in concentrations up to 6%. The EU Cosmetics Directive has also assessed the sunscreen ingredient as safe at up to concentrations of 10%, and requires products that contain more than .5% of the ingredient to be labeled "contains Oxybenzone." Retinyl palminate is another ingredient with a higher hazard rating of 8 by EWG which is known to cause cancer, Developmental/reproductive toxicity and Organ system toxicity.
This type of Vitamin A has been linked to increase the risk of skin cancer on sun exposed skin in lab studies performed by EWG. You can read about the rest of the ingredients ranked by EWG here .

In terms of both Benzophenone-3 and Retinyl Palminate as dangerous ingredients to humans, dermatologists provided their take that its not neccessarily so. You can read more about it here, here and here.

Review : Holika Holika Super Retino Collagen Eye Mask

    Product Description
Contains adenosine, retinol and collagen which make the skin tight. Adenosine restores your body's ability to produce collagen and elastin in the skin. Retinol stimulates cell regeneration and build collagen to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. Additionally, they help minimize the appearance of pore size, while correcting blemishes and blotchiness often associated with problematic skin.

    Benefits:
    • Tightens
    • Wrinkle Improvement
    • Minimizes pore size

This is my very first product from the brand. A friend's friend helped to haul some skincare products from Korea and I purchased 2 eye mask sheets from this range. I am not sure of its new location in Wisma Atria now as it has moved out of its original premises some time back.

Holika Holika is a relatively new brand founded in March 2010. You can read more about its background here. The product range in Singapore is not as wide as Korea though. You can check out the whole product range on their website.

This eye sheet mask has a very interesting concept, that was shown on the packaging. Unfortunately, I failed to read the instructions carefully on my first sheet mask so it was a waste.
What the picture show is that, you need to depress on the "wrinkle essence" to allow the essence contents flow to the eye mask, where the arrow pointer is.

Thereafter, you can remove the eye mask from the packaging and use it. Each pair of eye masks is protected between protective layers and kept in a clear plastic tray. The jelly-like cresent moon shaped eye mask is slippery and glooey-like. It slipped from the undereye area very easily. I adjusted it every 5 minutes which was quite bothersome. It felt refreshing and cooling.

My undereye area looked slightly depuffed during my first usage and fine lines were minimized.
During my second sheet mask, the undereye area looked slightly brighter and depuffed but it was a temporary measure.

I used both sheets on 2 consecutive days.

Review : Shiseido Aqualabel Moist Charge Mask

Review for Shiseido Aqualabel Moist Charge Mask

    Product Description
This moisture rich facial mask is infused with collagen and hyaluronic acid, deeply hydrating ingredients that fully penetrate the skin’s inner layers to deliver moisture right where it is needed the most. Recommended for dry and stressed skin types. It is colorant-free and dermatologist tested.

I bought a box of 4pieces, at literally a steal at S$11++ where the original retail price is $22++. Savings at Watsons!

I have been using it almost everyday this week because my skin has been feeling abit taut at times after using Biore Make-up remover. The material of the sheet mask is thick and there are slits at the cheeks and nose to make it a comfortable fit on the skin.

It also comes with eye flaps which you can fold up or down, for your preference. It has a tiny little gap between the eye flap and facial sheet. Perhaps suitable for those who dislike having the whole flap to cover the eye area.

The mask is touted to be an intensive care mask that instantly achieves moisturized, resilient skin in just 5 minutes. It also comes with S-shape cuts for a lifting effect.
It can exert its full effect in 5 minutes but the maximum recommended time is 10minutes if one really want to use it for a longer time. I like that its fuss-free and convenient where 10mins is all I need.

There is a slight alcohol scent though, which I rather do without. After each treatment, my skin does feel hydrated and rested.

You can purchase the mask from Amazon

Review : Kao Biore Aqua Jelly Makeup Remover

    Product Description
Biore Aqua Jelly Makeup Remover – the first makeup remover in jelly format. The smooth serum –like texture spreads easily to remove makeup even waterproof mascara with less tugging and helps to cushion the skin from an otherwise harsh cleansing motion. Contains 1/3 of moisturising essence, Aqua Jelly makeup remover nourishes and hydrates skin for a moist and dewy finish. Removing makeup has never been so easy.

I owned a 20ml size which you can redeem from here. I use it as mainly as a make-up remover which has a pleasant gel-like texture that appears to be oily when it was on dry skin.
It feels like cleansing oil ( in a thicker texture), rather than the purported jelly texture. It cleanse off all make-up gunk easily and splashes of water later, my face is just clean and fresh, without any hint of greasiness.
It has a light fruity scent and while it is touted as non-drying, I do feel a taut after-feel ocassionally.

I used it once around the eyes ( using my fingers) , to remove the eye-makeup since its stated on the bottle that its able to do so. None of the contents get into my eyes so that was a relief, however because I usually prefer to use water-based products with a cotton pad near my eyes, I don't really enjoy using this method.

With this jelly make-up remover, I just pour some contents onto my palms, massage into my fingers and apply gently all over the eyes and eyelashes and all gunk came off easily. Note that I am not using waterproof eye make-up. It certainly feels abit weird to be using it without cotton pads and I was so afraid that it may get into my eyes but nothing drastic happens, though I would still prefer to use it as a face make-up remover, in my personal preference.

I also tried using it on the cotton pads although thats not the rcommended method as stated on their packaging. The jelly feels dry on the cotton pads and is difficult to glide on my eye area. It removes a little of the eye make-up but not all. Definitely not the correct way.

It retails for $24.90 in Watsons.
