Review : Biotherm Source Therapie 7 Skin Perfection Catalyzing Serum

Product Description
The Biotherm biologists have immersed 7 ionized minerals (Copper, Zinc, Magnesium, Manganese, Sodium, Potassium and Calcium), Pure extract of Thermal Pankton in an ultra-sensorial velvety-gel to obtain a formula that catalyzes skin perfection: cellular renewal increases hydration flows within skin’s surface layers, and skin appears revitalized. Instantly skin feels incredibly velvety-soft, it is hydrated, and feels smoother. After 7 days, it is more even and radiates with a new healthy rosy glow.

A daily dose of perfection to enhance your beauty ritual. With 7 benefits:
- Instantly smooth skin
- Complete hydration
- Regenerates youthful skin
- Tightens visible pores
- Mattifies skin
- Evens out skin tone
- Instant velvet touch

I first used up a bottle of this product several years ago and recently received a sachet for me to try it out so I thought I would just post a review then. I am not sure if the formula have been changed as the name sounded different but personally, I still think that its as awesome as ever.
I am quite a big fan of Biotherm products and have been a member for many years but along the way, I realized that only their moisturisers and selected cleansers are suitable for my skin.

This blue mineral-rich satiny gel serum sinks into the skin well and within minutes, I get super velvety smooth skin. There is no greasy feeling. I really love the texture of my skin whenever I applied the serum but the effect only last as long as I apply the serum. Sometimes, the velvety smooth texture last a few days, sometimes not.

I have tried using the serum alone in the night but did not find that spectacular in giving complete hydration as claimed, it works better when paired with a Biotherm moisturiser.
It could be a pyschological feeling but I always feel that my skin is healthier and fresher whenever I had it on. I just feel more confident facing the world.

Cosme Decorte AQ Gentle Pure Washing Foam

Product Description
Its gentleness enhances skin's resilience. This is a facial wash that nurtures skin like a serum does.
Super fine lather - the result of 6 specially selected washing agents - work to cleanse skin gently and quickly, Phospholipid Polymer Formulation gives skin a supple and firm after-feel, as if veiling it with moisture.

This was one of the free gifts from the L’official magazine  and I started using it a week ago. I can never resist trying out new products, that is the main existence of my blog, isn’t it?

The generous 18ml trial size encased in a cute bottle is a liquid cleanser. I would have never guessed it from the name of the product. I thought it was one of those foam cleansers but instead liquid came out easily and heavily from the big bottle opening that I quickly and swiftly closed back the cap.

Upon massaging it on the face, it creates more foam and becomes much easier to do the cleansing job.
During the cleansing process, it tends to have a dry feeling on the face but that dry feeling diminished after I washed my face with clear water. I can feel the squeaky clean feeling on the hands though, almost like overly-cleanse kind of feeling. I also do not have the tight taut feeling commonly associated with foam cleansers on my skin thereafter.

However, the next morning, I found the left wings of my nose red and raw with some flakiness which tends to happen recently when I used products that are too dry for me. I let the skin rest for a couple of days and used the cleanser again. I still encounter the same problem the following morning.
Note that I used the cleanser at night only.

I have since stopped using it, because its just not suitable for my skin.
It scored 4.9 from 8 users on Makeupalley, all of them like this cleanser.

Review : Mandom Cleansing Express Bright Up Cleansing Sheets

Product Description
Oil-free, Water-based makeup cleansing sheet effectively melt down dirt and makeups even from deep in pores.
No-rinsing or no-facial lotion necessary! It makes your daily skincare fast and easy.
Cleansing liquid is absorbed in a thick, soft cotton sheet. Gentle and refreshing feeling.
Oil Free, no fragrance, no colorant, paraben free, and alcohol free.
Allergy tested. Patch, stinging, non-comedogenic tested.

I got myself a packet of these cleansing sheets when I was in Japan, together with the moist version at just 210yen per pack which is about S$3.31.

According to Mandom, after google translation, this Bright Up version contains AHA and Lactic Acid to remove dull dead cells containing melanin, hence producing brighter skin.
The Bright Up line is recommended for those who are concerned with dullness, clogged pores caused by Melanin. In addition, it also help to build up strong skin that is hard to get pimples.

I have reviewed the moist version last month which is not something suitable for me.
I got better luck with this bright up version, because even though it still stings the eyes if not careful, it was not a dripping mess, unlike the moist version. With the moist version, it tends to drip all over the face and so it gets into the eyes pretty easily. However, with this bright-up, its not that dripping wet, so it does not give one the messiness which also meant the reduced tendency of stinging the eyes.
I thought the face does look clearer and brighter after each use but the effect does not seem to last.

Similar to the moist pack, the size of each pads are the same and the cleansing capability is pretty reasonable, 1 sheet on both sides made a good removal of my weekend make-up. Mascara, will of course still needs some effort to have it removed.

The only gripe is the packaging, whereby 2 pieces are kept in 1 sachet which made it such a hassle to keep 1 intact in a ziplock bag in order to avoid it being dried out, before the second day usage. I hope the people at Mandom will take this into consideration and have the 6 pieces packed separately. I am sure I am not the only irritated one.

Review : Juice Beauty Hydrating Mist

Product Description
This refreshing Hydrating Mist gives a burst of moisture that balances and tones the skin. A harmonic blend of certified organic, antioxidant-rich white and red grape juices, soothing aloe vera, nutrient-rich rosehip and grapeseed oil delivers a fresh, radiant complexion.
Clinically proven to present a significant moisturizing effect, increasing hydration by 11% for up to 1 hour and maintaining a 7% increase in moisture for up to 3 hours.

Key Ingredients
red grape juice : a powerful antioxidant with resveratrol, vitamin A, B, C
white grape juice : a powerful antioxidant with resveratrol, vitamin A, B, C
aloe leaf juice : soothes and replenishes moisture with over 75 nutrients
rosehip fruit extract : rich in vitamin C and essential fatty acids
oat extract : calms, soothes, softens and protects
vitamin E (tocopherol) : a potent antioxidant which protects cells from the aging process
vitamin C (ascorbyl palmitate) : promotes healthy circulation, collagen/elastin, cell turnover
vitamin A (retinyl palmitate) : an antioxidant which stimulates skin rejuvenation
grape seed oil : a rich antioxidant which protects the skin
phospholipids : essential to cell membrane function and balance of skin's natural moisturizing factor

I love it when a hydrating mist is not just a hydrating mist alone, instead it does more than hydrating the skin like this latest Juice Beauty product which I have been using for the last few months.
Filled with so much antioxidant goodness, its the perfect anti-aging care for your needs.

Being such a big bottle, 200ml to be exact, I reckon it is going to take me some time to finish it and indeed it is. Despite using it for more than 2 months, I still had about 60% left. The bottle is quite heavy and cumbersome, hence its not exactly a convenient size to bring it around, so I usually transfer it to a smaller bottle to be used overseas.

The scent is overpowering and stank when I first starting using it, but now I am used to it. Some users have associated the scent to be that of ylang ylang.

When I first sprayed it on my face, the texture is kind of sticky. Just be patient and wait for a while and soon, it would sink into the skin, leaving an almost soothed skin tone.

Frankly speaking, despite the antioxidant goodness in it and being titled it as a hydrating spray, I think Bioglo Lifting and Moisturising Mist did a better job in hydrating my parched skin so sadly, this doesn’t work as well as that. While I believe in the long term goodness in using antioxidant ingredients on the skin, but where hydrating factor is concerned, this scored low on my list.

So if you have normal and sometimes dry skin, this product may be useful for you, not if you have severely dehydrated skin. But then again, what does not work on my skin may work on your skin.
That said, it does refresh the skin wonderfully and is a cooling sensation, especially under the humid weather in my country. But you have to be careful near the eyes though because it does sting.

It scored 3.5 from 22 users on Makeupalley

According to this source,  the ingredient Retinyl Palmitate (composed of palmitic acid and retinol) is rated as a moderate hazard ingredient and is also known to break down in sunlight and forms free radicals. Note that this ingredient is found to be in almost 40% of the sunscreens in the market. (source)

Review : Uriage Soothing Cleansing Water

Product Description
Uriage Tolederm Soothing Cleansing Water, enriched in soothing, anti-irritant Uriage Thermal Water, cleanses, gently removes make-up and immediately calms feelings of discomfort experienced by hyper-reactive, intolerant skin. It provides long-lasting relief and gives a pleasantly fresh feeling without damaging or drying out the skin.
The fragrance-free, paraben-free, colourant-free and alcohol-free cleansing water is hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic.

Main Ingredients :
Uriage Thermal Water : to calm and relieve
Glycerin : to soften and hydrate

A lovely promoter at Watsons Jurong Point was kind enough to explain the products to me, but since I have tons of products at home, I decided not to get it. Anyway, there was no 20% discount so I do not think its worth it especially since I have no need for it yet.

In the end, she passed me this 10ml cleansing water sample for me to try. I love the innovative packaging ,where you pour from the small hole after you tore away the packaging as seen in the picture below. Convenient and its not easy to spill over.

I am actually quite glad that I got a chance to try this out, it gave me confidence to try out the rest of their products because I think this cleansing water, despite being made for sensitive skin, its also good enough for my light to medium make-up. 1 cotton pad was enough for me to cleanse off 90% of the gunk (excluding eye make-up). Impressive, isn't it? Of course, I still follow up with my regular cleanser. Its just a make-up remover for me.

Review : Skyn Iceland Icelandic Relief Eye Pen

Product Description
Is your stressful life taking its toll on your eyes? Thanks to this lightweight contouring eye cream - packed with darkness-diminishing vitamin K, age-erasing peptides, de-puffing orange peel and skin-calming Icelandic kelp - puffiness, fine lines and dark circles don't stand a chance. What's more, a cooling effect leaves eyes feeling energized and looking bright.
The best-selling Icelandic Relief Eye Cream formula is now available in a convenient, travel-friendly pen, providing on-the-go relief from the damaging effects of stress.

Features :
Vitamin K increases circulation to help diminish dark under-eye circles
Anti-aging rice peptides help firm skin by destroying the enzymes that break down collagen and elastin
Orange peel helps reduce puffiness
Cotton powder fills fine lines and acts as an optical diffuser to downplay wrinkles and dark circles
Icelandic kelp helps revitalizes skin and fight inflammation

A Sephora cult-favorite eye cream in a convenient, portable pen, it provides an on-the-go antidote for the damaging effects of chronic stress. This best-selling essential helps address all three major eye care concerns: puffiness, wrinkles, and dark circles. Skin is revived by a blend of soothing nutrients while optical diffusers brighten the entire eye area.

It is free of Parabens, Sulfates, Synthetic Fragrances, Synthetic Dyes, Petro-Chemicals, Phthalates and Triclosan. It is also 100% vegetarian, cruelty free, and allergy tested. The natural solution does not contain petroleum or mineral oils.

This was my Sephora haul way back in July which I have been using consistently for the last 3 months. According to the label at the back, the eye pen is good for 3 months once opened, so I have been using it diligently every morning and most of the nights.

I first read about it in an online article and knowing that its not available in Singapore, I subsequently asked a friend to get it for me as her family was visiting the States. At US$20, it definitely affordable. I only hope it works as Vitamin K is known to work for dark circles.

This is my first and only product from Skyn Iceland. The company is all about creating skin care solutions for stressed skin. Their products are known to center on the Biospheric Complex, which is Skyn Iceland’s proprietary blend of elements found in the Water, Earth and Air, that are combined with the latest in technology for products that soothe, heal, and restore skin.
Ingredients such as Icelandic glacial water infused with minerals, Arctic cloudberries, red cranberry seed oils, and thyme extracts deliver powerful antioxidants and moisture to rejuvenate your complexion.

I have fair skin with obvious dark circles, eye bags and fine lines. My eye bags are hereditary but I am still on the never-ending quest to ban all these troubled spots out of my life. I like the way the pen is made. Just 1 or 2 clicks and the lightweight eye cream oozes out, without any messiness. It is also hygenic and portable.

The packaging as a whole, look and feel simple and minimalistic. The so-called cream is lightweight, non-greasy, soft yet squishy at the same time with a firming under layer.

There is a slight cooling sensation when applied and it feels refreshing. I am not sure if I am supposed to use the pen to apply it, but I have always used my third finger to dab the cream on my undereye area.

The cream is lightweight which I like, but sadly, it does not deliver what its supposed to do. It scored 3.4 from 82 users at Makeupalley

Review : Steam Cream

After all the raves in the Beauty Blogsphere on the revolutionary Steam Cream, I just have to find out if its really worth all the hype. I am abit late in this, but better late than never, don't you think so?
At the lovely SoapnSorbet estore, I bought my Steam Cream at slightly less than $26 when there was an on-going promotion for this Stripe Stripe Limited Edition tin.
As you may have found out from their main store , each Steam Cream comes in an eco-friendly, recyclable and handy sized tin, available in many beautiful designs specially created in Japan.

Touted to be a multipurpose cream uniquely formulated using pure, unrefined steam for maximum absorption, it is a high quality skincare recommended for all skin-types, using fresh, natural and traceable ingredients for long-lasting, intensive and effective form of skincare that can be used on face, body and hands.

What is so unique about this Steam Cream is that, it pioneered the use of a steam technique to create this unique, gentle and loosely-bound emulsion. This looseness allows each ingredient – including a moisturising and soothing oatmeal infusion, orange flower water and healing lavender oil – to breakdown and penetrate areas of the skin that other creams find hard to reach. You can read more about it here

Main Ingredients :
Orange flower water, oatmeal infusion and glycerine : hydrate and moisturise deep into the skin.
Almond and organic jojoba oils combine with cocoa butter : seal in their goodness, softening the skin’s surface.
Fragrance : Created from a natural blend of pure essential oils selected for their toning, soothing and healing qualities.

At $26 for a 75g tin, I actually took ages to use up the whole tin. And thats because I only used it for the hands and body. I did not feel comfortable in using it on the face when I saw and feel the texture. I know some people do and love it.
The tin actually looks larger than expected, perhaps of all the hype of it being a portable and friendly 75g size, I was expecting it to be smaller in size. And its quite messy to bring it around because the whitish contents gets twirled round and round in the tin when I carried it in the bag and if I opened the tin too strongly, it gets all messed up and spilled onto my clothes or around the outer layer of the tin.
Its also not hygiencially-packaged considering how many times I have to dip my fingers in it though I am fine with it since its for my body and hands usage.

Considering that its named as a "cream", I would have thought the texture would be thicker but its actually quite runny. It looked like whipped cream to me though the texture is far from it.
The whitish cream with a cool sensation spreads well  though it took some time for it to fully sink into my skin, leaving an almost smooth and soft texture on the legs. However on the hands, it still feels slightly sticky.
The natural ingredient list is impressive as one get to experience all the goodness in this Steam Cream.

Review : Dermalogica Ultracalming Cleanser (new formula)

The cleanser with the original formula have been my holy grail product for the past 4 years to curb my sensitive skin. Its something which I cannot do without. However, several months ago, it came up with a new formula which I was not aware of. I came to know about it after receiving my products ordered direct from USA.
Initially, I just thought it was the packaging change but it turns out that the ingredients have changed as well after I realized my skin have reacted to the new formula badly.

New formula :

Old formula :

Apparently, the whole UltraCalming line have been revamped to "serious" relief for sensitized skin.

Relieve : Soothing anti-inflammatories and botanicals cool and diffuse heat, flushing, redness and burning
Control : Our exclusive "UltraCalming" Complex works beyond the skin's surface to interrupt inflammation triggers
Protect : Antioxidants help replenish skin's protective barrier while combating skin-damaging free radicals.

The whole range consists of its cleanser, relief masque, mist and serum concentrate. It certainly sounds like something for the extra-sensitive skin.

Key Ingredients of this new UltraCalming line :

Acetyl Tetrapeptide-15 : Targets neurosensitive skin by reducing painful sensations
Boerhavia Diffusa (Red Hogweed) Root Extract : Targets neurogenic inflammation, restores tissue integrity and soothes to restore skin's normal sensitivity level for immediate and long lasting effects
Avena Sativa (Oat Kernel) Extracts : Natuiral anti-irritant and anti-redness properties
Ginger Extract and Bisabolol : Works synergistically to help reduce redness and irritation

Well, I started on the cleanser with the new formula as I have used up the old one. I thought it should be something even better ( or so, the marketing folks thought so but you and I know better ).
In the end, I experienced something I have never experience before in the past 4 years.

First, I did not quite like the smell, it just reminded me of some musty scent. Then while I am in the cleansing process, I could feel some slight reaction to my face. It stings. Real bad. I was so stunned. I was not expecting something like this, formulated for the sensitive skin. It was just minty hot.
I washed it off immediately. And guess what? My face turned red and flushing hot. It was terrible and I was upset, extremely upset.

I am upset about losing my favourite cleanser. I am upset what the formula have done to my skin. I am upset that I may not be able to find another HG cleanser as good as the old one. I wondered what I should do? I hate new formulas. Why can't the people just stick to something which have been working well in the first place? Why fix it when its not broken in the first place? Urgh. It was just so frustrating.

And so I thought that perhaps I should give it another chance. I relooked back to all the products before using the cleanser, thinking perhaps that the cleanser may not be the culprit, it may perhaps have reacted to something I have used before the cleansing process.

In the meantime, I have also written in to Dermalogica in the States, asking them about the new cleanser formula and about my skin irritation. The folks, while polite and sounded sincere in knowing more about the situation were kinda slow in replying me back and I sort of gave up in the end, after many rounds of to and fro.

The stinging feeling become lesser in the weeks to come and I was glad and thought perhaps my skin have not gotten used to the new cleanser and probably reacted to it in a big way but have since calmed down.

However the stinging feeling suddenly came back one day for no reason at all and it continued once in a blue moon. I get panicky. A good product should not be doing that to my skin. So bye, the product is going to my sister who, despite with more sensitive skin than mine, has no problem with it. Go figure!

Review : Loccitane Honey Miel and Lemon Citron Hand Cream

Product Description
Rich in shea butter and pure honey from Provence, this creamy moisturiser is perfect for softening, protecting and nourishing hands.

Loccitane Honey Miel and Lemon Citron Hand Cream was part of my Sephora haul sometime back in a 15ml trial sized sample from the Loccitane Hand Cream Bouquet ( which also consist of Shea Butter, Cherry Blossom and Lavender hand creams ) that costs US$25.

Commonly known as Honey and Lemon Hand Cream, I thought it would smell good, at least something near to honey or lemon. But well, I was due for a big disappointment as I really hate the scent. Its just so yucky and reminded me of some coconut oil mixed with burnt incense fragrance. I like hand creams with lovely scents as its going to be something close to you when you sleep, when you type on the computer, when you are enjoying a movie, etc. You get my hint?

White in colour with just a tiny tinge of yellow in it, it resembles a milky white medium-thick consistency cream. It absorbs into the skin easily, with just a slight greasy shiny touch.
However I see no benefits in the hand cream.

It does not moisturise at all. It has no effect in softening, protecting and nourishing my dry hands. I expected better quality for the brand and the price. But since I have paid for it, I have to use it up.

I will update the post again, should there be good result to boot.

Review : Etude House Natural Mask - Aloe Vera

Product Description
Essence mask contains aloe vera extract that comforts troubled skin.

I cannot remember how I got this product, I reckon that it should be one of the souvenirs from thoughtful friends of mine, knowing how much I enjoyed using masks.
I only have 1 sheet which I used it recently. I sense a slight alcohol scent which is actually the 5th ingredient in the list. Alcohol is in all Etude Masks I have used so far. The cut-outs are slightly smaller than most masks I have used before, so I guess it would be most suitable for those with small faces.
After treatment, my skin feels softer and slightly smoother. However, my cheeks feel warmer and looks slightly red. It could be some skin sensitivity reaction which thankfully cleared off by the next morning.

March Quick Review

Initial reviews on some of the sachets I have used recently. Due to the limited number of times used, its not enough for me to conduct a full review so its just some thoughts.

1) Dermalogica Eye Make-up remover

An efficient, clean-rinsing make-up remover specially formulated to instantly dissolve all traces of eye and lip make-up, including stubborn mascara. Completely oil-free, alcohol-free and water soluble, this soothing. conditioning gel contains silk amino acids to help strengthen lashes and condition the delicate eye lid area

The 2 sachets I have, sadly only allowed me 1 usage on the eye make-up on 1 eye. I had mascara, eyeliner and eyeshadow on that day, and this gel manage to remove it gently without any irritation.

2) Lilyth Cleansing Milk

Lilyth Cleansing Milk (Bouquet of Flowers) is a pleasant and creamy cleansing milk designed for regular cleaning of the facial skin. This gentle, non-aggressive cleansing milk removes make up and impurities while performing a softening and soothing action with its ...
Chamomile extract and pomegranate extract: a luxurious moisturizing agent which improves the skin hydration.
Edelweiss extract: prepare the skin to increase the transparency, and restores its freshness and cleanness.

Made in France, the complimentary sachet from Cosme-de provided me with 2 usages to remove my make-up over the weekend. Its gentle and glides easily on the face to remove most traces of make-up. Its quite a joy in using it. It may be more effective on light make-up. There is no irritation and there is no tight feeling after cleansing, however, I do find slight flakiness on the wings of my nose though there is no tingly, irritated sensation.

3) Lilyth Mousse Comfort

Lilyth Mousse Comfort is the creamy cleansing mousse that is particularly suited for sensitive skin or prone to irritation.

The creamy, soft foam pampers the skin with its velvety texture, and plenty of water for washing off offers a fresh experience. It gently eliminates makeup and impurities, even eye make-up is gently and caringly removed without causing a burning sensation. And during cleansing, it enhances moisture levels and boosts skin elasticity.

The 1 sachet from Cosme-de was able to last several usages but I gave up after the first try. My sensitive skin is never suitable for foam type of cleansing as it is usually drying but I never gave up trying. It lathers well and while the skin does not experience any taut feeling but my hands do. It gave a squeaky-clean type of feeling which is quite drying. It cleanses off light make-up well ( BB cream and sunscreen ).

4) Beauty Credit Fresh Kiwi Yoghurt Pack

Provides moisture and nutrients for tired skin from outdoor activities leaving skin smooth and healthy

I tried once and decided that its not for me. My skin become itchy after 10 mins on the face. After cleansing it off, my skin became slightly red. Definitely a no-no for me.

Review : My Beauty Diary Bulgarian White Rose Mask

Product Description
Perform translucent and white skin: containing Bulgarian White Rose hydrosol, it soothes and hydrates skin. Blended with licorice and kiwi essence, it whitens and nourishes skin, for bright, fine, translucent and white skin. Leave skin watery and soft: natural hydrating ingredients including aloe, cucumber, seaweed and botanic collagen, instantly hydrate and energize skin, keeping skin watery and youthful. Amazing Nanospheres Technology: Structured with plenty of tiny holes, it enhances absorption of nourishment, leaving skin moisturized.
  • Offers radiance with translucent, glowing look of skin by its softening effect
  • Moisturizing, smoothing, firming for use on normal skin
  • Especially recommended for dull skin lacking radiance

This is the 9th flavour I owned from My Beauty Diary mask series. Most of the time, I bought them in 10 in a box, except for a couple of times which I exchange with some good friends for other flavours. I actually quite enjoyed using their masks, affordable and good, especially since I bought most of them from Taipei.

Main Ingredients
Bulgarian Rose Hydrosol : Soothes, refreshes and moisturizes
Licorice, kiwi : Whitens skin
Aloe, cucumber : Calms and soothes skin, moisturizes

I did not experience spectacular results initially while using this. It just does not seem that awesome, when I compared it to other flavours where I see results almost instantly. I usually try out products only when my skin is at its optimal condition, in order not to risk giving biased opinions and is also a way to pinpoint the root cause should my skin break out.

I am already in my 7th mask usage before I think its time to review this mask. The sheet material is similar to the rest of the series, thin enough to get tore if not careful but not the paper flimsy kind. The cut out areas are just right for me. As usual, the sheet mask is heavily saturated in its essence yet does not give the dripping messiness. It has a nice rose scent.
After each treatment, I do find my skin almost a shade brighter though it doesn't really last. With regular usage, I found my skin to be soft and smooth. However, in terms of its hydration, I think the Natto mask fares much better. I brought both flavours to my Minneapolis trip and used the Natto mask in the first few days every night and Bulgarian Rose mask in the later part of the trip. With Bulgarian Rose mask, my skin still flakes though very slightly the next morning. ( I used the masks before bedtime )  I did not experience any flakiness with the Natto masks which simply meant its hydrating enough in the winter season.
