Review : Nature Republic Aqua Collagen Solution Marine Hydrogel Mask

Product Description
This ultra-adhering mask makes the skin firm and hydrant with its concentrated marine collagen.

Benefits
- Tighten pores and improves skin's elasticity
- Moisturizing and smoothing, keeps skin healthy

I only have a sheet of this product but I am sensitive to it. My skin gets itchy barely 5 minutes after layering on the face.

It is in hydro gel form, so its jelly-like. It comes in 2 pieces, one for the lower part and one for the upper part of the face. It adheres well on the skin due to the weight of the hydro-gel. The cut-out near the lips is slightly small though.

Due to the itch, I removed the mask after 15minutes. There was no redness after the treatment but my skin definitely feels better.
The dehydrated areas on my nose were slightly hydrated but not excellent.

Active Ingredient: DIMETHICONE 1%
Inactive Ingredients:
WATER, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, GLYCERIN, AGAR, POTASSIUM ALGINATE, COLLAGEN, METHYLPARABEN, CARBOMER, POLYSORBATE 20, PHENOXYETHANOL, FRAGRANCE, PHYTOSPHINGOSINE, BETA-GLUCAN, LAMINARIA DIGITATA EXTRACT, SODIUM METHYLPARABEN, BUTYLPARABEN, ETHYLPARABEN, ISOBUTYLPARABEN, PROPYLPARABEN

Review : Nature Republic Aqua Collagen Solution Marine Hydro Gel Eye Patch

Review For Nature Republic Aqua Collagen Solution Marine Hydro Gel Eye Patch

Product Description

Gel type eye patch, designed to fit face closely, leads to a noticeably lifted and elastic skin formulated with blue marine collagen extracts.

Benefits :
- Use of the hydro gel mask sheet with silky touch fitting
- Contains marine collagen to allow your fatigued skin around eye area elastic and vital
- Forms a moist essence film on your dehydrated eye area and improve appearance of fine wrinkles
- Provides intensive care for dark circles and eye bags
- Lightweight texture intensively nourishes skin around eye area.

I owned 4 packs of this eye mask which I requested a friend to get it for me, direct from Korea sometime back. Forgotten that I have it in my stash, I requested another friend to get it for me.
In the end, I ended up with 14 pieces of these terrible masks. It costs about 25000won for 10 pieces while it costs $4.60 each in Singapore.

Each pair of the hydro-gel eye masks is kept in 2 plastic cache as shown above. The texture of the mask is glooey and jelly-like with a slippery feel. Just holding the eye mask is like grabbing a fish. You need to have a good grip, without piercing through the material with your fingers.
I never succeed. As I tried to layer it onto my undereye area, my fingers tend to poke through the material, crumbling or tearing it. Just plain horrible.

Even after succeeded in layered them on the undereye area, it tends to slip down slightly and I have to re-adjust it again. While it feels cooling and refreshing on the skin, it does nothing to the undereye area and with the hassle of re-adjusting a tore piece of eye mask, it just marred my experience.

It contains alcohol as the 2nd ingredient which is in high concentration.

9 Foods for Amazing Skin

Cucumber:
Full of hydrating enzyme-filled water, and hydration is key for youthful, smooth skin. It also contains vitamins B and C, zinc, iron, folic acid, calcium, magnesium and potassium. And it has anti-inflammatory properties, which is why you put the chilled slices over your eyes for a DIY spa treatment!

Seaweed:
Rich in B vitamins and minerals such as iron, which helps with healthy blood flow to contribute to radiant skin. It is also naturally low in (bloating) sodium, but high in iodine, to help your thyroid and metabolism function at its peak. Order a seaweed salad when you go for sushi or add spirulina to your smoothies or diet.

Kale:
An excellent source of the beauty vitamins A, C, and E, which have potent anti-aging properties and help promote healthy new cell growth. Kale is also loaded with minerals, such as magnesium and calcium that healthy skin needs.

Papaya:
Papaya’s gorgeous reddish color is due to its high content of beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A in the body, and acts like a mechanic of on-going skin repair. The enzyme papain contributes its cleansing properties to your digestion and promotes both bright skin and eyes.

Raw sauerkraut and other probiotic-rich foods:
Probiotics are one of the biggest beauty secrets for clear, radiant skin. They encourage the growth of friendly gut flora that helps keep your digestion in check, so there's better nutrient delivery to the skin and entire body. And they help make B vitamins, critical for energy and beauty overall.

Pumpkin seeds:
A handful of these are like taking your B vitamins and biotin, an essential nutrient for strengthening hair, nails, and skin. Pumpkin seeds are also high in minerals, such as zinc, which in deficiency can lead to issues such as acne. Sprinkle them over anything from yogurt and salads to rice bowls and fish.

Chia seeds:
They're an unbelievable source of essential fatty acids that nourish the skin and scalp. Chia seeds also contain skin-saving antioxidants (in the ballpark of blueberries) that fight free-radical damage. Be sure to soak them first before eating.

Cabbage:
High in fiber and contains the compound sulforaphane, which promotes anti-aging antioxidant activity in the body. It's also high in vitamin C.

Lemon:
Start each day with hot water with lemon. It gives you a boost of vitamin C, and this simple drink starts you off in the day hydrated. Lemon’s enzymes have also been shown to help rejuvenate liver tissue and help support skin collagen.

Review : Shiseido Aqualabel Reset White Mask

Review for Shiseido Aqualabel Reset White Mask

Product Description
An intensive whitening care mask that targets the root of pigmentations and spots by soothing skin inflammation found near them and inhibits excessive melanin production and brightens skin from within by removing dead skin cells and excess melanin.

Benefits :
- Clear up sun spots, wind damage and fine lines
- Contains cooling properties to relieve redness and discomfort caused by sunburn

I purchased this box, together with the Aqualabel Moist Charge Mask in Watsons sometime back. Similar to the moisturising mask, this sheet mask is recommended to be used for maximum 10 minutes as it is purported to be able to provide immediate effect on the skin.

It is said that each mask contains 18ml of whitening essence which is equivalent to half a bottle of beauty essence that provides intensive whitening care and helps skin to recover from UV-damage.
It contains "m-tranexamic acid", an effective whitening ingredient which helps to whitens as it inhibits melanin production. It also contains double hyaluronic acid.

The cut-out areas are small, especially for the eyes and around the lips, so some adjusting need to be done. The material of the mask is thick and sturdy the slits provide a better fit to the skin. It has a small flap for the eyes that you can pull back for a relaxing eye mask experience.

It is made up of a sturdy thick material that won't tear easily. There is a strong alcohol scent so using it for only 10 minutes is reassuring enough. The whitening effects are hardly apparent though.

Review : Enavose Probiotics Exfoliance Gommage

Product Description
Probiotics are microorganisms beneficial for perfect skin health. This gentle exfoliating gommage contains a balanced level of good bacteria to eliminate dead cells and comedones, unblock pores and strengthen the skin’s outermost layer to defend against aggressions and bacteria. Supported with bitter almond acid and a soothing flora blend, this renewal gel maintains the skin’s natural moisture barrier and gives new radiance and softness as tired skin is nourished.

Benefits :
· Gentle exfoliating properties resurface and renew your skin
· Accelerates cell turnover for brightened appearance
· Instantly softens and smooths skin
· Improves absorption of skin products applied after use

This product was part of my August Bellabox which I have been using for the past couple of weeks, on a twice weekly basis. I owned the 15ml size which comes in a tube form. The texture of the exfoliator is a clear translucent gel that is to be used on dry skin. It does not work on wet skin.

As you massage the gel into the skin for 1 or 2 minutes, tiny flakes came off which reminded me vaguely of Ginvera Green Tea Whitening Marvel Gel . I believe that the tiny flakes are the dead cells from the skin, giving the skin a renewed appearance.

During the initial usage on the first week, the exfoliator gave my skin a smooth and supple appearance. I like it so much that I thought it would be my holy grail facial scrub but it was not meant to be mine. Subsequent usage left my skin slightly taut and peeling.

On good skin days, it helps to eliminate dead cells and comedones, clean pores and making my skin softened and smoothened. However, it does not work every time.
On bad skin days, when my skin is suffering from a bout of dehydration, the scrub is gentle enough not to worsen the condition, though it does peel slightly.

Enavose products are free from parabens, SLES, mineral oil and fragrances. That said, please note that there is alcohol content as the 9th ingredient in the list.

Active Ingredients : Bacillus Ferment, Bitter Almond Acid

Help For Dry and Damaged Hair

Oils Shine and Moisturize
For centuries, people have used essential oils for a variety of medicinal and cosmetic purposes. The beauty industry eventually caught on, marketing luxurious aromatherapy shampoos, serums, and other hair care products -- with equally luxurious prices.
Today, you don't have to spend a fortune for essential oils. Many health food stores sell inexpensive versions. Here are some essential oils that experts recommend for dry hair.
  • Almond oil soothes and moisturizes the scalp.
  • Cedarwood oil stimulates the scalp and promotes hair growth
  • Chamomile oil adds shine and softness to hair, and soothes the scalp
  • Clary sage oil promotes hair growth and stimulates the scalp
  • Coconut oil softens hair and increases shine
  • Geranium oil strengthens hair
  • Jojoba oil moisturizes the hair, adds nutrients, and stimulates the scalp
  • Lavender oil deep conditions the hair, keeps it shiny, and helps control dandruff
  • Moroccan argon oil moisturizes, nourishes, and provides antioxidants to hair
  • Rosemary oil stimulates the roots, improves hair growth, and increases circulation in the scalp
  • Sandalwood oil helps with dry ends, and adds fragrance to the hair

How to Use Essential Oils

You only need a few drops of an essential oil -- mix one or more types in a shampoo or conditioner. Or mix the drops into 2 ounces of a "carrier" oil, such as olive or jojoba. Experts suggest these combos.
  • Cedarwood, clary sage, and lavender
  • Jojoba, clary sage, and cedarwood
After you apply the oil mixture, cover your head in a towel or shower cap.
You can either wash out the treatment after 30 minutes or leave it on overnight and shampoo in the morning.
Remember to wash out oils completely. When you leave them in too long, they weigh down hair, leaving it limp and oily.

If You Have Allergies
Take note if you have sensitive skin:
  • If you apply some essential oils directly to your scalp, they may cause irritation. Diluting them is the answer. Read label instructions for how to dilute oils, and never use them in higher-than-recommended amounts.
  • If you're allergic to plants such as ragweed, test the oil on a small area of your skin or hair to see if you have a reaction.

Review : Holika Holika Luminous Silk Starter for BB

Product Description
The liquid formula dries quickly and provides full coverage. Pink color pearl makes skin feel luxuriously soft and look radiant. Natural water moisturizes the skin, making it soft, smooth and elastic. Mineral oil free, paraben free, vaseline free. Whitening + wrinkle care.

When I first started using the sachet, I was not aware that this was supposed to be used before BB cream since the description is in Korean. However, I was curious on the term "starter for BB" and the name "luminous silk" sounds so similar to its BB cream.

On its own, it has a pleasant parfum-fragrance ( also reminds me of baby powder scent ) that can be quite heavy for some. The pink colour is pretty and glowy but hardly obvious on my fair skin tone. It has little specks of sparkles in it. The texture is slightly creamy and disappear into the skin once its blended properly. There is no coverage, unlike what the product description says. Oil control is moderately well.

Matching with my current Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream , this Starter BB cream serves to give off a pearly sheen to the skin after a couple of hours but not immediate. It did not provide the soft, smooth, moisturised and elastic skin as claimed.

You can also use it as a highlighter to highlight the high points on your face. ie. cheekbones

Review : SKII Cellumination Deep Surge Ex

Review for SKII Cellumination Deep Surge Ex

Product Description
The daily moisturiser is infused with a unique active whitening ingredient, De-Melano P3C that works to balance your skin tone from within to unleash your skin's aura.
It helps to condition and refine skin texture. Skin becomes smooth, clear and transparent that boosts light transmission on the skin surface that creates a healthy looking natural glow. It makes the affected areas, such as age and dark spots less obvious.
Containing concentrated SK-II Pitera that helps to improve overall skin texture and skin condition, it penetrates quickly into the skin and gives a light and smooth feeling when applied.

Benefits :
· Boosts light transmission throughout skin's surface
· Reduces the look of age spots
· Provides natural, healthy glow
· Contains concentrated Pitera™

As the last step of my 4 piece trial kit from Bellabox, this is a moisturiser where the texture is almost like a gel to cream form, white with a bit of translucency in colour. It feels like a lightweight cream and goes on comfortably onto the skin, leaving it soft and supple.

I certainly like the texture, though it does take some effort to scoop out the cream either with a spatula or fingers because its slighty glooey in nature. I personally feel that it may have some silicon ingredients in it, though I do not have the ingredient list.

Again, there are some massage steps to follow as indicated in the diagram below. And again, my sensitive skin is not able to take the stimulation so I gave up after more than a week of trying.
With the massage, I get spotchy skin instead of radiant and translucent skin as what we usually see on ads. Over-stimulation.

SKII Cellumination Deep Surge Ex Usage

I skipped the massage steps and apply the cream like a normal product. My skin just feels smooth and soft but it does not hydrate as much as I would like.

In general, I felt that all 3 products fared much better on optimal skin condition than on bad skin. And I don't encourage using it on sensitive skin that turns red easily.

Perhaps you can try, without the massage steps and it may fare better on you. Still, despite using up all 3 tiny tubs, I am certainly not impressed with the hype surrounding it. Its just not for me. Period.

On good skin days, it absorbs well into my skin, leaving a smooth and comfortable feel.

On bad skin days, my skin still feels dehydrated, rough and bad, despite using all 3 products step by step. For something that expensive, I would want it to improve my skin texture on bad skin days, at the very least.

This product lasts the longest ( an additional week ) compared to the lotion and essence since logically, those with runny texture tends to run out fast.

I do have colleagues and ex-colleagues commenting that I have become fairer so I believe this product does help to boost the whitening and even skin-tone effects, with a little help from the serum and essence.

Beautykat indicates that its supposed to be used as a night cream but it was not mentioned on SKII website. Note that I have been using it as a day moisturiser.

It scored 4 from 14 users on Makeupalley

Review : Loreal Royal Jelly Re-nutrition Nourishing Hair Mask

Product Description
Dry hair? L’Oréal Paris introduces the latest solution to nourish and revive dry hair. Re-Nutrition, an exclusive range combining L'Oreal's latest conditioning technology with an extract derived from nature; Royal Jelly.
Dry hair suffers from weakened hair fibres, a dull appearance, low natural shine and can be hard to manage. The conditioning ingredients in the Re-Nutrition 1 minute Nourishing Mask bathe even very dry hair. The nourishing properties infuse the hair fibre with moisture to regain manageability and bounce. Hair feels instantly replenished and revitalised.

Yet another 5 piece sachets in a box which I purchased from JB, together with Total Repair 5 Hair Mask. I prefer this Royal Jelly Hair Mask over the Total Repair Hair Mask as I can see and feel the effects.

With a fragrant scent of royal jelly, the hair mask has a thick white creamy consistency that goes on easily onto my hair ends. I usually used this hair mask like a conditioner, on freshly washed hair.
Each sachet lasts for about 3 times of usages which meant 15x of pampering experiences.

The initial experience was good, it detangles my hair beautifully and left my hair feeling soft with a bounce. However, the effects become medicore after the 2nd sachet. My hair was lightly detangled but still with some kinks at the hair ends.

Review : Baviphat Miracle Snail Cure Hydro Gel Mask

Product Description
High moisturising and low irritating hydro gel type mask that contains the snail slime leeched substances ( 45%) which recovers the stability of your unbalanced troubled skin due to stress.

I was surprised to see this brand in Watsons since there is no Baviphat store in Singapore. At just $2 each , I thought it was quite a steal. I have seen it selling for $9.60 in online shops. *Gasps*
The snail extract craze have been hot since a year ago and I never really thought of trying it since the thought of it sounds creepy and gross.

According to CNNgo and NZHerald, snail extract reportedly "soothes, regenerates and heals skin,” says Jeong Chang-hyun, deputy head of product planning for cosmetics company 'Able C&C.'
which owns beauty brand 'Missha'.
The active ingredients found in snail extract is rich in glycolic acid and elastin which have been known to slow premature aging by protecting the skin.

I purchased 2 sheets and used it on 2 consecutive days recently. It seemed like I am much fated with using hydrogel sheet masks recently because this is yet another one.
The sheet mask comes in 2 parts, one for the upper area and one for the lower area for the face. The texture is glooey and jelly-like, very slippery and it crumbles easily.
My fingernails isn't long in the first place, but once it pricked thru, the material crumbles.

It feels cooling on the skin and the first mask actually gave me some itch on small areas of the face during the process and after removing the mask.
The second mask was pretty alright, no itch. The skin feels slightly moisturised but nothing spectacular.

Review : Infusens Absolute Moisturising Concentrate

Product Description
Infusens™ Absolute Moisturizing Concentrate is an essential step for skin beauty. It contains Macrocystis extract, Hydrolyzed wheat protein and high Chitosan which help to nourish the epidermis and bring a filmogen effect that instantly tense your skin up!

This 4ml vial was part of the September Glamabox goodies. It comes with a cap on a plastic vial that is easy to squeeze and dispense the appropriate amount for the face.
Best to be used within 5 days to ensure the freshness of the product, I do have difficult depleting it, as I only used it in the morning. I would think 5days to 6days may be just right if its used twice a day - day and night.

Infusens come from Philip Wain HK, you can check out their range of products here.
It costs $213 for 10 vials, each at 4ml size. If each vial needs to be used up by the stipulated 5days, then $213 essentially can only last about 50days, which is about 1.5months.
When something costs that much, I do have some high expectations from it. This product is for moisturising purposes, which comes at a right time when I was battling with a slight dehydration on my nose area, where there were flakiness and roughness. I have combination skin but with surface
dehydration so I always try to find a balance between both.

The Moisturising Concentrate is a clear liquid with a thick concentrate texture that spreads well on the skin but with a very sticky finish. It takes a minute or two, for it to be totally absorbed into the skin, giving it a smoother feel.
However, I failed to see that it has done any remarkable hydration boost to my skin. In fact, other than making my optimal skin condition feels smooth and supple, it does not exactly hydrate the dehydrated areas.

Review : SKII Facial Treatment Essence

SKII Facial Treatment Essence Review

Product Description
A moisture booster that restores skin's natural 28-day renewal cycle, making skin smoother and more radiant. With more than 90% pure Pitera, it is often described as SK-II's "miracle water".

Effects :
Balances skin's pH, sebum secretion, moisture and oxygen levels, so the oily areas (usually T-zone) is less oily, while the dry areas are more moisturized. Soothes and refreshes skin from sunburn and burning sensation.

Benefits:
Texture refinement
Firmness power
Wrinkle resilience
Radiance enhancement
Spots control

Best to be used as the 3rd step in a typical skincare regime, this is the famous SKII treatment essence which took the world by storm when it was first launched many years ago.

An essence is typically applied to a clean face to prep skin to effectively absorb subsequent products like serum and moisturiser. The essence provides an additional layer of hydration so skin can better absorb the active ingredients from the rest of your skincare.

More than just softening or hydrating your skin superficially, a good skincare essence packs more nourishment and treatment ingredients to work skin deep and give you the complexion you always desired.

I have tried a small sample size many years ago and other than the sour Piteria smell, I vaguely remembered that it has not done a remarkable improvement to my skin.

Made up of over 90% Pitera – the brand’s key ingredient – the Facial Treatment Essence is said to improve radiance to reveal brighter skin, prevent sun spots, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin’s texture, and boost its retention of moisture, ALL in one single product.

This facial essence can be used on all skin types from your 20s, 30s to beyond.  In your 20s, it will help balance skin’s sebum secretion, keeping it shine free. In your 30s, it will even out your skin tone, just when pigmentation becomes a problem. In your 40s, the Pitera essence will help to preserve youth and radiance, and so on.

Fast forward many years later, I took a 2nd chance with this product, for my aging skin.
Almost similar ( but not exactly ) to the Cellumination Mask-In Lotion in texture, this clear essence is more watery and can be a chore when you poured it into your cupped palms. On some unlucky days, I actually spilled some ( either during the pouring process into my palms or during tapping on skin ) and I thought that was such a waste.

I also used it on cotton pads which is easier to use, just swipe all over the face like a toner and let it sit abit longer on my pigmentation spots on the cheeks.
As per the instruction, you can use it both ways - either as a essence directly onto the skin or soaked in a sheet mask and use it like a facial treatment mask.

Since I do not own any paper masks, I poured it on cotton pads, tear it thinly and just layered on my face. Check how the lotion mask pack works here, made famous by Chizu Saeki. So far, I have used it in all 3 ways and all works almost the same, at least on my skin.

The Pitera scent is overpowering, purportly due to the fermentation. It certainly takes some adjusting to. Thankfully the scent does dissipate.

The essence is clear in colour, watery in consistency and sinks into the skin very quickly.
It provides a refreshing feel to the skin, making it feel luxuriously pampered. But I did not reap any significant whitening or hydrating benefits.

Perhaps I need more than a 10ml bottle to see an improvement. For something that is expensive and deemed as a miracle, I expected more from it.

The main ingredient in the product, Pitera, is naturally-occurring liquid from the yeast fementation process, discovered by scientists when they noticed the elderly workers working at a
sake brewery in Japan had wrinkled faces, but soft and youthful hands which led to the birth of this Miracle Water that helps women and celebrities to achieve crystal clear skin.
The single blend of vitamins, amino acids, minerals and organic acids helps to ensure supple, smooth and radiant skin.

My skin does get slightly red after using the product, mainly on the broken capillaries on the sides of my nose. I persisted in using for 2 weeks but failed to see any difference to my skin.
When my skin is dehydrated, this treatment essence did not help to provide the much needed hydration but made it more irritated instead.

I guess its probably a blessing in disguise, an excuse to skip an expensive product purchase!

Surprisingly, it scored only 3.6 from 387 users on Makeupalley.

Update ( 4th Sept 15 ) :

3 years later, I bought the Facial Treatment Essence Crystal Limited Edition 215ml again, still refusing to give up.

I tried the SKII FTE in 3 different ways - on paper sheet masks ( sold in capsule forms ), on cotton pads ( as a lotion mask, read here ) and in a misting bottle ( as a facial mist ).

On paper sheet masks, the FTE dries up pretty quickly so I didn't quite like it. As a lotion mask, where I spread out the cotton pads all over my face, the FTE stings occasionally and my skin turns red and slightly warmer on nose and cheeks. Despite that, my skin feels pampered, nourished and refreshing after each treatment but I have yet to see any significant improvement to my dark spots on cheeks. Skin is just left feeling soft and hydrated and rough edges were gone.

My favourite and last method is to use it in a spray bottle! Just decant it into one of those travel-friendly sized bottle and you are on your way to face-misting whenever your skin needs it. Refresh your skin and replenish any moisture you might have lost throughout the day. Fast and convenient!

Update ( 13th Sept 19 ) :

I realized the effects were more pronounced the older I get and now I can say that it truly works. Recently, I have been using a 30ml bottle on a daily basis, as a lotion mask. My skin is luminous even without any moisturiser. Skin is smooth to the touch and feel soft with all rough ( due to dehydration ) edges all gone. Loving the effects of the FTE.

However do note that, on my skin, right after lotion masking, my skin turns pretty red with all the red patches but they were gone after 5 minutes.

Review : Nature Republic Super Aqua Max Deep Moisture Hydrogel Mask Sheet

Product Description
Helps soothe stressed skin by supplying moisture and increasing nutrition in the skin with its refreshing feel and strong adherence

I had a deja-vu feeling when I was using this mask, it reminded me of Rachel K Illuminator Hydrogel Mask. Made up of a jelly-like, glooey-like material, it is quite messy to take this out from the protective layers, once pulled out from the packaging.

The essence kept dripping from the glooey-like mask though the sheet mask is not very wet. Similar to Rachel K mask, it comes in 2 portions, one for the upper face area and one for the lower face area.
The fit is not very comfortable as it does not adhere well to the skin. The sheet mask at the area near the jaws will peel off and leave it hanging in mid-air so I have to keep adjusting the mask.

The result was even better than using Rachel K Hydrogel Mask, the roughness on my skin due to dehydration was almost gone. Skin feels much moisturised and stayed hydrated well to the end of the following night. It was a pleasant surprise. Note that I do scrub my face prior to the application of this sheet mask.

Review : Rachel K Radiance Illuminator Hydrogel Mask

Product Description
Delivers 11-18% more moisture than traditional skincare sheet masks. Made with Stem Cells extracted from the lotus flower, it promotes the division of skin cells, enhancing the skin’s intrinsic ability to renew itself. Its gel-like texture contours to your face leaving it soft and hydrated, while refining fine lines and wrinkles. For normal, oily, or acne-prone skin, its natural extracts clear out pores without irritation, while its hydrating ingredients deliver oil-free moisturizing and radiance

Benefits :
  • Intense oil-free moisture
  • Brightens dull skin
  • Tightens pores
  • Refines fine lines
  • Controls sebum
  • Calms & Soothes
  • Tones and Refreshes
I redeemed this sheet mask from their facebook page some time back. It was a new product that was being launched. Her CC cream is a good one though the shade does not suit me, hence I was keen to try her very first mask.

The packaging, as you can see from the picture above, is large, way larger than other masks in the market. Certainly stood out, from the rest. The fonts are big, especially the brand.

Personally, I don't like gel masks, either for the eyes or face. The results just do not deliver. Therefore, I was skeptical when I pulled it out from the packaging. The sheet mask is jelly-like and glooey-like, very slimy and slippery. It also tears easily. Its not wet, just slightly moist. I had difficulty just grabbing the mask to layer on the face, trying to prevent it from slipping and tearing.
It comes in 2 portions - one for the upper area of the face and one for the lower area of the face.

There were some minor tears though, but the mask is still large enough for my face. The cut-out holes for the eyes and lips were quite tiny and required some adjusting. The nose flap is slightly large but it did not irritate my nostrils unlike other cloth masks.

Despite the texture of the mask, the mask feels quite cooling, comfortable and relaxing on the skin. Once removed, I was surprised that the roughness on my nose (due to dehydration) was slightly subsided. My face looked much rested. It looked calmed and soothed.

It seemed like the perfect gentle cleanser for sensitive skin, with oats, milk and honey. I thought I may have found for my holy grail cleanser but it was not meant to be mine. During the first cleanse, I noticed that it left a squeaky too clean feeling on the hands, which does not bode well for sensitive skin. However, my skin remained fine, without any tautness.

It has a funny scent, nothing unbearable, just a scent which I am not used to. The texture is a light milky runny consistency which does not lather much. It seemed like a gentle and mild cleanser. However, I am pretty concerned on the tightness on my hands as usually too drying cleansers will do that to my hands.

Its definitely not a cleanser I would re-purchase. It scored 4 from 4 users on Makeupalley.

Review : Milk Baby Bath Time Wash

Review for Milk Baby Bath Time Wash

Product Description
Milk Baby Bath Time Wash 375ml is an all natural bath wash packed with all the good stuff - keeping your baby happy and clean.
It is all natural and 82% organic. Made with certified organic lavender oil, chamomile extract, jojoba oil and calendula, this wash is safe for use on babies’ skin and hair ensuring an allergy and tear free bath time experience.

What are the key organic ingredients?

  • Lavender
  • Chamomile
  • Calendula
  • Neroli

What are the key product qualities?

  • The lavender scent is used as an aid for relaxation worldwide and will assist in a great night’s sleep for Mum, Dad and Bub.
  • Neroli Oil is well know for its soothing effects on the nervous system whilst also calming and moisturising the skin

I purchased the 375ml size from Luxola at $19.60, down from the original $28 when there was a promotion. I don't think I would spend $28 on it as it depleted quite fast.
Meant for babies' usage, I actually use it on myself because I like that its gentle, mild and the scent smells really good.

It comes in an off-white chunky bottle made of sturdy material with a flick-top cap which is easy to dispense the contents.

This is my first foray into the brand and I do like it very much. Despite the name, I was surprised that the texture is not milky-based or white in colour. In fact, it is almost clear in colour and the texture is gel-like which seemed to glide on the surface of the skin, rather than to feel like its rubbing on the skin. It does not foam much but thats fine with me.

It cleanses well without any greasiness or irritation.

Milk Baby Bath Time Wash Original Ingredients

Update : 18th Aug 2018

7 years down the road, I purchased Milk Baby Bath Time Wash while having a vacation in Tasmania. Check out my haul from there. Unfortunately, the Bath Time Wash is no longer suitable for my skin. It could have turned drier with age, which resulted in the product making my skin alittle dry. The lavender scent also smells alittle musty, which I do not quite fancy.

A look at the ingredients reflects that they have changed the formulation as well.

Review : SKII Cellumination Mask-In Lotion

Review for SKII Cellumination Mask-In Lotion

Product Description
This unique everyday lotion acts as toner which delivers a mask-like experience on top of its skin conditioning function. It provides intensive hydration while boosting skin's Aura (transparent, glowing and healthy complexion), energizing and whitening benefits to the skin.

Benefits : Texture Refinement, Firmness Power, Wrinkle Resilience, Radiance Enhancement, Spots Control

KEY INGREDIENTS:
Centella asiatica extract and niacinamide : moisturize and improve skin
texture and tone
Pitera : moisturize and improve skin texture and tone

This product is part of a 4 set kit from BellaBox. Meant to be used as the 2nd step in the skincare regime, this product is one of the SK-II’s radiance-restoring Cellumination family which acts as a toner to offer immediate and long-lasting mask-quality hydration to skin in a lightweight
fluid formula.

Containing the Cellumination line’s signature Aura-Bright Complex, a powerful cocktail of Centella Asiatica extract, Nicotinamide W and a concentrated form of SK-II’s exclusive ingredient Pitera™, it’s the first step in boosting skin’s ‘Aura-Lucency’—in other words, delivering skin that looks ‘glowing from within’ gorgeous.

When you think of SKII, you think of skin that is clear and translucent, like baby's white and soft skin. At least thats what SKII's branding is to me.

Touted as a quick fix for morning dullness, the Mask-In Lotion helps to soften the skin's surface to enable it to absorb subsquent products from the skincare regime more effectively. It claimed that with regular use over 2 weeks, the product can significantly softens skin. Lets find out!

The slight off-white lotion is runny and has a heavy fragrance. I started off with using it direct on the skin by pouring the contents into my cupped palms and tap it gently into my skin, followed with the recommended face massage.

Hydration is quite pathetic. No doubt my skin felt refreshing and almost sticky after patting in the mask-in lotion but even though it sinks into the skin, the skin still feels the same as before.

SKII Cellumination Mask-In Lotion Steps

I like illustrations with instructions that is easy to follow as opposed to Clarins' complicated steps.

However, my sensitive skin just cannot take too much stimulation so massaging on the skin always made it red and splotchy and thats what happened when I followed the massaging steps with this Mask-In Lotion. Coupled on with more massaging with the Essence and Deep Surge products,
they are just too much for my skin to bear.

The hydrating and whitening benefits were hardly present. All I see was splotchy skin tone.
This Mask-In Lotion can also be used as a mask treatment but since I do not have any paper masks at home, I poured it onto thin cotton pads, tear it thinly and layered it on the skin.

The hydration ability was more apparent with the spot treatment. I just layered the cotton pads on the dehydrated areas and notice that the peeling subsided significantly though the roughness  ( due to dehydration ) still exist.

In general, I felt that the product performed better on optimal skin condition and enhance the skin's condition by allowing other products to better penetrate the skin.
On bad skin days, the product seemed useless on my dehydrated and sensitive skin.

After a week's usage of the product, I noticed that my skin has become more sensitive. The area around my nose and chin as well as the broken capillaries are red, after cleansing my face with my regular cleanser which should not happen at all.

When I think of the results and the pricey tag of $114 at 100ml, it certainly did not justify any purchase, despite the glowing reviews from others.

In terms of ingredients, the product has a high concentration of Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate and Niacinamide. Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate regulates oil production and PH balance, evens out skin tone, and protects skin from environmental stressors.

Niacinamide is well-tolerated by all skin types and helps to reduce the appearance of  hyperpigmentation, redness, yellowing, and blotchy spots on the face (source)

SKII Cellumination Mask-In Lotion won the Best of Allure Beauty 2011 as well as Her World Brightening Serum category (Readers' choice )

It scored 3.3 from 3 users on Makeupalley.

Haircut + Color at Organic Hair Professional

Salon : Organic Hair Professional @ Hougang
Location : Blk 204, Hougang St 21 #01-97 S(530204)
Tel : 6289 9373
Stylist : Kiss Huang

I have not coloured my hair since last year, because of the damage that I think it would do to my hair as my hair ends are already quite dry. However, since I was sick of the ever-accumulating grey hair and with an upcoming wedding dinner this month, I decided to opt for an organic dye job.
Organic Hair Professional salon was my #1 choice as I have seen it around and while surfing for the address online, I chanced upon a good deal on Qoo10. $48 for haircut and colour, just the one I need.

I redeemed the coupon the next day upon purchase and the whole job took 2.5hours even though on the e-ticket, it was stated as 90minutes. I added an additional $20 due to one of the clause stated in the e-ticket that if I want to cut it under a certain length, an additional charge applies.

The salon design is common, with black as the main colour. There were 2 kinds of seats, one which faces a full-length mirror and another one which has a table. I was directed to the one with a full-length mirror which has a small side table that has to be shared with the person sitting beside me. Imagine a small table to be shared with 2 persons, with bags, spectacles, drinks and magazines. How silly!

In the end, due to the inconvenience, I only manage to read 1 magazine as the guy beside me placed his spectacles on top of the stack of magazines.

The senior stylist, Kiss is from China and is approachable, friendly, talkative and uses lots of realistic examples in answering my questions. For the very first time, I was told that my scalp is sensitive and red, as well as experiencing a mild case of hair loss even though I have healthy thick hair. It sounds contradicting to me.
He took an effort to show my scalp using their salon's hair machine but the picture is not very clear, though it does show that my follicles are clogged which could be the reason for the hair loss. ( I attribute it to the Yadah Shampoo )

He recommended that I blow-dry my hair everyday, instead of letting it air-dry as wet hair breeds bacteria which may lead to clogged follicles. I am not used to blow-drying my hair everyday but perhaps for the sake of the health of my hair, I may attempt to try and see if there's any improvement.

I was served a pack of mineral water, only after an hour in the salon which was abit long, I felt. I don't get a choice but its better than none.
I actually forgotten about asking for the brand of the organic colour dye, however Kiss kept emphasizing on their products using organic certified ingredients, for at least 3 times, even though he was not able to share the % of organic ingredients in the hair dye job, just that its ammonia-free and less drying. However, a check on their blog, reflects that their hair colouring range is known as Organic Color System hailing from Herb UK.

By using organic hair dye which contains as few parabens and harsh chemicals as possible, as well as being formulated from a naturally derived basei, it does not contain ammonia, hence the hair isn’t left feeling brittle and dry, and the scalp doesn’t feel irritated and sore.

And because I wanted a colour to cover the greys, darker colour was recommended to me. I suddenly felt like an auntie. Its the first time that I stepped into a salon to get my greys covered. I personally felt that the end result was quite black and looked abit unnatural, almost like Faye Wong in one of her shampoo hair ads. No doubt the hair feel silky smooth and shiny but I wished that the colour can be slightly lighter instead of being so dark.

And the hair dye stings badly. I don't get that kind of sting on normal colour dye but then again, it could also be because I have a sensitive scalp that day. Kiss used too much strength on my hair too, from the way he coloured my hair to washing the hair.

The tea-tree shampoo he used on my hair was minty and sting too. 6 hours later, after the sting from the hair colour and the shampoo, I could feel that my scalp is sensitive and raw than before the salon job. Then again, the fault could be really due to my sensitive scalp. Still, it was not a pleasant experience.

There is no hard-selling though Kiss did try to recommend shampoo and conditioner to me however he just back off once I decline his offer.

The haircut wasn't that fantastic, just medicore and because my hair is a glossy black, it looks thick and unnatural, at least in my opinion. However, I like that it covers my greys quite well, I just dislike the sting it comes with it.

The biggest peeve I have, is that I have a difficult time shampoo-ing my hair, because when its wet, my hair is just hard and with lots of kinks. It is like a clump of cheesy pasta that clumps together. I don't understand why as I have never experience anything like that before. The shampoo goes into the hair but I cannot wash it cleanly, like normal. The kinks and the hardness get into the way. You feel like pulling more hair as you tried to wash the hair. That resulted in big dandruffs on the first day after the dye job because I believe it was the result of the shampoo still being in the hair. It was just horrible. Terrible. Disgusting.

For the next few days, I tried washing it with more water, adding on more conditioner. It was slightly better during shampoo-ing but the kinks and hardness never go off. I dread shampoo-ing every single day. It was like a tug-o-war with my hair because I need to use more strength to get rid of all the shampoo residue from the hair, yet wet hair is at its most brittle stage so it dropped more easily.

I have read several good reviews on Q0010 before proceeding for the deal. However to me, it was an awful experience, to say the least.
On dry hair, it is very soft and shiny. Very slight kinks at the ends but no hardness. My fingers can run through my hair easily, until the ends.

While I really like the idea of a hair salon which uses organic ingredients, it just doesn't seem to work well on my hair. Its been more than a week but I have yet to see an improvement on my hair. I dread shampoo-ing. Really. First time in my life.

You can read more about it here.

This shampoo is my first product from the brand. It is touted to be a 2-in-1 hair product. So does it deliver?

I started off with using it as a daily shampoo wash before moving on to twice daily wash as I felt that it does not cleanse well enough. Hair feels and looks oily by the end of the work day on most days.
It has a heavy fragrance which seemed to be a mixture of orange and lemon.

It does not foam much, but provide suds during the lathering process. The texture is runny which seemed out of place with the pump dispenser since it virtually squirts out the liquid each time I depress on the pump.
What really irks me is that it tangled up my hair quite badly after each wash. On top of that, I also noticed that there are more hair shedding than usual. The unusual amount of hair shedding takes place after I had used more than 50% of the shampoo and its not due to the tangled hair ends. That terrifies me greatly.

A recent visit to the hairdresser proved my points. I was informed that I have a sensitive scalp which is red and raw. Folicles are also blocked which lead to a mild case of hair loss. I can only contribute it to the shampoo since thats the only hair product which had a greater impact to the scalp.

The shampoo comes in 2 sizes, 250g ( $15.90) and 400g ( $22.90 ) and I got mine in the 250g though the 400g is cheaper, if you calculate by quantity.

Review : Holika Holika Luminous Silk SPF42 PA+++

Product Description
Holika Holika Luminous Silk BB SPF42/PA+++ contains silk powder and moisture capsules which makes your skin feel soft and adds a beautiful glistening finish. It spreads lightly and thinly on your skin, so it’s hard to tell that you’re even wearing it. This BB cream will melt into your skin create a truly natural look and if you live somewhere that's sunny all year round then enjoy the SPF42/PA+++ that comes along with this product. Available in light beige and natural beige.

Benefits:
  • UV Protection
  • Whitening
  • Anti-Wrinkle
  • Moisturizing
  • Smoothing
  • Matte Finish

My new foray of BB cream from this brand is due to a sachet I received as part of some Korean products haul. Unfortunately, I do not have the shade to share because I mistakenly threw it away after using it up, thinking I have another sachet.
Mine is the 01 Light Beige. One sachet lasts me for slightly more than a week.

The texture of the BB cream is thick and creamy. I do find it difficult to glide on the skin and blending takes slightly more effort. It dries up fast too, so you need a quick hand to blend it.

The coverage is medium and oil control is good, for my combination skin. I hardly need to dab away any oiliness on my skin. The #01 Light Beige suits my skin tone and even out my complexion.

SPF42 with PA+++ is a pretty good combination of sun protection but that does not mean that one can do away without sunscreen. It is still important. Never skip your sunscreen.
