Review on Dermalogica Super Sensitive Faceblock SPF30

Product Description
A chemical-free sunscreen and skin treatment designed for skin commonly irritated by sun protection ingredients. Lavender, Green Tea and Licorice soothe irritation while mineral UV-blockers Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide invisibly defend against UVA and UVB rays. Contains no artificial fragrance or color.

How It Works :
- Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide microscopic dispersions provide complete protection against UVA and UVB exposure.
- UV Smart Booster Technology enhances photoprotection with antioxidant vitamins C and E that scavenge UV-induced free radicals any time skin is exposed to daylight.
- Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate (Licorice) and Camellia sinensis (Green Tea) contain soothing isoflavonoid polyphenols to calm irritation.
- Dimethicone (Silicones) protect and reinforce barrier lipids, which are often compromised in sensitized skin conditions.

I bought this sunblock after my sister have been using it for almost 2 years. She have blemish-free and fair skin and of course, I wanted to try it out.

Containing zinc oxide and titanium dioxide with SPF30, its a sunscreen that I believe everyone should have, to keep your fairness at bay.

Makeupalley gives it a 3.8 while Total Beauty gives it a 9.3.To sum it up from Makeupalley, some of the users reported dryness, tightness, itchiness and price factor being a big concern to all.

I have experienced some of the observations reported ( no itchiness and no tightness though ) but the benefits I reaped from it far outweighs the cons so I will continue to use this.

When I was young, sunscreen was not on the top of my list but now I am urged to apply a suncreen in my everyday routine to prevent more pigmentation.

I have very slight pigmentation on both cheeks and while make-up can conceals it, its still an eyesore to me, since I do not wear make-up on most of the days.

This milky-like fluid which is easy to spread, is a chemical-free sunscreen. The instruction on the bottle states that it is to be used before moisturiser but I am not comfortable in using it on my very bare face and sought the advice from Leonard Drake. One of the senior advisors says that I can use it after moisturiser if I have sensitive skin so I decided to follow her advice.

It leaves a slight white cast on the face but it poses no problem after I used a BB cream or liquid foundation over it. It is slightly greasy and leave a slight sheen after application but dries to a matt finish. There is a slight herbal scent but I am fine with that. Perhaps its psychological, but I felt that my skin is much protected nowadays.

However, on certain days when my skin is dehydrated, it tends to emphasize the dry patches on my face, so do moisturise well, before using.

According to American Cancer Society, products with an SPF of 15 or higher that also contain avobenzone (Parsol 1789), ecamsule, zinc oxide, or titanium dioxide are likely to be effective against UVB and most UVA rays.

It is also to be noted that Zinc Oxide offers broad spectrum protection against UVA and UVB (source) while Titanium Dioxide itself offers only partial UVA protection (source)

Review on Missha Speedy Solution Firming Eye Patch

Product Description
Release stress of eye area. Containing hydrogel, Deep Sea Collagen, Aloe Extracts.

I bought 5pcs of this eye patch from Korea at quite an affordable price. I am envious of Koreans who can buy and buy, choose and choose, without worrying about the hole in the pocket. They have such a wide array of beauty choices.

This pair of dry patches comes packed in a tray. Its spongy on 1 side and jelly-like adhesive on the other side, to be laid on the under eye area.
It provides a refreshing and cooling feeling after the treatment but gives no visible improvement to my eye area concerns.

Review on Etude House Hydro Wrapping Mask - Moisturizing

Product Description
This mask sheet's special hydro coating essence contains botanical extracts to effectively moisturize complexion.

With almost similar thick material and texture from the last few Etude House masks, this is actually abit stiff so I do not really understand what hydro wrapping meant.
It does not bend, fold or crease that easily when layer on the face.
The size of the mask does not really fit my face shape and the cut-out area on the nose is abit big.

Containing a strong floral fragrance, its not a scent which I like very much.
With alcohol as one of the listed ingredients, it just add on to the list of "what I do not like" from this mask.
The following day, a zit appeared on my forehead. Drats!

It did provide a layer of refreshing hydration to my skin though.

Active Ingredients: Rose and Lotus flower extracts

Review on Etude House O2 White Mask Sheet

I have 4 of them but I cannot remember if I got it free from the promoters in Singapore or bought it over in Korea.
For those who are not aware, Etude House at Orchard MRT station gives a free O2 sheet mask (gifts vary from time to time) for every potential customer who walked in. Its their promotional strategy of luring customers into their shop.

I have not been able to get much information with regards to the mask on its exact benefits or ingredients.
Looking at the name of the mask is confusing, is it supposed to be a whitening mask or an oxygen-carrier mask?
Some beauty bloggers have mentioned that this mask is not selling locally in Singapore and I cannot remember if I saw it in Korea because I did alot of Korea masks haul over there.

After trying out all the 4 sheet masks over the last 4 days, I would say that it does provides some moisturising abilities for my otherwise parched skin. The material and texture, as with the previous Etude House masks I have used before, is thick and seemed to be made of good quality material.
The cut-out area fits my face perfectly, neither too big nor too small.

No visible brightening effect on my skin though and the only gripe is, there seemed to be a slight alcohol scent, not something I like.
The essence holds up well in the mask without feeling like a mess on the skin and dries up partially within 20 minutes.
Some users have reported a stinging effect on the skin but thankfully I have experienced none.

After the first day of usage, I did develop a zit below the eyebrow but I dismissed it as that time of the month and continued to use the next 3 masks without any problems.

Laneige Beauty Bazaar Sale at up to 80% off

Enjoy up to 80% off on selected Laneige products

Date : 15th to 17th April 2010
Venue : Robinsons, Raffles City ( Training Room near the Customer Service Counter, Level 3 )
Time : 1030 to 830pm

I was there this evening, circling round the level 3 because I was not sure where it was.
Just when I decided to ask the customer service officers at their counter, I saw a small stand indicating the laneige sale in the training room just beside their counters.

The room is cramped, hot and stuffy when I was there. Throngs of ladies were in the small room, milling around the counters to get a glimpse of the products on display.
Each of us was given a gunny sack-like bag at the door, I thought it was pretty heavy itself.

This was my first time at a Laneige sale so I am not sure what to expect.
However, I do think that the products for sale are pretty pathetic. It was not really what I expect it to be.
Bags, trial product sizes ( $1 onwards ), Overnight sleeping mask, Clear C Effector, Eyeshadows, Compact Powders are just the few products I saw.
Prices were not displayed and you have to ask the promoters about it.
I picked up the Clear C Effector within 5 mins and queued for about 10 to 15minutes in the hot, stuffy room.

I have never used the Clear C Effector before, but thought I just wanted to try it. It costs $25, not sure what was the original price.

Review on The Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist

Product Description
Give your skin an instant pick-me-up with a go-anywhere, rosewater-scented mist that moisturizes, conditions and protects.

You can see that I hardly have positive reviews on The Body Shop products because most of the products do not really work well on me or gave fantastic results for the prices I paid.
However this time round, I gave the thumbs up for this face mist.

Previously, I have also tried the products from TBS Vitamin E range which includes the cleanser ( too creamy and gave me an unclean feeling after cleansing ) and the eye cream ( does not work on me ) but I was duly disappointed. I am glad that I took a chance with this face mist.

I really adore face mists because its such a great pick-me-up just when my skin needs it.
I started off with using Evian spray during my secondary school days and follow on to Avene and other brands.

This TBS face mist is a lovely pink spray bottle with a lightly scented rosewater fragrance. Its just so refreshing and calming when its used under the hot and humid weather in Singapore and when chilled in the fridge, its even more cooling.
I brought it along on my flights last year to give my parched skin the much-needed moisture. An instant moisture boost.
I also used it on days when my skin needs a perk-me-up.

In fact, there is nothing much to hate about it, except for some users who may not like fragranced products then this may not be the one for them.

You can also check out the comments on Makeupalley which scored a 4/5 and 8.5/10 from Total Beauty, definitely a mist which most people love.

Other usages :
- The Vitamin E Face Mist can be sprayed over make-up to seal it after applying.
- Carry it with you while traveling, especially if you are flying long haul. Applying it frequently will ensure you arrive at your destination with healthy-looking, hydrated skin.
- Keep in the refrigerator for extra coolness in the summer months.

Key Ingredients :
Vitamin E : nourishing natural antioxidant that moisturizes and protects against premature aging and environmental aggressors.
Glycerine : moisturizes skin to improve softness and maximize hydration.
Liposomes and lecithin : help skin to quickly absorb vitamin E and restore skin’s natural moisture balance

Full Ingredients :
Aqua (Water) (Solvent/Diluent), Butylene Glycol (Humectant), Glycerin (Humectant), Panthenol (Skin/Hair Conditioning Agent), Tocopheryl Acetate (Antioxidant), Phenoxyethanol (Preservative), Alcohol Denat. Review on H20+ Sea Mineral Scrub

Product Description
Perfectly round beads gently polish away dryness while improving skin texture and facilitating moisture penetration. Sea Mineral Complex™ and hydrating marine extracts of wakame, sea fennel, and sea lettuce help cleanse, while also conditioning and softening the skin.

Features :
- Removes dead, flaky skin cells to reveal smoother, clearer skin
- Maintains essential hydration balance
- Soothes and heals
- Make-up will go on smoother and look fresher longer

I was duly impressed when I was at their counter choosing some of their products to meet my $150 purchase in order to get some complimentary gifts. They are not that open in giving out samples and claimed that they do not have samples. I am not sure how true that is, but eventually, I did purchase their products just to check out how they fare on my skin.
I was impressed because most of their products are oil-free. If you have been following my blog, you would realize that I am quite interested in oil-free products.

Impressions aside, I have to be realistic and looked at the practical side which is to use it on my skin.
This sea mineral scrub with a beautiful turquoise color and marine smell was one of  the complimentary samples which I received. I use it twice a week as an exfoliating scrub and boy! did it really scrub my skin.
The granules though looks fine and small are too rough for my likes and it left my skin feeling slightly red, raw and tight. Definitely not for those with sensitive skin.

My skin did feel smoother but being so abrasive, I shudders to think about the long term side effects it would have on my face.
After each treatment, there is an immediate need to salvage my dry skin with a moisturising mask too.
I think I would just leave this scrub to be used on the body from now on.

Scoring a 3.5 at Makeupalley, only 47% users will opt to buy it again though most of them baulk at the prices. Perhaps this scrub may just works for you but its definitely not for me. Thats for sure.
Am I glad that I did not get this in the fiull retail size.

Key Ingredients
Sea Mineral Complex™, Carrageenan, Allantoin, Sea Fennel , Sea Lettuce, Wakame, Provitamin B, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Polyethylene Beads

Review on Iope Repair BB Cream

Its time for me to review yet another BB cream. Its been some time since I last review a BB cream as I have been using this faithfully for the past 3 to 4 months.

Laneige in Korea was pretty generous when their promoters gave me four complimentary 10ml tubes after I bought 2 boxes of their hydrating sheet masks. ( not the same range as Singapore ).
I was pleasantly surprised as one 10ml tube can last for quite a while. I have given 2 tubes to both my sister and my mum.

Before I received this freebie, I have never heard of Iope. A good friend of mine shared with me that Iope belong to the same company as Laniege. You can read more about Iope here as I do not understand Korean. Iope is from Amore Pacific.

Amore Pacific, a cosmetics and skin care giant in Korea manufactures Laneige, Sulwhasoo, Hera, Mamonde, Iope and some other Korean brands.
The first ingredient on Amore Pacific products is usually ginseng or another key ingredient (such as bamboo sap) from the line. And according to Joseibi, most of the Amore Pacific products don’t contain sulfates, phthalates, petrochemicals, etc.

Containing SPF20 and PA+, it also boasts of ingredients like Madecassoside, Black Bean and Jujube extracts. Madecassoside is a skin healing agent with anti-aging properties (source)

Wow. I am indeed impressed and is filled with much anticipation of using the Iope Repair BB cream.
The illustration on the tube gives me a white, pure and simplicity feeling. Its also easy to use - just twist the tube and squeeze out the contents. It flowed out easily. The texture is inbetween creamy and liquid. Fragrance is nice and soothing with a slight whiff of being minty.

The colour tone is pretty light and is most suitable for fair-skinned ladies. It blends into my skin seamlessly, leaving no trace on my face. It made my skin looks fairer with a luminous glow and recently a stranger near my workplace tried to make friends with me, thinking that I am a Japanese or Korean intern student. The power of Iope on my face! Heh!

It claims to have redness control formula however I do not feel that its working that great. It did conceal some of the broken capillaries on my nose but its not that fantastic. My sensitive skin still have some redness after using this BB cream so I would say the redness control is pretty weak.

Coverage is not alot and only works to conceal on very light blemishes. Oil control is not bad. After 6 hours, the wings of my nose did shine but dabbing on it with a tissue paper is still optional.

When I tried to use my compact powder on top of this BB cream, it was quite a disaster as I looked too fair and the different tones on my neck and face was just too obvious.

In summary, I would think Iope Repair BB Cream is more for those with pretty good skin.

Review on H20+ Face Oasis Cleansing Water

Product Description
An ultra-foaming, oil-free liquid infused with hydrating marine algae to break down and float away make-up and dulling impurities while softening skin

Sea Mineral Complex combines high-performance humectants and hydrating marine algae to protect skin's surface moisture balance while cleansing. Vitamins help maintain elasticity and suppleness.

Recommended for dry and combination skin, I picked this up from the Isetan sale. A new brand which I am trying out. I am attracted to cleansing water as a make-up remover and usually steer away from oil cleansing make-up remover. And its oil-free! Filled with anticipation, I thought this would be a good one for me but it simply made my skin feels tight after every use. I am actually quite disappointed.

I started off with some initial teething problems in using this.

After being used to using cotton pads with Avene Micellar lotion cleanser to cleanse off my make-up, I was quite clumsy in using this without any cotton pads. As per instruction on the bottle. I am supposed to pump it onto my dry hands, add water and massage into a milky lather. But it was too messy for me to like it. The pump spurts out the contents but its so watery so how can I kept it within my palms?
I do not know how others manage to do it with grace but I felt like a fool in trying to cleanse my face with lesser contents than I got it out from the pump because most of the watery contents slipped through my fingers. Such waste.
I finally gave up after a few days and got my trusty cotton pads to the rescue.

I use it according to the way I like it. Just pump out the contents to the cotton pad and cleanse my face. How simple, convenient and neat way to cleanse my skin. I do not have heavy make-up most of the time, just the normal foundation or BB cream and I thought this cleansing water does its job well.
Other than the make-up, the surface dirt on my face came off on the cotton pad as well.

It has a slight marine fragrance which is nice and although I love the fact that its oil-free, it seems to strip moisture away from the face, each time I used it.
After the cleansing with the cotton pads, my skin starts to feel abit tight and right after I followed up with my regular cleanser, my skin feels so taut and tight that I need an immediate hydrating mask to soothe it.
At first, I thought the culprit could be due to my cleanser but when I switched back to Avene, I have no such problems at all so I have deduced it to be this cleansing water.
I really wanted to like this product because its oil-free and its cleansing water but the loss of moisture just disappoints me greatly

You can further check out Makeupalley with a score of 3.5.

Review on Etude House Essence Mask - Hyaluronic Acid

Product Description
Essence mask for skin soothing with hyaluronic acid and lily extracts

After using 3 sheets over the past 3 days, here's my verdict.
Actually I like anything that is associated with hyaluronic acid or whatever hydrating claims on a product as I strongly believe that skin needs to be well-hydrated.

However, I only bought 3 sheets from Etude House because I have never use their masks before and did not want to risk any allergies or breakouts like what I experienced with The Face Shop. Sheet masks from The Face Shop just gave me breakouts and that is a no-no.

The cut-out area is just nice and fits my face perfectly. I did not quite like the fragrance which I cannot really explain. Immediate after effects of each treatment leave my skin moist and gives it much relief.

As with the past few Etude House facial sheet masks I have tried before, alcohol is one of the ingredients which could be the explanation why it dries up partially within 30minutes though the recommended time is 15 to 20minutes. But thank goodness there is not much of the alcohol smell unlike Kose Lotion Mask.

Review on Dermalogica Chroma White Extreme C

Product Description
Dermalogica Extreme C is a unique powder-to-emulsion treatment which delivers a high concentration of Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP) combined with brightening agents and exfoliants to optimise skin clarity. Glides gently over skin or can be blended with your presribed Dermalogica Moisturiser. Contains no artifical colour and fragrance.

Key Ingredients
Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP) : a non acidic stable form of Vitamin C helps inhibit melanin formation.
Antioxidant Camellia Sinensis (White Tea) Extract : accelerates skin brightening and strengthens skin's defences against future dicolouration on a cellular level.
Zinc Glycinate : stimulates formation of an antioxidant protein that binds Copper, thereby inhibitng Tyrosinase.
Niacinamide and Glucosamine : prevent transfer of melanosomes to keratinocytes.
Glucosamine, Algae Extract, Yeast Extract and Lactobacillus/Pumpkin Fruit Ferment : exfoliate surface cells to smooth, enhance skin tone and eliminate dark spots.

Containing Vitamin C to brighten, lighten and tone the skin, white tea to fight free-radical damage and sodium hyaluronate to bind moisture to the skin, this product seems to be on its way to making a big difference to the skin.

A little goes a long way as a pea-sized amount of powder is recommended to be used with the moistsuriser. It can also be used as a spot treatment but so far, I only used it to mix in with Dermalogica Active Moist.

After the mix-in, the texture looks almost like "mochi", sticky paste but its actually not that sticky when applied to the face. It does not affect the texture of Active Moist if you use the correct amount in ratio with respect to the moisturiser. It spreads easily and gets absorbed into the skin easily without any gritty feel of the powder.

In combination with the Estee Lauder Cyber White Extra Brightening Moisture Cream which I was using as a night cream, someone whom I have not seen for the past 2 months have recently commented that I looked fairer.

If you have normal skin, adding this Extreme C upped the benefits of Active Moist, since you can have both the hydrating and whitening properties in your moisturiser.

Ingredients :
Water (Aqua), Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Propylene Glycol, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, C9-15 Fluoroalcohol Phosphate, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Glycerin, Urea, Saccharide Hydrolysate, Magnesium Aspartate, Glycine, Alanine, Creatine, Lactobacillus/Pumpkin Fruit Ferment Filtrate, Niacinamide, Zinc Glycinate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Glucosamine HCI, Algae Extract, Yeast Extract, Saccharide Isomerate, Phospholipids, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate, Sorbic Acid.

Toni & Guy Frizz Smoothing Curl Shampoo and Conditioner

Smoothing Curl Shampoo
This rich shampoo helps tame frizz for smoother curls. It will give your naturally curly hair or style-curled hair a glossy sheen.

Smooth Curl Conditioner
Detangles and rehydrates to tame frizz for smoother curls. It will give your curly or style-curled hair a glossier sheen.

I picked up this travel size set which includes a leave-in conditioner for RM$24.90 in Watsons when I was in Johor Bahru for a day of shopping and dining session.
The fragrance is not one which most people will like. In fact, I hated it very much when I first used it but I was persistent in finishing it, to check out the result.

For some reason, or perhaps its the bottle material finishing, I tend to drop both the shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom when my hands are wet. Both bottles tend to get pretty slippery when its wet.
And because the red colour is more attractive and eye-catching, I tend to reach for the red bottle first but only to find out that its the conditioner. That takes some adjusting but now for convenience sake, I do a quick reading on the bottle before I used it.

The shampoo is a clear, transparent sticky liquid which lathers to some slight foam on the hair. The conditioner is a white, creamy cream that works to detangle the hair. If I used too little amount, I do not feel any detangling effect but if I do use just the correct amount, it made the hair smooth and my fingers are able to run through the wet hair effortlessly.

My hair does seems to look just abit better although some frizziness are still apparent. The curls looks more defined yet not untidy and all over the place.

Review on Etude House Essence Mask - Vitamin C

Product Description
Essence mask for skin vitalizing with Vitamin C and Lemon extract

I bought 3 sheets of this mask when I was in Taiwan and only get to use it this week.
The cut-out area of this mask fits my face shape nicely however due to a blocked nose this week, I am unable to comment on its fragrance.

As I have just fallen sick recently, I decided to use this Vitamin C mask to bring some radiance back to my dull skin.
The recommended time to remove the mask is 15 to 20mins but I had it layered on my face for 30mins before it dries up totally. Face feels hydrated and left an immediate slight glow to the skin.

After using 3 sheets of this Vitamin C mask over the past 3 days, I do notice that my skin looks rosy and radiant. It also provides some moisture to my parched skin.

Alcohol is again on this mask though compared to its pomegranate mask, the alcohol ingredient falls on the 2nd line. With all the other korea facial sheet masks, the ingredients are usually in Korean language hence I am unable to confirm if alcohol is also one of their ingredients.
I really hope that someone can tell me if Beauty Credit masks contain alcohol because I am a big fan of their masks.

Review on Etude House Pomegranate Sheet Mask

Review for Etude House Pomegranate Sheet Mask
Product Description
Essence mask contains pomegranate additives that nourish for a healthy complexion
Abundantly supplies moisture to skin

I bought 3 sheets of of the Etude House Pomegranate Sheet Mask when I was in Taiwan and this is my first foray into using Etude House facial sheet masks. I first started out with their BB cream with positive result so I bought their items when I was in Taiwan and Korea last year.

I did not really compare the prices between Taiwan and Singapore but since the products fit into my budget, I bought a few products to try it out.

For their relatively affordable pricing on their masks, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their sheet mask. Its thick and not sheer and thin.

Even though the Etude House Pomegranate Sheet Mask was not heavily soaked to the point of dripping wetness (20g sheet mask), its coated with enough essence to envelop my face with the moisture. Comfortable.

The pomegranate fragrance is bearable and the size of the mask also fits my face shape pretty well.

Pomegranate is known to have high levels of antioxidants to prevent and delay aging. Check out Leon's tips for a Pomegranate DIY facial mask.

Since this mask did not provide any instantaneous results after 3 sheet masks and it also contains alcohol, I would not be getting this again.
